The Restless Ghost

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Holiday Guides, Runescape Quests

Start: Begin by speaking with Father Aereck in the Lumbridge Church.
Skills: Able to defeat a level 13 Skeleton.
Quests: None!
What You Need: An Amulet of GhostSpeak.

Scroll down to the end of the guide to find a ‘Fast Quest Walkthrough’.

——————————————————————————–

Getting Started

Firstly, talk to Father Aereck and ask him if he has a quest for you. He can be found inside the Lumbridge church, standing around the altar. He says that he needs someone to make the ghost in the Church Graveyard go away. He mentions that his friend Father Urhney may be able to help you.

Leave the church and follow the road north until you reach the General Store, and then head west along the dirt path until it ends. Now head southeast through the swamp, or head south along the ocean until you find a small house. Talk to Father Urhney and tell him that Father Aereck sent you. Say that a ghost is haunting the graveyard, and he gives you an Amulet of GhostSpeak so that you can talk to it.

Helping the Ghost

Go back to the church in Lumbridge and walk into the graveyard behind it. The ghost is inside the small building in the corner of the graveyard, and you may need to open and close the Coffin to get him to appear. With your new amulet on, speak to the ghost, and when he asks if you understood him, tell him that you did. He says that a Warlock has stolen his skull, and that may be why he can’t rest.

Now leave the graveyard and follow the road north until you reach the General Store. Head west along the same dirt path you traveled before, but this time keep to the same direction until you reach a road. Follow it south into the Wizard’s Tower, and climb down the ladder. Walk along the corridor to the door on the east side. You’ll see an altar; search this to find a Skull. A level 13 Skeleton will then jump out at you, but since you already have the skull, just run away!

Visit the ghost back in the Graveyard, and tell him that you’ve found his skull. He needs you to put it in his coffin, and after you do so he will be able to rest.

Quest Complete!

Skills: None!
Quests: None!
What You Need: An Eye of Newt, a Rat’s Tail, an onion, and a piece of burnt meat.

Scroll down to the end of the guide to find a ‘Fast Quest Walkthrough’.

——————————————————————————–

Getting Started

Firstly, visit Hetty the witch in Rimmington and tell her that you’re looking for a quest. She says that she may have something for you to do, and she asks you if you want to get better at the “Dark Arts” (a.k.a. Magic). Say yes, and she tells you that she needs a potion consisting of an Eye of Newt, a Rat’s Tail, an onion, and a burnt piece of meat.

Making the Potion

All of the ingredients needed for Hetty’s potion can be found near Rimmington. You can buy an Eye of Newt from the Magic Emporium in Port Sarim for 3gp. Fresh onions grow in the garden just north of the town. You can find some Rats just south-east of town, which you can kill for meat to later burn on a stove. Kill a small level 1 Rat and pick up their Rat’s Tail, another needed ingredient.

Note: If you’re too high of a cooking level to burn meat, there’s no need to worry! You can simply just re-cook an already-cooked meat to burn it!

After obtaining all of the required ingredients, go back to Hetty and give her all of the items. She mixes a potion in her Cauldron, which you can drink from to complete the quest.

A sq’irk a day

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Holiday Guides

Osman, known for his peaceful, innocent life relaxing in Al Kharid, has of late been miserably staring into an empty glass of sq’irk juice. For years he was able to deal directly with the sorceress to provide his favourite tipple, before their disagreement over prices. Since then, Osman has tried desperately to find out how she grows them, but the secret is so well kept that not even he can find it.
Osman has thus been forced into adopting a more devious (though some might say lazy) approach, and for that he will need your help. Once you work out how to get into the sorceress’s concealed garden, it will be up to you to watch the routes of the patrolling guards and sneak past for the fruity rewards. Different seasons are rumoured to affect each of the gardens, and it can be assumed that more experienced thieves will have access to more bountiful sq’irk trees. Even if helping Osman is not to your taste, the gardens are also home to herb-beds, which could be plundered by those wary enough to avoid any guardians. So head to Al Kharid to help this thirsty gentleman of leisure or to stock up on ingredients - either way, there are profits to be had in this new minigame.

In other news:

Following requests from players, we’ve taken a look at the way the combat system handles your attack style when you’re autocasting spells. People were finding that the system would put them into the defensive mode if they ran out of runes or switched to a different kind of weapon. This isn’t necessarily useful, since some fighters prefer not to get Defence XP.

Instead, the system will now try to remember the last combat mode you were in before you started autocasting spells. If you’re autocasting spells in the mode that doesn’t give Defence XP and you switch weapons or run out of runes, you should find yourself in that combat mode. If you’re autocasting spells in the mode that does give Defence XP, you should instead find yourself in a defensive combat mode.

As with all changes to the combat system, we advise you to take extra care, to make sure things are behaving how you expect them to.

Would you like to see My Arm

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Holiday Guides

Trolls have never been renowned as farmers. But Burntmeat the troll cook has heard a rumour that humans are able to grow goutweed, and he’s keen to give it a try. In the kitchen of the Troll Stronghold, Burntmeat is hoping for a kind adventurer to teach his assistant this skill.
If you’ve done Eadgar’s Ruse and The Feud, come back to the Troll Stronghold and meet My Arm, Burntmeat’s exasperating young assistant. With My Arm by your side, prepare for a memorable voyage to sunny Karamja as you discover exactly how stupid a troll can be! This bizarre quest features jungle villagers, seafarers, dung and trolls aplenty.

If you can survive all that and help My Arm grow his own goutweed, you’ll earn yourself a nice xp reward, plus a little something to help you get more out of the Farming skill.

But watch out for an encounter with the biggest bird ever seen in RuneScape…

A note about the Quest Point Cape:

Now that we’ve just released a new quest, all the players who’d got the new QP cape or hood will find that they’ve no longer got the right to wear these items since they haven’t got all the available quest points. If you were wearing the QP cape or hood when you logged off before the update, the items will try to take themselves off you when you log back in.

If there was not sufficient space in your inventory or bank for the items to appear, you will be able to retrieve them from the Wise Old Man of Draynor Village free of charge. You will be able to wear them again as soon as you have the maximum possible number of quest points.

——————————————————————————–

In other news…

The new Fletching cape is now available from Hickton in Catherby rather than the Ranging Guild. This allows players with level 99 fletching to buy the cape even if they have never gained access to the Guild.

If you have completed Darkness of Hallowvale and One Small Favour, you can now save an extra bankspace by storing the Meiyerditch short-cut key on your keyring.

Players who have completed the Rag and Bone Man quest, but who have not yet found all the bones on the wish-list, will now see a little yellow asterisk (*) on their quest list to remind them that they still have more work to do if they want to earn all the quest points available from the Odd Old Man.

Many people have requested that costumes stored in their houses’ costume rooms should be protected in some way by the Bank PIN system. Although we have not yet made this change, we are working on it, and it should be released in the near future.
In the meantime, we’d like to remind you all that the Bank PIN is NOT a substitute for other forms of account security, and players still need to make sure no-one finds out their passwords. Visit our Knowledge Base to learn about keeping your account secure.

Halloween Event - for ALL players

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Holiday Guides

The time is here once again; the evenings are drawing in, the pumpkins have been carved, and RuneScape is once more filled with seasonal spookiness!

Halloween this year brings problems for Diango in his workshop in the form of enough poltergeists to fill a gnomeball stadium. The evil tree that seems to keep eating passers-by in the middle of the room is also cause for some concern.

Rewards to be had for combating this spectral and… err… woody threat include a full Halloween costume and a Jack o’Lantern helmet. It doesn’t matter if you are a member or not, as all of the prizes are available to both members and non-members. For those of you who were not here last year, the ‘Scared’ emote is also back, but try not to get too frightened!

After the event is done, you’ll find that Diango’s new holiday item recovery system will also make getting your bobble hats back for winter a lot simpler. It will also cover the recovery of almost all of the holiday event items that you would have to otherwise go looking all over the place for.

Speak to Diango by his stall in Draynor to start this year’s Halloween event.
Don’t forget to check the Knowledge Base for more information.

Look out ghosts! Evil trees beware! Runescapians know exactly who they are gonna call!

The Halloween event will be available for 2 weeks only. We’ll take it away in the week commencing Monday 13th November. Please make sure you’ve finished collecting your reward items BEFORE this date.

If you’ve got a Bank PIN, you will now be asked to enter it before removing items from your house’s costume room, in much the same way that you enter it before removing items from your RuneScape bank account.
If you haven’t got a Bank PIN and you’d like to set one, visit your local branch of the Bank of RuneScape and speak to the bankers today!
We’d like to remind you all once again that the Bank PIN is NOT a substitute for other forms of account security, and players still need to make sure no-one finds out their passwords. Visit our Knowledge Base to learn about keeping your account secure.

The requirement for equipping Slayer Gloves has been raised from level 17 to level 42 in the Slayer skill. This should make relatively little difference, as you would never have been able to fight a Fever Spider effectively without a Slayer level of 42.

Part of the door of Varrock’s western bank had gone missing. It is now being restored.

Behind the Scenes-Runescape

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Holiday Guides

This month we welcome a few new faces to RuneScape’s “who’s who” list in the form of giant Slayer beasts. These avatars just happen to be the main focus of our new safe, conflict minigame…Soul Wars! We will also be waving goodbye to a few of our old random events, adding a new feature that will let you sort your quests, building price-checking inventory options for your items, and adding a new distraction and diversion (whose bark is far worse than his bite).

Soul Wars

On the deepest, darkest, most mysterious of our backwater islands, an eternal struggle rages, unknown to the residents of RuneScape until now. Structured much like Castle Wars, this will be a “quick to access, tough to master” conflict-based minigame. The avatars of Destruction and Creation vie for control of the Soul Obelisk, an ancient and powerful artefact used to harvest the souls of the weak and unready. Get ready to grab your blade, staff or bow and battle through Slayer creatures, collecting fragments of their souls to feed to the ever-hungry obelisk. Rewards include combat XP while playing the game, Pest Control-style XP rewards and a few new pets for you to lead.

Random event update

Over the last year we’ve been very keen to make changes to RuneScape’s system of random events. After all, no one likes being forced through a long dialogue with a desperate doctor or an over-enthusiastic security guard while they’re surrounded by aggressive monsters.

The most obvious change in the update will be to the rewards. At the end of most random events, you’ll be handed a random event gift box. When you open the box, you’ll get the chance to choose a reward from a selection of items including coins, runes, ore, seeds, charms and perhaps even a genie lamp. If the random event previously offered emotes or costumes, you’ll be able to choose those from the random event gift box’s menu. So whatever kind of reward you want, there should be something in there for you.

We’re also making a major change to the rate at which random events appear, basing it on your skill total and your record of successfully passing random events. So, if you correctly solve every event you encounter, you’ll experience fewer events in the future. On a related topic, the game will remember which random events you get, so it can aim to give you a greater variety of events, rather than always giving you the same random events over and over again.

Some random events will be removed from the game. Poison-gas chests, smoking rocks, broken pickaxes and ents will become things of the past. The Drunken Dwarf will be retired as a random event, but he’ll still be free to roam the world, handing out kebabs to his mateys. You’ll still be able to obtain shade robes, strange fruit and security books; we do not intend to discontinue any existing rewards.

Other improvements include allowing you to have more than one set of costumes, giving value to old frog tokens (so don’t throw them away!), stopping run energy from draining in the maze and even giving the Sandwich Lady her own café!

Price check

Ever found yourself at the bottom of a lonely, dark, depressing dungeon, with only the sound of your Summoning beast to keep you company, when suddenly out of the bleakness come the infamous words ”price check plz”?. Quite often you’ll want to know how much something is worth, even if you are holding back the forces of darkness at the same time. Because of this often-heard request, we have decided to add it as a permanent feature. So you’ll be able to click on a button beneath your worn items to open a new price-check interface, into which you’ll be able to place objects from your inventory (including stacks) to see their trade value.

Quest list interface

This month we will also be adding a new filtering option to the quest list in game. This means that you will be able to filter out all the quests you don’t yet have the level to do, or filter the list so it displays all your completed quests last – to name just a few options.

Evil Tree

Also this month we will be bringing you a new distraction and diversion affectionately known as the Evil Tree. This twice-a-day event will focus on providing an alternative to your Woodcutting, Firemaking and Farming training. During this event, a small, innocent leprechaun will be appearing in a variety of locations, using his magical divining rod to try to discover the whereabouts of an exciting new species of plant. He knows that the plant grows into a tree at an alarmingly fast rate, and that budding farmers will be able to use their skills to coax it out even faster; but Farming’s not the only skill you will be using…since this tree is EVIL!

Well, perhaps for us that twist wasn’t so surprising (the name kind of gives it away) but for anyone who hasn’t read this it will be quite a shock to see the innocent, naive sapling turn into a menacing and malevolent fiend! Prepare to grab your tinderboxes and axes (the leprechaun has spares), and go toe-to-branch with this new challenge. Evil trees will come with similar level requirements to their less evil counterparts, and will range from normal, simple trees all the way up to elder trees…evil elder trees, of course. Rewards include generous XP in the aforementioned skills, and access to some unique services to complement your Woodcutting training.

Future Content
Mobilising Armies

Work continues on this tactical minigame, and we’ve been busily adding new features and continuously developing the game engine to support this new content. Recent additions include:

Altering the effect that different races of troops can have on your rewards.
Changing the way in which catapults are loaded.
Improving the way in which the camera moves around the battlefield.
Improving the on-screen information so you know what all of your troops are doing.
Updating the tutorial to be more interactive and straightforward.
Changing one of the scenarios to feature TzHaar.
As we have said before, this minigame is different from anything ever seen before in RuneScape. The more we test and play through the content, the more features we know we need to add to make the game work the way we want it to. This means that we’ve not been able to launch it as early in the year as we had initially hoped, but we will give you more news as soon as it is available.

Runescape Woodcutting Guide

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Holiday Guides, Runescape Money Making Guide

Cutting trees is a simple task, but some trees fall easier than others. Any hatchet will work, but remember that the better the axe, the easier it will be to get wood. Now just click on the tree to chop it down.

If you chop a regular tree you will get 1 stack of logs, while others will give several stacks. If you keep missing the tree and can’t chop it down, just keep trying and eventually you will cut it down. The higher your level, the easier it will be to get logs.

Hatchets

As mentioned before, better hatchets will cut trees quicker than others. There are currently 8 different kinds of hatchets, each requiring a certain woodcutting level to use.

Woodcutting Axes

Iron 1
Steel 6
Black 6
Mithril 21
Adamant 31
Rune 41

Machetes

Machetes are mainly used to chop through the Jungle Brush on Karamja Island. There are no requirements to use these, but the types of brush you can cut will require you to have a specific Woodcutting level (those are included below).

To get these, you can either buy them from Gabooty in Tai Bwo Wannai with Trading Sticks, or you can have them made by Safta Doc if you bring him the materials.

Machetes

Regular None
Opal ¡ 300 Trading Sticks
¡ 3 Opals cut/uncut

Jade ¡ 600 Trading Sticks
¡ 3 Jades cut/uncut
¡ 1 Gout Tuber Plant
Red Topaz ¡ 1200 Trading Sticks
¡ 3 Red Topaz cut/uncut

Bird Nests

Sometimes while chopping a tree, a Bird’s Nest will fall out. Pick it up and search it - you may find something valuable inside! Bird Nests can also be crushed by Members with a Pestle and Mortar and mixed to make a Saradomin’s Brew.

A Rabbit-Foot Necklace can be crafted, and it significantly increases your chances of getting a bird’s nest while woodcutting.

Broken Axes

From time to time, your Axe’s head may fly off, but it’s very easy to fix. Simply pick the axe’s Head up off the ground (pick it up quickly so that it doesn’t disappear), and use it with the Handle to re-attach it.

Other times, it won’t be as easy. An Ent may grab your axe and break it, so that you can no longer use it to chop trees. Just bring it to Bob’s Axe Store in Lumbridge to have him fix it for a price.

——————————————————————————–

Trees

While exploring the land, you will most likely come across different kinds of trees; many of which are more difficult to chop and require more skill than a Regular Tree. Some can be found while traveling along the road, while others can only be found in out-of-the-way places.

Canoes

Canoes are yet another way to get from place to place in RuneScape, and they allow you to travel up and down the River Lum. There are several Canoes you can make, and the better ones can go further than others.

First, head to the Canoe Station of your choice:

Runescape Halloween Event

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Holiday Guides

Like many online role playing games, Runescape celebrates real-world holidays in their fictional, magical world of monsters, magic, and heroes. Halloween is no exception. During the Halloween holiday season, players have a few unique quests and events you can participate in. But you have to hurry—once the ghouls and goblins have completed their trick or treating on Halloween, the quests and many of their rewards are gone for another year.

Maggie the Witch
Maggie the traveling witch starts the main Halloween quests, Swept Away and trick or treating. Maggie is located north of Rimmington, and players will find her with her two oxen, Norman and Babe. However, her oxen are sick, and Maggie has to stay with them to nurse them back to health. This means she can’t complete either her magical potion or go trick or treating! Runescape members, however, can help her complete both tasks and in the process gain some very nice rewards.

The Swept Away Quest
The Swept Away quest involves helping Maggie complete her magic potion by visiting three of her friend and getting her magic broom enchanted. This isn’t as simple as simply visiting the three, of course. Instead, players must solve a puzzle for each witch before she will enchant the broom. The three witches are Hetty of Rimmington, Betty of Port Sarim, and Aggie of Draynor.

The first step is to visit Hetty in Rimmington. Hetty’s enchantment involves rubbing her special ointment on the broom, but Hetty is out of ointment and can’t make more without some newt. She has some in her basement, which she asked the player to get. Down in the basement, players encounter Gus the Ghoul. He was delivering Hetty’s new supplies, but he got the labels all mixed up. One box contains only newts, one contains only toads, and one contains both. Players must figure out which is which so that Hetty can make the ointment.

All three boxes are mislabeled—players must change the label on each one. Fortunately, Gus will be able to tell players if they’ve made a mistake, and since there are only three options, even just guessing will work eventually. Once the boxes are correctly labeled, players receive the broom ointment from Hetty.

Betty, the witch of Port Sarim, sends players to her basement to meet Lottie. Lottie is trying to get Betty’s magic wand, but it’s locked in a treasure chest that’s guarded by a number of creatures. Before the player can get to the chest, they have to put the creatures in the correct cage. There are six animals to rearrange, and Lottie provides players with a slate that shows where each animal is, making it somewhat easier. One thing to remember, though, is that animals can only be moved to an adjacent cage, and a cage can only hold one animal at a time. Once all of the animals are in the correct cage, the player received Betty’s wand, which she then uses to enchant the broom.

The final witch is Aggie of Draynor. She can only enchant the broomstick in her magical place, but that place is currently covered in sand. The player must sweep the sand away from the magical lines so that they form four different triangles. There are several ways of accomplishing this, and trial and error work just as well as any other method. Once the triangles are revealed, players receive the final enchantment and can return to Maggie.

Maggie can then finish up her Goulash. Once it’s done, she offers some to the player, who receives experience towards a skill. Players can eat the Goulash ten times.

Trick or Treat
Maggie also wants players to bring her some candy from the various trick or treat buckets located at specific locations. Completing this quest three times rewards players with the entire Witch outfit (for female characters) or Warlock outfit (for males). (Runescape Halloween Events and holiday items are located here)

There are three places to trick or treat, and they conveniently match up to the towns the three witches live in: Rimmington, Port Sarim, and Draynor. This makes doing Swept Away and Trick or Treat very easy. Each of these towns also features some really neat Halloween decorations, so they’re worth visiting during the event. Players will need six popcorn balls, five pieces of wrapped candy, and four chocolate drops to get all three pieces of the Halloween outfit. Some of the candy drops more frequently than others—players often get chocolate from trick or treating, but wrapped candy seems somewhat rare.

Runescape Rare Holiday Items

Runescape Rare Holiday Items – Party Hats, Santa Hats and Halloween Masks
Runescape rate items or discontinued item are Runescape items that were introduced into the Runescape marketplace for a single day to celebrate a holiday, this is why some have chosen to give them the name of holiday drops. So on what holidays were these rare items dropped? They were dropped all over Runescape on Christmas, Easters, and Halloween in 2001 and 2002, but unfortunately were not dropped in 2003 when Jagex decided that the introduction of these rare items was detrimental to the Runescape economy in light of the fact that people were hording these holiday drops and they were becoming quite expensive items because they were rare. They have now become the most expensive items in Runescape by a long way with prices for these rare items now reaching millions of Runescape gold and no doubt some of the rarer party hats will soon be worth over a billion Runescape gold pieces.
Runescape Party Hats or Phats
Runescape party hats, often referred to as Runescape phats, were introduced into the game in Christmas of 2001. These Runescape party hats were not actually dropped in Runescape themselves rather they were introduced through the form of Runescape party crackers. These party crackers were dropped in Runescape for free and players were able to pick them up and then use them on other players. Then just like with normal party crackers inside there was an item accompanied by a party hat. One player would get the item, which was random, while the other player would get the party hat. Now at the time obtaining the item that the party cracker contained was normally far more valuable but within a matter of weeks these Runescape party hats became exceedingly valuable as people realized that there was obviously a limited number of them available.

So with the dropping of these party crackers and party hats a new market was created, the Runescape rare items market. People began collecting these party hats attempting to collect Runescape party hat sets which are basically where a player had all the different colors of party hats, which includes, blue, white, green, yellow, red and pink (purple). These Runescape party hat sets are now worth well over a billion Runescape gold which and there is a very vibrant market for these items.

Runescape Easter Eggs
The Runescape Easter eggs were dropped in Easter 2002 and unlike the wearable party hats were edible this time healing player quite a considerable amount of damage. Whilst these items are still traded and highly valued they are not as prolifically traded as the wearable Runescape rare items nor are they as sort after.

Runescape Halloween Masks
These Runescape Halloween masks were the second wearable holiday item that was dropped in Runescape. This time the masks were just dropped rather than being contained in another item unlike the party hats were, but like the party hats there were wearable. This time the Runescape market was more aware at just how valuable these halloween masks were going to be in the future and Runescape rare items began collecting them from the outset and many players collected all three Runescape halloween masks, red, blue and green to combine them into Runescape mask sets. These items like the Runescape party hats are exceedingly valuable, though not quite as valuable due to the fact that there were many more Runescape masks dropped and collected than party hats.

Runescape Santa Hats
The Runescape santa hats were the final of the Runescape rare items to be dropped as a holiday item. These santa hats were dropped for Christmas of 2002 and were like the masks in that people were well aware at this stage as to just how valuable these santa hats would become in the future and as such people again began collecting and hording them from the outset. Today these Runescape santa hats are the popularly traded Runescape rare item and of all the rare items available they are in the highest quantity still remaining in the game.

Runescape Rare Items Future
All of theses Runescape rare items are exceedingly valuable and their value is fairly likely to grow considerable higher in the coming months and years. The rates at which the market price for these rare items grows is amazing with most of these items more than tripling in value each year. It has already been mentioned that already a Runescape party hat set is worth well over a billion Runescape gold pieces and I’d imagine that it won’t be long until a single Runescape party hat will be worth over a billion Runescape gold pieces by itself.
