draynor village

Posted by: cool  //  Category: Beginners' Guide, FunOrb, Runescape Guide

There are several reasons to go to Draynor Village. Firstly, it’s the best woodcutting destination in all of Asgarnia and Misthalin. Secondly, it’s a common city in quests, and also the only place where free players can obtain dyes.

Dyes for Capes and other Applications
If you want to dye your cape or get some dyes for a quest, visit Aggie the Witch. She will make you dyes with different ingredients:

Yellow dye: Two Onions and 5gp.
Red dye: Three Redberries and 5gp.
Blue dye: Two Woad leaves and 5gp.
Green dye: Mix yellow dye with blue
Orange dye: Mix yellow dye with red
Purple dye: Mix red dye with blue
To dye a cape, use your bottle of dye on a cape of any color. You can get capes by killing the Highwaymen who wander on the path going from Lumbridge to Port Sarim, or buy them in the Champions’ Guild, or Varrock clothes store.

Woodcutting
Draynor Village is commonly referred to as the best woodcutting spot in F2P. South-west of the bank there are a bunch of Willow Trees which are great for burning, or collecting in your bank.

Fishing Spots
This is pretty much the only place for level one fishers, and I would recommend training here until about level 25. The reason being is that it’s safe, there is a bank nearby, and there are plenty of fishing spots.

Wizards’ Tower
The Wizards’ Tower is a good spot to train magic, with a lesser demon in a cage on the top floor. Within the tower, members can buy Splitbark armour.

The Jail
The jail is a great low-level combat training area. Here, you can three-item, and continue training on the jail guards until you die, then run back from Lumbridge and continue on, without losing anything.

The Sewers
The sewers are used as part of the Desert Treasure quest. There are many zombies down here to train on, as well as an anvil for smithers to use. The dungeon has 2 entrances, one near Diango’s house and the other near the Jail.

Special Attractions
Real Estate Agent
The Real Estate Agent has found his new home in Varrock; between the Church and the Palace. This agent sells blocks of land, can re-decorate your house, or move it’s location – for a fee of course. He also provides you with a useful book detailing land and construction types.
Mines
South-east Varrock mine – Here are some of the best places to mine. There are many beginners here as there are some tin, copper, and iron. It is one of the best places as it is so close to the east bank in Varrock.

South-west Varrock mine – This is a good place to mine clay, silver, iron, and tin. This is also a prime mining spot because of its nice location to the west Varrock bank.

Woodcutting
Varrock is a prime location to train your Woodcutting skills. Once you are level 60 you can now cut yew. Just north of Varrock palace are three yew trees. It is nice because you are only a short distance from a bank, or the central market to sell them for a nice sum of money. For more on the prices see the Market Price Guide.

Marketplace
This is the biggest and best market area in nearly all of RuneScape. Located right in the centre of Varrock, and around the west bank, you can sell anything you need to at anytime. Here, you can buy or sell anything, at almost anytime of the day or night. Most of your main items are sold in the centre. Then, your rune items are sold just to the east of the west bank and west of Zaff’s Staff Shop. Therefore your rare items are sold to the north of the bank. For more on the prices see the Market Price Guide.

Apothecary
The Apothecary can do various tasks. He can make you a 4-dose strength potion, if you give him a limpwurt root, a red spider egg, and 5gp. Also, you can receive a “potion” from him that is used in the Romeo and Juliet quest. Finally, the Apothecary will give you 325 Herblore experience when you use the “diary” (From the Shades of Mort’ton quest), on him.

Varrock Palace
The castle consists of three floors and a nice training spot in front.

Front of Castle – Here you will find about five guards. This is a prime place for free players to train combat stats. It is also a great area for members to get their thieving up, as there usually aren’t very many people here. It is also a prime place to train for medium level treasure trails.
East side of Castle – Queen Ellamaria has set up her garden for King Roald, but needs your Farming and diplomacy skills in obtaining the seeds and statues for her in Garden of Tranquility quest. Once you finish the quest, you can pick White Tree Fruit from her garden.
First Floor – On the first floor you will find many important people for your quests. Sir Prysin is in the room to the south-west. King Roald is in the room located in the south-east room in the castle. A Monk of Zamorak is trapped in a cage behind the stairs near the entrance to the palace.
Second Floor – When you walk into the north-western room you will find another spawn of guards, here 3-4 spawn. This is another good place to train your combat stats, and to thieve and range for clue scrolls on member servers. To the south-west you will find a combat training area. Also in the northern room you will find a Saradomin altar for recharging prayer.
Third Floor – Captain Rovin is in the room on the north-western side. There is more up here, full of supplies, but unfortunately nobody can reach them.

Cooks’ Guild
The Cooks’ Guild is located west of Varrock and requires level 32 cooking to enter. This guild hosts many spawns for cooking related items including pie plates, grapes, cake tins, pots and jugs. It also has a windmill inside it for people wishing to make flour. There is a sink, several ranges and even a dairy churn located inside to serve nearly all your cooking needs. There also is Romily Weaklax in the Cooks’ Guild who will sell you a pie book to teach you how to make different types of pies and will buy low level pies from you.

Champions’ Guild
The Champions’ Guild is the only combat oriented guild for free players to get into. Free players can buy several rune items out of a shop in the guild, and members when they get challenge scrolls as drops from NPC’s can go into the basement and fight the champion whose challenge scroll the player holds.

Lumberyard & Saw Mill
The Lumberyard and Saw Mill is found just north-east of Varrock, by the pub near the wilderness. The Lumberyard is used in Gertrude’s Cat quest. Here you will find Gertrude’s cat, to take home to her kittens. The Saw Mill, just below the Lumberyard, is used in the Construction skill. The Sawmill operator also sells saws, cloth and nails. He will also turn logs into planks for a certain price per log.

Canoes
Canoes are a new transportation style for members. One can canoe from Lumbridge all the way up the Lum river to Edgeville. The stop by Varrock is next to the Champions’ Guild. Check out the Getting Around guide to learn more about how to use canoes and where you can land.

Rat Pits
The rat pits are a mini-game for members who wish to train their cat into 2 special stages – Wiley and Lazy. Check out the Pet Care Guide on how to unlock these 2 stages of cat. Members can also pit their cats against each other in a game of rat catching. Whoever kills the most rats wins.

Dungeons
There are a few dungeons in Varrock. The main dungeon players talk about is the Varrock Sewers. This dungeon is large and has training places for nearly any level of player and has spots for different combat types too. The sewers also have an agility connector to the nearby Edgeville Dungeon.

Another dungeon around Varrock is the Phoenix Gang Hideout. This small dungeon has a few thieves to attack, but not much else. The final dungeon around Varrock is the dungeon under the Digsite. This dungeon appears to be a temple devoted to Zaros though not much is known about it currently. The final dungeon near Varrock is to the far north-east. It is the dungeon that gives you access across the River Salve into Morytania. This dungeon is commonly referred to as Drezel’s Basement dungeon.

The final dungeon around Varrock currently is the Crevice Cave. This dungeon contains many good training spots for lower levels and some cool graphics to go along with the NPC’s.

player moderator guide

Posted by: cool  //  Category: Beginners' Guide, FunOrb

In any online game where there is player interaction, there will always be people trying to take advantage of others in various ways. Some of these ways may include trying various tactics to steal passwords, taking items from other players in a manner not agreed upon, or being verbally abusive. In June 2004, RuneScape created a way to help take care of some of the problems which were occurring.

——————————————————————————–

2.0 – What is a Player Moderator?
What was the way to help take care of these problems? Player Moderators. A player moderator (usually called PMod or player mod) is a regular player of RuneScape who has the ability to send priority abuse reports and if the abusive player is being particularly bad, the player mod has the ability to mute the player temporarily. Jagex does check all reports that player mods send in to make sure player mods are not abusing their powers.

——————————————————————————–

3.0 – Who is a Player Moderator?
How can you tell a player mod apart from another player? The player mod has a small silver crown next to their name. This crown was put in to make sure that it would be impossible to have a player impersonate a player mod since they would not have the crown. Jagex staff have a similar feature to differentiate themselves from normal players. Jagex staff have a gold crown next to their name. Player mods are not Jagex staff since they have different crowns. The crown appears in private messages and in the normal text area below the main game play screen.

——————————————————————————–

4.0 – Choosing Player Moderators
How Jagex chooses player mods is rather obscure. They say on the official site that they do not pick those who ask customer support to become player mods. The only real hints they give on who they pick, are people who are nice honest players, who report abuse they see, using the report abuse button but not abusing the report abuse button. They also say that posting helpful posts on the official forum might help the powers that be choose you. If you are invited by Jagex to become a player mod, you will have a message in your message center (on RuneScape.com). Jagex will NOT email you or ask you in game to become a player mod.

——————————————————————————–

5.0 – Common Myths About Player Moderators
Player Mods are Jagex staff.
See below to Are Player Mods Jagex Staff?

Player Mods have to be a high level.
No, a player mod can be any level.

Player Mods can ban people.
No, player mods can only mute people temporarily if they feel the abuse they are witnessing is particularly bad.

Player Mods can get a JMod to help you.
No, player mods cannot have a Jagex Mod to come and help you. You will have to contact Jagex through customer support.

——————————————————————————–

6.0 – Frequently Asked Questions
How can I become a player mod?
See the above section on Choosing Player Mods.

What’s that thing/crown next to a persons name?
The crown/thing next to someone’s name is proof that the person is a player mod or Jagex mod

Are player mods Jagex staff?
No, player mods are not Jagex staff. Jagex staff get paid, player mods are normal players volunteering to help report abuse.

Do you get paid for modding?
No, player mods do not get paid for modding.

Why don’t they give you free p2p?
Because they do not.

Can player mods help me get my character back?
No, only customer support can help you in getting lost characters back.

Can player mods make normal people mods?
No, that power lies with Jagex staff only.

varrock museum

Posted by: cool  //  Category: Beginners' Guide, FunOrb

The Varrock Museum, previously the major drop party location for Varrock parties, has been renovated. Free players are now restricted to the ground floor only, while members are able to access the basement, the second and third floors where – on all floors though, players will find information about the story and history of Gielinor (RuneScape).

The Museum offers more experienced adventurers rewards for sharing knowledge with the museum that they have learned during their adventures (members only). The more you help the museum, the more Kudos points you earn.

There are four levels to the building:

The Basement: Natural History; this exhibit educates players about the lesser-known animals in Runescape. You can gain Kudos here by completing quizzes.
The Ground floor: Digsite Cleaning Area; here you can help out the museum (if you have completed the Dig Site quest) by checking rocks for artefacts. Minor pieces you find will be traded for ores or bronze – iron weaponry, major items you can give to the museum for kudos.
First and Second floors: The Historical Time line exhibit; here you can donate information gained from quests for larger amounts of Kudos. This area also tells the entire history of RuneScape when completed.
Currently the maximum amount of Kudos you can earn is 153. At 100 you will be invited to help at a special dig site – speak to the Museum Curator to access this.

——————————————————————————–

2.0 – Activities
2.1 – Natural History Exhibit
In this exhibit in the museum’s basement, you can push buttons on displays to see the creatures within them “come to life”. Speaking to the Natural Historians will activate cut-scenes where they talk to you about each animal. Pets are not allowed to be following you in here.

To earn Kudos here, speak to Orlando Smith, the explorer near the staircase. He’ll talk to you about the museum and then say that if you go around the room and study each plaque next to a case, he will quiz you. Answering each quiz correctly will earn you Kudos. For each case, you usually need to answer three questions correctly; this isn’t hard as many of the answers can be found by speaking to the Natural Historian.

There are several harder quizzes such as the one for the Kalphite Queen that asks for specific words they use to describe her shell. If you are stumped on any of the harder quizzes it’s a good idea to watch the cut-scenes as they will highlight all the points in the quiz. If you fail a question you will be given another one which is usually easier.

2.3 – Digsite Cleaning Area
On the ground floor you can learn about some of the oldest artefacts in the game, often related to the RuneScape Gods. The artefacts give clues to distant times in RuneScape’s past, such as what civilizations lived where, and when.
To earn Kudos, firstly you must have completed the Dig Site quest. Go through the barrier and collect leather gloves, boots, a rock pick and a specimen brush off of the wall. Grab a rock from the pile in the room and use it with a free table; you will then clean it up to see if it is valuable or not.

If the specimen proves to be something such as pottery, anything god related, or coins, speak to one of the NPCs at the tables. They will tell you either to put them into a display or to drop them into a crate if they aren’t worth much (when you do the latter you receive a small reward). Artefacts you collect from the Pyramid Plunder mini-game cannot be given to the museum for Kudos. If it is valuable you will have to go through the gate into the area with the displays and place the artefact in the correct display. Once you have reached 50 Kudos you have completed this room.

Old coin to case 44 for 10 kudos
Pottery to case 22 for 10 kudos
Ancient symbol to 37 for 10 kudos
Old symbol to 36 for 10 kudos
Shiny coin to 45 for 10 kudos
Note: You can also find a Clean Necklace when searching for artefacts. Use the amulet with an archaeologist and he will teach how to enchant ruby necklaces. Afterwards you can enchant ruby necklaces into Digsite Pendants, which can teleport you to the Digsite five times before breaking.

2.4 – History Time line

On the first and second floors you can learn about the history of RuneScape from the very beginning to present. It’s interesting if you want to remember quest story lines or if you enjoy history involving the Gods. Exhibits include statues of creatures in RuneScape, maps, diagrams of RuneScape in the past, and replicas that represent times in quests that you have completed.

In order to complete the entire time line in the museum you need to have completed the quests listed below. However, you can still work on the exhibit, but you can only work on the ones for which you have completed the quest of. Talk to the Historian near the staircase and he will begin adding any information you have to offer to the exhibit.

lunar magic

Posted by: cool  //  Category: Beginners' Guide, FunOrb

A brand new set of spells are available for those with a level of 65 magic or higher, upon completion of the Lunar Diplomacy quest. Lunar spells are a special form of magic crafted by the people of Moonclan island, who have been isolated from civilization for quite some time. Their Astral Altar and Rune Essence mine have aided their quest in refining such magic, culminating in not only new spells, but a new rune as well: the astral rune.

The spells created by the people of Moonclan island are many and varied – from baking a pie, to making a glass without needing a furnace, and even healing and teleporting groups of people.

To swap to Lunar spells from your normal magics, simply head to Moonclan island and pray at the Astral Altar. To change back to regular, pray at the Astral Altar again.

charos charming

Posted by: cool  //  Category: Beginners' Guide, FunOrb

The ring of charos is an interesting and useful item for members. It is obtained upon completion of the Creature Of Fenkenstrain quest. When you wear the ring you are able to enter the werewolf agility course which can be found in the swamps of Morytania, just south-east of Canifis. During the Garden of Tranquility quest, your ring will be invoked with a magic that allows you to manipulate certain non playing characters
2.0 – Charming

As mentioned above, a special power in the ring of charos is revealed after you have completed the Garden of Tranquility quest. This special power allows you to charm many non-playing characters (NPCs) around RuneScape into reducing costs of certain services. You can also charm some of these people into paying you more for your service, or into allowing you to choose a certain item as a reward, rather than receiving it randomly. Below is a full list of NPCs you are able to charm, as well as the result of the charm.

If you lose the ring in either of its two states, just pickpocket Dr. Fenkenstrain in his castle north-west of Canifis to attain it again.

brimhaven dungeon

Posted by: cool  //  Category: Beginners' Guide, FunOrb

The Brimhaven dungeon is located just south-west of Brimhaven, and is packed with heaps of combat training areas. A preview of the monsters found in the dungeon are; Wild dogs, Moss giants, Fire giants, Greater demons, Baby red dragons, Red dragons, Bronze dragons, Iron dragons, and Steel dragons. Saniboch, the poor bloke, stands guard over the entrance, and demands that you pay 875gp to enter. Level 15 Agility, is required to make your way through the dungeon.

The metal dragons (steel, iron, and bronze) are very powerful, each holding the ability to crush you, or even burn you into the ground, and as such, require a great deal of skill and internal fortitude to kill effectively.

To begin with, you need any type of hatchet and at least 935gp. The money is for the boat ride to and from Brimhaven, and to pay Saniboch, while the hatchet is used to chop the vines within the dungeon. The need for armour, weapons, food, and potions, vary from level to level, and are dependant on what NPC you intend to train on.

With the update of the Brimhaven dungeon came the next part in the dragon armour series: Dragon platelegs. Soon after came the next part of dragon armour; the Dragon plateskirt. Metal dragons also drop these.

Dragon Platelegs Dragon Plateskirt Defence Bonus
Stab: +68 Magic: -4
Slash: +68
Crush: +65 Range: +64

——————————————————————————–

2.0 – Location
As said before the new Karamja dungeon can be found south-west of Brimhaven, near a tribal camp.

The most efficient way to arrive at Saniboch, is either to catch the boat from Ardougne to Brimhaven, or use a Glory amulet to teleport to N. Karamja. Tribesmen can poison, so, if you are below level 64, do not forget to bring an anti poison potion, or try very hard to avoid them. Speak to Saniboch, and pay him 875gp (Picture).

4.0 – Tactics
This section describes a tactic for each form of combat: melee, magic and ranged. It delineates what levels you should have, what items you should bring, and how to effectively slaughter the dragon of your choice. Ultimately, it’s better to use an Ectophial to teleport out, as it means one less space, and that you don’t have to swap to your magic window to teleport out in an emergency. If you haven’t done the Ghosts Ahoy quest, or don’t have an Ectophial, just take a set of Ardougne teleport runes, and remove one piece of food or a potion.
4.1 – Melee
Requirements:
Level 55+ Prayer
Level 75+ Attack
Level 80+ Strength
Level 75+ Hit points
Average hit of 20
Anti-dragon shield
Monk robes
Optional: Warrior helm
Alternative: Rune or dragon armour
Dragon longsword, abyssal whip or dragon battleaxe
Holy symbol
Alternative: Amulet of glory
Ring of wealth
God cape, Cape of legends or Obsidian cape
Metal gloves and boots

What to bring:
1,000gp
Woodcut axe
Ectophial
6x Prayer restore potions (4-dose)
Optional: 1x Super attack and strength potion (4-dose)
8x Anti-firebreath potions (4-dose)
9x Lobsters, Swordfish or Sharks

Tactic:
Using melee to fight metal dragons can be quite rewarding if you can defeat them successfully and efficiently. You may end up spending upwards of 500,000gp on items to battle these beasts, but eventually you should receive something worthwhile such as dragon platelegs.

To begin, simply make sure your dragonfire shield is equipped, that you have full prayer points, and that you can teleport out if necessary. Once you’ve checked these three things, make your way to a part of the metal dragons lair and hide there until one appears for you. Prior to attacking, drink a dose of anti-firebreath potion, and turn on protect from melee. Once you’ve done this, go ahead and attack. Make sure that you continue to watch your prayer draining, and replenish it when it goes below 10 points or so. Also watch out for the message that tells you when your anti-firebreath potion has run out
4.2 – Magic
Requirements:
Level 75+ Magic
Anti-dragon shield
Mystic robes, boots and gloves
Alternative: Chaos gauntlets instead of mystic gloves
Elemental battlestaff
Amulet of glory
Ring of wealth
God cape, Cape of legends or Obsidian cape

What to bring:
1,000gp
Woodcut axe
Ectophial
3,000-5,000 chaos runes
12,000-20,000 fire runes
20-50 nature runes
12x Anti-firebreath potions (4-dose)
8x Lobsters, Swordfish or Sharks
Chaos gauntlets (optional)

Tactic:
To begin with, stand in one of the small inset areas that can be found around the border of the cave. You will find that a dragon will not wait for you to get ready, and instead will give you a blast of its firebreath. Therefore, make sure that you’re prepared with your spell auto-cast set. Also, just before attacking, or just after a battle commences, drink a dose of anti-firebreath potion. It is also advisable that you make sure you have the ‘Auto-Retalliate’ option enabled.

If you’re comfortably hidden from the dragons melee range, you should never be hit while the anti-firebreath potion is still in effect. When the time comes that the dragon is hitting you, just drink another dose of your potion.

You should be likely to receive a dragon drop for around every 3,000 bolt spells fired. Sometimes you may not get one, and sometimes you may get more than one; it’s the luck of the draw. You should also receive about 20,000-30,000 magic experience per 1,000 bolt spells fired, however this all depends on your magic level, and how lucky you are. Also, you should end up only having to use about 12 doses of anti-firebreath potion per 1,000 bolt spells cast.

——————————————————————————–

4.3 – Range

Requirements:
Level 70+ Ranged
Full black d’hide and archers helm
Optional: Robin hood hat & ranger boots
Anti-dragon shield
Iron darts or throwing knives
Amulet of glory
Ring of wealth
God cape, Cape of legends or Obsidian cape

What to bring:
1,000gp
Woodcut axe
Ectophial
Telekinetic grab runes
5x Ranged potions (4-dose)
2x Prayer restore potions (4-dose)
8x Anti-firebreath potions (4-dose)
9x Lobsters, Swordfish or Sharks

Tactic:
Set yourself up in a corner of the area where the metal dragon you are fighting cannot attack you with melee. Drink a dose of your ranger potion and anti-firebreath potion, then attack the nearest dragon, without moving from your position.

Upon killing the dragon, use telekinetic grab to collect your spared darts or throwing knives, and any worthwhile rewards that you have space for. It is not advised to venture from your safe spot, or you might find yourself dead.

5.0 – FAQ
Q. How long can you stay?
A: How long you can stay depends on whether or not you use melee, mage or range. With melee, you can usually stay a couple of hours, or about 25-45 dragons. With magic, around 4,000 chaos runes should see you going for at least 4 hours.

Q. Can you make the money you spent on supplies back?
A: Generally, yes, although it really depends how lucky you are. There is definitely the potential to make far greater amounts of money off the metal dragon’s drops. It may not seem like you’re making money at first, but if you stay there for a few days you might. It can take anywhere from 100-400 dragons to be able to get a dragon drop, but it more than often is worth it for the experience, even if you don’t make much profit off a dragon drop.
