RS2 Beta updated

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

Player routefinding has been greatly improved.
If you click to attack a monster your player will get to it much more easily instead of walking into fences and furniture.
A little flag will apear on the minimap when you click to go somewhere so that you can tell your character is moving to where you clicked.

Most of the npcs in the game no longer block movement.

We have added the shilo village quest.

We have made some changes and improvements to the trawler game.
Working as team now works better on the Runescape trawler game, fixing the nets, bailing and plugging leaks all now help everyone on the trawler.

We have changed around which areas in the wilderness are now multicombat – multicombat now mostly affects areas in the east of the wilderness rather than the west.

The pickaxes are now wieldable and can be used as weapons.

You can now use a tinderbox on logs in your inventory and you will automatically drop them and light a fire.

Spears have now been improved to be a good all around melee weapon which is useful for those wishing to train using the controlled combat style.

Maces now have a small prayer bonus, making them more useful for people who want to specialize as a cleric.

RS2 Music player and fixes

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

Music player

Runescape 2 now has a music player in addtion to the default music for each area.
In the bottom right corner of the game screen select the musical note to use the music interface.
As you go into new areas in Runescape you will unlock the pieces of music being played there.
Click on them in the music interface and you can play each tune whenever you like, so long as you have unlocked it.
Click the auto button to go back to playing the default music for each area you walk into.

Anti FireBreath potion

This is a new potion for use when fighting dragons. It requires level 69 herblaw, a blue dragon scale and a Cadantine herb.
Using a combination of the anti dragon breath shield, the protection from melee prayer and this potion means you will not be taking any damage from dragons (except the king black dragon)

Other features added include:

When you gain a level there is now a visible animation so other players can see you just got a level.

Various of the inventory graphics have been improved, most notably the worn versions of the halloween mask and the capes.

Mithril seeds can now be planted to grow flowers which you can pick, and give as presents. The flowers are random colours, some colours are rarer than others.

Fremennik Isles

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

Those brave warriors who have already completed the Fremennik Trials have a challenging new quest to get their teeth into.

The Fremennik Isles quest introduces a new area larger than Falador to enjoy and explore, featuring two new villages, new mines to plunder, armour to make, trees to chop, yaks to skin and a huge smelly rabble of trolls to confront.

The islands of Jatizso & Neitiznot were founded by two quarreling Fremennik brothers who left the land of their father to prove themselves. Instead of finding two isolated lands to rule without worrying about each other, they unwittingly set up as neighbours, and their feud continues to this day. However, a new foe has threatened their silly sibling squabbling. Trolls, more trolls and yet more trolls – led by the imposing Ice Troll King – lurk nearby. Each village is only a few bridges away from troll-ish destruction.

Normally, you’d expect two strong and noble Fremennik clans to unite together and defeat the yak-eating, bone-crunching trolls, but the years of petty name-calling and abuse have meant that the brothers fear each other more than the trolls that threaten to destroy them. Are you prepared to step into this quagmire of resentment to deal with the real threat?

Fremennik warriors brave and wise enough to accept the challenge will need to be skilled with their hands, using knife and axe as well as sword. You’ll be killing yaks, building bridges, collecting taxes, fashioning smelly armour, donning disguises to spy on important meetings and dodging rocks before taking on the might of the Ice Troll King and his horde.

Barbarian Assault

Down in the murky Barbarian Assault caverns, change is in the air. The barbarians have installed a new dispenser for Collectors to use. It converts eggs from one type to another: green eggs to red eggs, red and blue eggs to green eggs. Only Collectors of levels 2 or above may make use of this feature. The dispenser is not perfect, and eggs have a high chance of being destroyed. Higher-level Collectors have a far better chance of the eggs surviving the transformation process; this is to give more of a reason for levelling up the Collector role.

The barbarians have also increased the supplies available to Attackers. Their dispenser now gives runes and arrows in multiples of 50 rather than 15, and its stock now includes death runes. Although this would normally make Ancient Magicks available in the area, the Barbarians strongly prefer players not to use any such spells.

The egg launcher’s interface now lists how many eggs of each type it contains.

The cavern used for Wave 10 has been slightly modified to stop penance runners getting stuck.

In other news…

Servants in player-owned houses are now subject to increased security measures. In particular, they will now require you to enter your Bank PIN when you ask them to withdraw items from the bank, unless you’ve already entered it since you logged in.

Ava’s Attractor and Accumulator will no longer work on non-members’ worlds.

Rings of recoil and rings of forging have a handy new feature. If you right-click on them via the Worn Items interface and choose the “Operate” option, they will tell you how many more charges they’ve got.

Pirate’s Treasure

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Beginners' Guide, Runescape Quests

Start: Talk to Redbeard Frank, located in Port Sarim, about treasure.
Skills: The ability to kill a level 4 Gardener.
Quests: None!
What You Need: At least 90gp, a bottle of Karamja Rum, White Apron, Chest Key, and a Spade.

Scroll down to the end of the guide to find a ‘Fast Quest Walkthrough’.

——————————————————————————–

Getting Started

First, talk to Redbeard Frank about any treasure he may know about. Usually he can be found near the Rusty Anchor Bar in Port Sarim, and he says that he will tell you about treasure if you get him some Karamja Rum. So, travel along the walkway and talk to either of the 3 sailors near the boat. When they ask if you want to take a trip to Karamja for 30gp, say yes.

Getting the Rum

Once on Karamja, follow the dirt road until you reach the bar owned by Zambo. Speak with him and buy some Karamja Rum for 30gp. Now, you need to smuggle the Rum off of the island because the Customs Officer will not allow you to bring it to the mainland.

Head back down the road and talk to Luthas, the banana plantation owner about a job. He says that he will pay you 30gp for each crate of bananas you fill up. Pick about 10 bananas from the trees behind his house, and then walk up to the crate on the other side of the building. Now use the Karamja Rum with the crate to store it, and then pack the crate with bananas.

Talk to Luthas again to collect 30gp, and then leave the island by speaking to the Customs Officer and letting her check you for anything you shouldn’t have with you. Once you’re off of the island, go to Wydin’s Grocery Store and try to get into the back room. Ask him for a job, and he says that you need a White Apron to work for him. You can find one hanging up on a hook behind the counter of the Fishing Shop (next door to the Grocery Store). Go into the back room and search the crate in the middle of the floor for the Rum.

The Pirate’s Treasure

Bring the Rum back to Redbeard Frank, who gives you a Chest Key. He says that there’s a chest upstairs in the Blue Moon Inn, so head to Varrock. Upstairs in the pub is a chest, and after unlocking it with the key you should find a Pirate Message that reads “Visit the city of the White Knights, in the park Saradomin points to the X which marks the spot.” It looks like we’re going to Falador.

You’re going to need a Spade to dig up the buried treasure, and you can find one in the small house just east of the Furnace in Falador. In the garden you will see a statue of Saradomin pointing west. Right in front of him is a flower bed that crisscrosses like an X, so walk towards the center of it, right-click on the ground and select the “dig” option. Before you can dig the treasure up however, you’ll be attacked by a level 4 Gardener. After killing him, dig the treasure up to complete the quest!

Rewards

Treasure: A Cut Emerald, Gold Ring and 450gp.
2 Quest Points

Windows downloadable client

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

A new, localised version of the Windows downloadable client is available.

The Windows downloadable client is a lightweight application designed specifically for RuneScape. It uses less memory and desktop screen space than a conventional browser, and is therefore ideal for low-end machines. The latest version includes the following enhancements:

  • Language Aware – will choose the correct language region based on your computer’s settings
  • Better compatibility with low-end machines
  • Features a smart new icon

You can find a link to the Windows downloadable client in the Downloads & Wallpapers section of the RuneScape website.

The Fremennik Trials

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

The council would like to inform our citizens that our recent restoration work on the footpath leading to the Barbarian town of Rellekka, North-west of Sinclair Mansion, has now been completed.
Those traders and adventurers who have been seeking access to this (slightly backwards) region of RuneScape may now do so using the provided footbridge.
The council would also like to make it’s citizens aware that this large barbarian town has its own laws and customs, and those seeking fortune in these strange lands may be required to first prove their worth in The Fremennik Trials.

Extra Clues and Clue Rewards
We have introduced more clues into the mix of random clues. Those who know most of the answers will now have new challenges.
Due to the bigger variety of clues, we have also added some new treasure trail rewards for people to find.

Happy treasure hunting!

The Flamtaer Hammer

We have introduced a new hammer into the game which should help you with your temple building in Mort’ton.
This can be bought from Razmire for 10,000 coins.
You’ll need slightly less people to build your temples if you have the hammer. You will still need a team, and that team can still be smaller if you have a higher crafting level, but the numbers of people you need at lower levels will be less.

This we hope will address problems we may have in the future, when the update isn’t so new and less people will be in the area because they are trying out other new updates.
We have also changed the rewards you get from the chests in this area.
Amongst other things there has been a small increase in the chance of getting cloth.

Music Looping

We now have an extra button on the music interface. Click the loop button, and the tune you are listening to will start again when it ends.

Potion Emptying

Potions now have a right click “empty” option on them, so if you need the vials you don’t have to spend a long time drinking potions to empty them.

Horror From The Deep

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

The Lighthouse protecting unwary ships from Kandarin’s hazardous North-western coastline has recently ceased to function, and the Council have become very concerned about the potential hazard to shipping that may result from this.
The Council would therefore like any adventurers passing by the area to investigate the lighthouse and discover what has happened to the lighthouse keeper Jossik.
Local rumours of a mysterious Horror From The Deep can probably be ignored, as The Council would like to assure its citizens that there is no such thing as sea monsters.

Various tweaks to the game

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

Todays update is just a small one to make a few minor tweaks to the game. Some of the more noticeable changes are:

The stone border around the edge of the game window is now narrower. This is to make the game fit better for people running at 800×600. The actual 3d view area is still the same size however. There is just less wasted space now.
The chat scroll is now slightly brighter, to make chat easier to read.
When you click to use an item, it now has a white outline to show that it is selected.
Fixed several cases where using 2 objects together only worked one way around. (the order objects were clicked in made difference)
Fixed a bug which meant the Iban-staff could be wielded at level 49, despite stating a requirement of 50.
Fixed a couple of digsite bugs where it sometimes didn’t recognise you had the required items.
Fixed a bug with the treasure trail puzzle-box where it occasionally didn’t recognise you had completed it.
Lots of other minor changes and fixes.

Runescape Bank Notes!

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

As you know we originally planned to add bank-to-bank trading to RS2, but we decided to change it because we didn’t want to cause a huge bank overcrowding problem. Just imagine all the players from world-1 varrock market, all crammed into one little bank, so they can bank-trade and you’ll see the problem!
Today we launched a new improved ‘bank note’ system instead. Which still takes all the tediousness out of using certs and doesn’t cause horrible crowding problems.

In RuneScape 2 when you withdraw items you can specify if you want them as an item or as a note, and it’s a simple as that. So for example you can convert all the coal in your bank into ‘coal notes’ in one go, as you withdraw it! And when you put them back in your bank or sell them to a shop they automatically become items again. It’s really very quick and easy to use

We’ve called them ‘notes’ instead of ‘certs’ because they aren’t quite the same. The main difference is 1 note = 1 item (not 5). So for example: 1 coal note = 1 coal. This is so you aren’t restricted to only trading in multiples of 5.

Also it is now possible to get notes for ALL tradeable non-stacking items, so for example you can get ‘potion notes’ and ‘log notes’ also.

RS2 bugfixes

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

Well we said we were going to be fixing more bugs in RuneScape2, so here is the second batch.
Fixed: A bug which allowed you to drop cats out of your bank account duplicating the cat.
Fixed: Various robes making the chests of female characters go invisible
Fixed: Water vials dropped by chaos druids vanishing when picked up
Fixed: Various objects such as bones were infinitely useable while in your bank account
Fixed: Achetties appeared to have a beard when you talked to her
Fixed: You could make cannonballs without a cannonball mould
Fixed: You could not range over various tables
Fixed: Casting the bind spell on players did not give a skull
Fixed: Fighting with a staff always gave you attack xp whatever combat mode you were in
Fixed: You could not pray at the dolmen in the druids stone circle
Fixed: Gertrude’s cat quest was not giving quest points
Fixed: Super human strength incorrectly described as giving a boost to defence
Fixed: Karamja fishing spots were giving sharks instead of tuna and swordfish
Fixed: Scorpions and poison scorpions both had the same name
Also by popular demand we have added some flax to Taverley so people can try out ranging and fletching properly.

As we said yesterday, thankyou to the many players who have been giving us constructive feedback – you can expect continued fixes and changes.
