Trade margin increase

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Runescape Community

From today we have doubled (in some cases tripled) the flexibility of the player trade system. All players will notice an increase in the amount they can trade with other players.

This means accounts with fewer than 10 quest points will be able to earn or lose up to 5,000 coins in wealth every 15 minutes from trading, free players will be able to earn a maximum of 10,000 coins every 15 minutes by completing the free quests and members will have access to a maximum of 60,000 coins per 15 minutes if they have 270 quest points. Your trade margin will increase with each quest point after 10 - for example, at 100 quest points you’ll have a margin of 24,038 coins, and at 200 quest points you’ll have a margin of 45,192 coins.

This was added to the game because we wanted to offer our players more flexibility when trading or helping friends out, without increasing the threat of real-world trading.

Mod Mark
Lead Designer - RuneScape

Note: Currently there are only 269 quest points available in the game, so no player will be able to reach the 60,000 coin margin until our next quest update, scheduled for a few weeks’ time. The trade margin does scale up to that, though, so players a few quest points short of 270 will have a trade margin only slightly below it.

Player-Owned House Costume Room

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Runescape Community

Do you love to collect different outfits for your character but have trouble finding room for them all in your bank? Is your local banker buried under a heap of lederhosen and frog masks? Your problems are solved!

From now on, if you have level 42 Construction, you can add a costume room to your house. Chests, wardrobes and cape racks in this room can be used to store many of the ensembles you can acquire around RuneScape, including:

  • Treasure trail reward costumes
  • Random event reward costumes
  • Minigame reward costumes (such as Castle Wars armour)
  • Quest reward costumes (such as Temple Knight armour)
  • Recent holiday event rewards - you will find that the room automatically stores any holiday event reward you are entitled to!
  • Plus, of course, the new Capes of Achievement!

Naturally, bigger, higher quality pieces of furniture in this room can store more stuff.

Please consult the Knowledge Base article for the complete list of storable costumes.

As always, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to fix glitches in the game. This week, among many other minor bugfixes, watch out for the following changes:

  • Higher-level slayers may be pleased to hear that Duradel, the Slayer Master of Shilo Village, has finally restored Nechryael to his list of assignments.
  • Giant rats, bats and bears have had their models and animations upgraded.
  • Ever since the update to the combat interfaces, your attack style would be reset to Accurate mode if you switched weapons to a magic staff. This will no longer happen unless there is no appropriate attack style available on the staff to match your previous mode.

Runescape Monkey Greegree

Posted by: cool  //  Category: Runescape Community

The Runescape Monkey Greegree is a staff that players can make. It is used mainly during the Monkey Madness quest. When you wield one of these magic staffs on Ape Atoll, you will turn into a monkey and thus be safe from the monsters on Ape Atoll. To make one of these magical staffs you need to gather some monkey bones and a Monkey Talisman, and take them to Zooknock. Remember, if you are using the Monkey Greegree for the Monkey Madness quest, your bones need to be from Karamja. Otherwise you can use the bones of the monkeys that live on Ape Atoll.

The Monkey Greegree is used in the third chapter of the Monkey Madness quest. I will go ahead and tell you what to do in this part of the quest.

You will not need food, potions, or teleportation runes for this chapter, but you might want an Ardougne teleport to make it easier on you.

Go to Ape atoll and wield the Monkey Greegree Staff. Go northwest and pass through the gate. Go as far east as you can and talk to Garkor. Then talk to an Elder Gaurd somewhere outside the king’s palace, he will tell you to go to Kruk. Now go as far west as you can go, then south when you reach the shore. Walk up the cliff, up the ladder, along the bridge and down the ladder on the other side. Talk to Kruk, he will take you to King Awowogei. Talk to him; ask for an alliance and he will tell you to rescue a monkey from the Ardougne Zoo. So head on over to Ardougne, to the zoo, wield the Greegree. Speak to the Monkey Minder and he will place you in the cage. Speak to a monkey and take it into your inventory. Now un-equip the Greegree and talk to the Monkey Minder. He will let you out and WALK or RUN to the Grand Tree, do not teleport anywhere, because it will make the monkey leave the inventory. Then of course talk to the King and finish the alliance. Now wield the Greegree, and head on over to Ape Atoll again. Speak to the guard, ask for an alliance with the King, Talk to the king, and ask for an alliance, he will consider it. Exit his chamber.

When you are wielding the Runescape Monkey Greegree, you will loose your spellbook tab. You can be more than one monkey, according to the Monkey Greegree you have. Once you have your quest done, you can kill most of the monkeys and get their bones to make a Monkey Greegree and be able to change into them. There are 7 Monkey Greegrees in all - 2 Zombie Greegrees, 2 Gorilla Greegrees, 2 Ninja greegrees, and one Karamja Monkey Greegree.

The monkey you see above is a Monkey Guard without a beard, and you can make a Gorilla Greegree, which will turn you into it. You have to kill one (level 167) and take its bones along with a Monkey Talisman to Zooknock. You can buy the Monkey Talismans from Tutab the Rune Seller on Ape Atoll or you can get one for free from the Monkey Boy. They are about 1000 coins in the shops.

The Monkey Greegree is also needed in the Recipe for Disaster quest. I will not list this quest. Because it is one of the longest quests in Runescape, and we already have a guide for this quest.

Runescape Auto Talker

Runescape Auto Talker

If you have seen someone stand and repeat the same words over and over exactly as the first, most likely they are using a Runescape Auto Talker. The Runescape Auto Talker is a macro, also known as a bot, which takes control of your account and makes it do things, in this case type messages. Another example of a bot would be the Runescape auto miner. It takes control of your Runescape account and continuously clicks on the ore rock that you specify. Any sort of macro is illegal in Runescape, Jagex has built their own secret bots to “crawl” Runescape and look for suspicious activity. If the evidence is too great, they will act on it.

I do not in anyway support hacks, cheats, macros, bots, what ever you want to call it. I think that it is wrong, evil, and it makes the people who actually work for what they get feel worthless. You may think your not hurting anything by cheating, but what if everyone cheated and got all their skills level 99 and they maxed out their level? They would then sell the things that they acquired cheating, which would make the Runescape economy drop terribly. Then everything would become practically worthless, and people would own quite a few pairs of dragon armor, and it would not matter because there would be no challenges, then the Runescape population would die, so Jagex wouldn’t get any income, and Runescape - http://www.runescapemoney.ws/runescape/wp-login.php would be forced to shut down. So think about that.

So now, let’s look at what the Runescape Auto Talker does exactly. The Runescape Auto Talker is a program that will type the same message at a rate such as three seconds. So if we were to give it the words “Hey! Check out this article your reading about the Runescape Auto Talker!” and set it for every 10 seconds, anyone in chat range would get that message every 10 seconds. People often use this for advertising their items in the Grand Exchange, or to advertise a website.

Some auto talkers have built in special effects such as glow, scroll, wave, and flash. According to how it has been scripted, they can do anything that you could sitting there typing it yourself. However, if you were to have it at three seconds with the special effects, no doubt your threat level greatly increases - A perfect sentence with the same effects. Very suspicious, don’t you think?

If you are seriously still interested in a Runescape Auto Talker, then a simple Google search will find a one. Beware, however, because many of these so-called Runescape Auto Talkers are really just keyloggers. A keylogger is a form of virus that tracks any keys that the person types. This way they can get not only your Runescape account, but also other personal information like your credit card information. They might also contain other viruses. People have designed some viruses to go into the computer’s logged files and steal any information. Its almost like a more advanced keylogger, but instead of logging keys that are being typed, it goes in and steals keys that have already been typed.

If you are still going to get a Runescape Auto Talker, I suppose I cannot stop you, but I really do not see a point in it. The same time you spend sitting there with the Runescape Auto Talker on; you could be sitting and typing it. No hack, cheat, glitch, bot, macro, or any other cheating device is worth it. You turn one on to test it, you come back, and your account has been banned. The consequences are always worse than the gains.

Runescape Auto Bots

Have you ever noticed a level 3 player chopping yews? Most likely, they are using Runescape Auto Bots. These macros will take control of your computer and play the game for you, thus allowing you to gain levels, items, money, and so on without even having to be at the computer. These bots are illegal, and you can be banned from Runescape if you are caught with them. Jagex has made special bots of their own to hunt down people who are using these programs.

On January 19 2006, Jagex banned 15,000 accounts because of cheating. On this day, they posted on their front page that they can easily detect you when you cheat and that it is only a matter of time until you are banned. This is very true, and yet, there are still a lot of people who use these programs with the risk of loosing their account. You can loose your account in more than one way. Besides being banned, you can also loose it to the creators of these “programs”. They will claim that their viruses as the bots and really, as soon as you use them and log into your Runescape account, they will have your username and password. These viruses are called Key Loggers and they will log anything you type and send it back to the creator. Jagex still bans thousands of accounts a month because of this problem.

I find it really sad that so many people are getting their accounts banned for cheating, when they can do the same thing without cheating. Sure, it’s going to take up your time, but it is a game. If you’re not going to play it right, why play it at all? When you cheat at Runescape, you get an instant 99% chance of loosing your account. Whether to a ban or to a virus, taking a risk with 1% chance of getting away with it is complete insanity. It’s much easier to just go spend a week fishing. You will slowly work your way up to sharks, and once you get to sharks, you will have your millions without cheating.

If you do get a Key Logger on your computer, you are in deep trouble. It can get other things besides just your Runescape account. It can get anything that you type. This includes your Credit Card information. Can you imagine trying to use a credit card that is magically maxed out just because you tried to cheat at Runescape? Runescape auto bots you would not be too happy.

Now I will ask you, is it really worth it? I think not. Yet, people are still using them. One reason is to make quick high-level accounts to illegally sell. Then the person who buys the account will have an account that is to be banned soon, and the person who cheated got some money off of it. Jagex is becoming more and more involved and has been hunting down the creators of these cheats and suing them. This is a great way to stop the problem. Now, you can do your part as well. If you find a cheating website, send a support ticket to them with the address. Then they will go investigate. You can also do your part in the game. If you think someone is cheating, report him or her. Let us all help make the game a fair place to play. I know I would much rather like to see a fair game than someone cheating for what they get.

Improving your skills in Runescape

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Holiday Guides, Runescape Community, Runescape Gold, Runescape Guide, free runescape money, runescape

Improving your skills in Runescape

I have heard a new way of classifying your skills in Runescape. Which I have taken and improved. There are many different ideas on Runescape, some are useful but everyone knows, then there are some less known that are not very useful. I love to listen to people and their ideas. You never know when someone is going to stumble upon something brilliant.

I was told recently to put your skills into two sections. The first group consists of skills that you have to level up on your own; you cannot buy anything to help raise the levels. The second one, you can buy things to help raise the level. Let me begin by making the lists:

Section 1 consists of:

» Slayer
» Strength
» Thieving
» Agility
» Fishing
» Hunter
» Attack
» Mining
» Hitpoints
» Woodcutting
» Defense

Section 2 consists of:

» Smithing
» Runecrafting
» Fletching
» Construction
» Prayer
» Firemaking
» Farming
» Herblore
» Farming
» Ranging
» Crafting
» Magic
» Cooking

These are not complete lists, but it will give you a good idea. The first group you cannot buy things to help you level, and the second group you can. Such as, if you bought 200 raw lobsters and cooked them, then you would have bought something to help you level your cooking.

For Smithing, you can buy various ores and smelt them into bars, or you can buy the bars and make them into weapons and armor. To make these bars, you are going to need to know what type of ore to buy.

Bronze = 1 Copper Ore 1 Tin Ore
Iron = 1 Iron ore
Silver = Silver Ore
Steel = 1 Iron Ore 2 Coal
Gold = Gold ore
Mithril = 1 Mithril Ore 4 Coal
Adamantite = 1 Adamantite Ore 6 coal
Rune = 1 Runite Ore 8 Coal

It is easier to buy your materials than have to get them yourself. Then you can improve your skills on Runescape a lot faster. Here is how you can tell which group to classify a skill into -

Does it need materials to level up? If the answer is yes, then it goes into section 2. Although the higher level you go the more expensive it gets, if you truly want to get that level, you will pay the price. This can also be good for people who want to make money. Stock up on the items that are needed. Then when people come after them, you can pocket the money.

There are thousands of ideas and thoughts on Runescape. Especially about combat and how to improve your skills. As I said, I love to learn new ways and test them. Usually I will put my own little twist onto it and make it better, but sometimes I will come across a technique that is perfect. If you have your own way of doing things, feel free to share it in the comments below.

Improving your skills in Runescape will help you advance so you can gain levels and enjoy the benefits that accompany being a higher level. Try different things to see how fast you can improve your skills. Who knows, you might have the best way ever of improving skills! Haha! Happy Playing.

Runescape Merchanting Tips

Posted by: amber  //  Category: FunOrb, Lores and Histories, Runescape Banks, Runescape Banks Guide, Runescape Community, free runescape money, runescape accounts

Have you ever wondered what merchanting was? Well, it is just buying low and selling high. A lot of people get Runescape merchanting confused with scamming. Of course, this is not the case. Scamming is cheating other players out of their money, items, and so on.

Here is the quote of rule 2: “You must not scam or deceive other players. And lying to other players for your own personal gain is not in the spirit of fair play.”

Merchanting is just buying as low as you can get it, and selling as high as you can. With the new trade limits, it makes it harder to buy super low, and sell super high, because players now know exactly how much they are paying. This usually means less people willing to pay the max price. Due to the trade limits, merchanting has almost become a dead topic. Now all people recommend doing is hording. Hording is my term for stocking up in ore, wood, ect… to sell as bulk to players. Hording and Merchanting are two of the same whole.

You see, Merchants need bulk items as cheap as they can get them so that they can sell the bulk items for more of a price. I have heard that there are three types of sellers.

You have: Repeat Sellers - These ones will give you a continuous flow of the bulk. As you keep on buying, you form a trust between each other and thus can get better deals.
Desperate Sellers - These are good, as if they are desperate you can get a way better deal. Usually these types of sellers are over stocked and will take the loss. Then you have the ones who do not know the value of an item. Personally, I think that this is a lot like scamming. Just so you know, due to the trade limits, these types of sellers do not exist. This is one reason that the Merchants have died out. So in a way, merchanting use to be a lot like scamming. Now a days, it just buying low and selling high.

I do not think I ever tried merchanting; it seemed like a lot of work for not so much profit. Not to mention that you had to have money to start with, and back before I developed my own ways, I had no money. I started earning money by chopping wood and then I moved onto fishing. Hording is an excellent way to make money. For those few who are still merchanting, I greatly recommend you switch over to Hording. As more and more people switch over, less and less are going to accept less than the normal price. As the price rises, merchanting will become a dead theory.

The people who Hord have figured out that they are accepting too low for their items now, because of the trade limits. So instead of selling low, they are going to go to the bulk buyers and sell for a better price. As this happens, the market will slowly rise. As the market slowly rises, more and more people will begin to switch over to hording. As this happens, people are going to look for the lowest price available. That is where you come in.

Hord and save, watch the market go up. When you think that it is time, sell as low as you can. I guarantee that you are going to have people lined up just waiting to buy from you, and because you spent your time hording, you will have the items to supply them. Thus, you become rich. Happy Hording!

Runescape Classic

Runescape Classic

Yes, that’s right. There was a game before the Runescape that you now know. It did not have nearly as good graphics as Runescape does now. In fact, they looked like pieces of paper.

Originally, in Runescape Classic when you were starting out, you got to pick from five major classes. Each class got their own specialty when starting out. These classes were

Ranger - Started with a shortbow and arrows.
Adventurer - Started with a Bronze Axe, Tinderbox, and one piece of Cooked Meat.
Miner - Started with a pickaxe, which at that time were the only ones available.
Warrior - Started with a Bronze Short Sword and a Wooden Shield
Necromancer - Started with a Wizard Hat and a regular Staff.

This feature was taken out early July 2002.

They also allowed at one point to be able to duel anywhere in the world. You could just walk up to someone, right click, and click duel. Players liked this idea for more than one reason. For one, you could get to Lumbridge fast because as long as you didn’t stake anything, you wouldn’t loose any items. They liked this feature because if they were training and a person walked up, they could duel over the training spot. This saved players a lot of time because they didn’t have to switch worlds to find a less crowded area. They removed this feature because players could run away and the duel would not end, and players could bank the staked items. So, to fix this problem, Jagex built the Dueling Arena.

Player Killing in Runescape Classic was a whole different world. In the beginning, you could be killed everywhere except Lumbridge, or if you designated yourself as NPK which stands for Non-Player Killers. Along with that, There was no running in Runescape Classic, so catching your pray was much easier. In addition, you could not eat during a battle, and you could not run until 3 turns of attacks happened. So more than often, did PKers catch unsuspecting players in the old days?

Runescape Classic had their own type of notes as well. Instead of having noted items, they had Certificates. Also known as certs. These certs equaled five of every item. Therefore, instead of one note per one item, they had one cert per five items. The Banks were very hard to use, as only one player could talk to one NPC at a time. So people often sat in a bank for long periods of time just waiting to be able to even get into their bank. After they finally got in, there was a withdraw and deposit limit! So trading large amounts of items took even longer.

Here are some random facts about Runescape Classic:

When a person tried to say something offensive, the censors would change it to say Cabbage.

There was a skill called Tailoring that was near-useless and very hard to gain experience points in, they later removed it and made it an add-on to Crafting.

Influence was basically like Quest Points. The only way to get it was to complete quests. A person with high Influence level could sell their silk to the silk trader for more coins than the normal amount.

Prayer was split into 2 different categories, Good Prayer and Evil Prayer.

I played Runescape Classic one time, but not very long. After Runescape 2 came out, Runescape Classic became out of date. I believe there are still some players on Runescape Classic. All of the Free to Play members of Runescape Classic had to either upgrade to Pay to Play, or loose their accounts. This of course made a lot of players angry; because they had played the game for a long time and did not find it right to be forced into paying. Happy Playing

Runescape Halloween Event

Runescape Halloween Event

Like many online role playing games, Runescape celebrates real-world holidays in their fictional, magical world of monsters, magic, and heroes. Halloween is no exception. During the Halloween holiday season, players have a few unique quests and events you can participate in. But you have to hurry—once the ghouls and goblins have completed their trick or treating on Halloween, the quests and many of their rewards are gone for another year.

Maggie the Witch
Maggie the traveling witch starts the main Halloween quests, Swept Away and trick or treating. Maggie is located north of Rimmington, and players will find her with her two oxen, Norman and Babe. However, her oxen are sick, and Maggie has to stay with them to nurse them back to health. This means she can’t complete either her magical potion or go trick or treating! Runescape members, however, can help her complete both tasks and in the process gain some very nice rewards.

The Swept Away Quest
The Swept Away quest involves helping Maggie complete her magic potion by visiting three of her friend and getting her magic broom enchanted. This isn’t as simple as simply visiting the three, of course. Instead, players must solve a puzzle for each witch before she will enchant the broom. The three witches are Hetty of Rimmington, Betty of Port Sarim, and Aggie of Draynor.

The first step is to visit Hetty in Rimmington. Hetty’s enchantment involves rubbing her special ointment on the broom, but Hetty is out of ointment and can’t make more without some newt. She has some in her basement, which she asked the player to get. Down in the basement, players encounter Gus the Ghoul. He was delivering Hetty’s new supplies, but he got the labels all mixed up. One box contains only newts, one contains only toads, and one contains both. Players must figure out which is which so that Hetty can make the ointment.

All three boxes are mislabeled—players must change the label on each one. Fortunately, Gus will be able to tell players if they’ve made a mistake, and since there are only three options, even just guessing will work eventually. Once the boxes are correctly labeled, players receive the broom ointment from Hetty.

Betty, the witch of Port Sarim, sends players to her basement to meet Lottie. Lottie is trying to get Betty’s magic wand, but it’s locked in a treasure chest that’s guarded by a number of creatures. Before the player can get to the chest, they have to put the creatures in the correct cage. There are six animals to rearrange, and Lottie provides players with a slate that shows where each animal is, making it somewhat easier. One thing to remember, though, is that animals can only be moved to an adjacent cage, and a cage can only hold one animal at a time. Once all of the animals are in the correct cage, the player received Betty’s wand, which she then uses to enchant the broom.

The final witch is Aggie of Draynor. She can only enchant the broomstick in her magical place, but that place is currently covered in sand. The player must sweep the sand away from the magical lines so that they form four different triangles. There are several ways of accomplishing this, and trial and error work just as well as any other method. Once the triangles are revealed, players receive the final enchantment and can return to Maggie.

Maggie can then finish up her Goulash. Once it’s done, she offers some to the player, who receives experience towards a skill. Players can eat the Goulash ten times.

Trick or Treat
Maggie also wants players to bring her some candy from the various trick or treat buckets located at specific locations. Completing this quest three times rewards players with the entire Witch outfit (for female characters) or Warlock outfit (for males). (Runescape Halloween Events and holiday items are located here)

There are three places to trick or treat, and they conveniently match up to the towns the three witches live in: Rimmington, Port Sarim, and Draynor. This makes doing Swept Away and Trick or Treat very easy. Each of these towns also features some really neat Halloween decorations, so they’re worth visiting during the event. Players will need six popcorn balls, five pieces of wrapped candy, and four chocolate drops to get all three pieces of the Halloween outfit. Some of the candy drops more frequently than others—players often get chocolate from trick or treating, but wrapped candy seems somewhat rare.
