Slayer FAQ

General

I don’t want to do my task!

Go to Turael in Burthorpe, north-west of Falador. If he thinks your task is too tough, he’ll give you a different one. He’ll only do this if your task is something he’d never set himself.

I’ve lost my enchanted gem, can I get another one?

Yes, you can buy one from any of the Slayer Masters.

Do all Slayer Masters set all kinds of monster as tasks?

No, certain monsters are only assigned by certain Slayer masters. Read the Slayer - Masters article to find out what your Slayer Master might give you for an assignment.

What happens if another player is attacking the same NPC as me? Will I still get Slayer experience?

If two people are killing the same monster in multiway combat, both players will get the kill, but the experience will be halved. The player that does the most damage to the NPC will have the right to pick up the dropped items first.

Both the person who dealt the killing blow and the person who did the most damage will be counted as the slayer for the purposes of their kill counts (If you did both these things you will only count as having killed the creature once, though). The Slayer experience will be split evenly between the two players.

Why don’t the Slayer monsters give any Slayer experience?

Slayer monsters will only give Slayer experience if you have been assigned to kill them.

My Slayer target is a shade, where can I find them?

Shades can be found in and around the sorry village of Mort’ton. Mort’ton is found south of Mort Myre Swamp. You will need to start the Nature Spirit quest in order to pass the gate south-west of Canifis.

Alternatively, you can look for them in the Sepulchre of Death, the lowest level of the Stronghold of Security.

Can I kill monsters for my Slayer target on a non-members’ world?

No, only monsters killed on members’ worlds will count towards your experience and Slayer kills.

I have been assigned to slay kalphites. Does this mean I will have to kill the Kalphite Queen?

The Kalphite Queen is just one of the monsters who belong to the kalphite family. If you have been assigned to slay kalphites, you can also kill kalphite workers (level 28), guardians (level 141) and soldiers (level 85). You will gain Slayer experience for killing any of these kalphite monsters.

I have been assigned the task of killing elves. I am told that I can only reach the elves when I have done the Regicide quest.

This is not true, you only need to have started the quest to access the elves.

What special attack does the abyssal demon possess?

Abyssal demons have the power to teleport themselves, but more importantly they have the power to teleport the player next to them.

Please note, when fighting abyssal demons we recommend that you turn auto-retaliate on.

Do dust devils drop dragon chainbodies? Where can I find them and what Slayer level do I need to kill them?

They can indeed drop dragon chainbodies. You can find them in the Chaos Tunnels or in the Smoke Dungeon south-east of the Bandit camp, in the Kharidian Desert. You will need a Slayer level of 65 to kill these monsters. Oh, and don’t forget your face mask!

What is the best method to slay a bloodveld or jelly?

Bloodvelds and jellies have a strange attack which can be prevented entirely with the Protect from Melee prayer. If you’re not using Prayer, then armour with Magic defence works best, such as dragonhide, splitbark, or mystic armour.

Do creatures in Daemonheim count towards my slayer task?

All creatures within Daemonheim can count towards your current slayer task.

Why can’t I fight strykewyrms even though I have the Slayer level for them?

Strykewyrms are smarter than they appear, and can sense a lot about any creatures in their territory through subtle vibrations in the ground. It must be that only slayers who are specifically assigned to kill strykewyrms give off a subtle, possibly more tensed vibe, which the wyrms sense, and know to protect their territory from. Casual passers-by clearly aren’t as invested in killing them, so the wyrms do not consider them a large enough threat to bother with.

Slayer - The Basics

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Runescape Skills

Introduction

The Slayer skill in action Across RuneScape, even the most powerful adventurers will find strange beasts and weird spirits that defy ordinary combat methods. Whether through sorcery, armour or other, stranger means, these monsters are impervious to the attacks of those who have not trodden the path of the Slayer.

The Slayer skill allows you to kill those strange creatures that you may previously have thought immune to your attacks. Many of these creatures are ancient and greedy, and have amassed a great deal of wealth in their time. You’ll find that by training your Slayer skill, you can earn great rewards.

To begin training your Slayer skill, you should approach a Slayer Master.

Six heroes who remember the ancient art of the Slayer still exist within the world of Runescape; these are the Slayer Masters. Located in Burthorpe, Morytania, Edgeville Dungeon, Zanaris, Shilo Village and the Ancient Cavern, each caters to different combat levels.

If you have completed the Smoking Kills quest, you will discover a seventh Slayer Master, who lives in Pollnivneach, deep in the Kharidian Desert.

Slayer Masters can be found by looking for the ‘Slayer Master’ icon on the world map. For a clearer idea of their locations, please read Slayer - Masters.

Slayer Assignments

Your Slayer Master will assign you a certain number of a type of monster to slay. By killing these monsters, you will gain experience in the Slayer skill. Each of the Slayer Masters has a different pool of creatures they will assign to you, each tailored to suit different levels of the skill. A full list of the type of monsters you may be assigned to kill and how many you may be asked to slay can be found in Slayer - Masters.

Often, you will discover that the monster you are instructed to slay is an ‘ordinary’ creature - one that requires no Slayer level to kill or any special equipment - other times, however, you will need to prepare for battle with specific equipment, which can be purchased from a Slayer Master. To see a list of all of the specialised Slayer equipment, please read Slayer - Equipment.

When you begin slaying you will be given an enchanted gem. You can use this to get in touch with your Slayer Master wherever you are in RuneScape. You can use it to ask the Slayer Master questions regarding your assignment, such as how many more monsters you have left to kill or the best methods to go about slaying these creatures. To do this, just left-click on the enchanted gem in your inventory. This will bring up your Slayer Master so you can ask them questions.

A bracelet of combat will also give occasional Slayer task updates.

If you find that the task you have been assigned is too difficult, you can find an easier alternative by visiting Burthorpe and finding the Burthorpe Slayer Master, Turael. You will not be able to do this if your original task was assigned by Turael.

Once you’ve completed your assignment, you can get another by returning to a Slayer Master. Only monsters you kill on a members’ world will count towards your Slayer task and experience.

Runecrafting - Locating the Altars

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Runescape Skills

Introduction

You can use your talisman like a compass to find its matching altar. For example, you can use the mind talisman to direct you to the mind altar.

To use the compass feature of the talisman, right-click on the talisman and select the ‘Locate’ option. It will tell you which direction you have to walk to find the corresponding altar. The direction to take is displayed in the chat window, keep selecting the ‘Locate’ option until you arrive at the altar.

Use your talisman with the ruins by right-clicking on it and selecting ‘Use talisman’. Then click on the mysterious ruins. You will be teleported into the altar. If you are using a tiara to enter the ruins you need to left-click on the mysterious ruins and you will automatically enter.

Runecrafting – Obtaining Talismans and Tiaras

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Runescape Skills

Talismans allow runecrafters to locate and gain access to Runecrafting altars through mysterious ruins. Even if a runecrafter memorises the location a mysterious ruin, the runecrafter will not be able to enter the ruin to get to the altar without a matching talisman. Each type of talisman gives you access to its matching Runecrafting altar. It is only at these altars that runes can be made.

After completing the Rune Mysteries, you will receive an air talisman as a reward.

Talismans

Below is a table of talismans and where you can obtain them.

Talisman

Examples of where to get talisman

Air An air talisman is given to you during the Rune Mysteries. They are also dropped by goblins, wizards and creatures in the Abyss

Mind Dropped by imps, wizards, dark wizards, Yanille tower guards, Colonel Radick and creatures in the Abyss

Water Dropped by wizards, giant frogs, dark wizards and creatures in the Abyss

Earth Dropped by men, women, wizards, dark wizards, Al Kharid warriors, rogues, vampires, lesser demons, greater demons and creatures in the Abyss

Fire Dropped by guards, wizards, unarmed skeletons, dark wizards and creatures in the Abyss

Body Dropped by guards, wizards, dark wizards, giants and creatures in the Abyss

Cosmic Gift from Random Events. There is a rare chance you can get them from some high level monsters and creatures in the Abyss

Chaos Dropped by hobgoblins, skeletons, ice warriors, shadow warriors, lesser demons, hill giants, fire giants and creatures in the Abyss

Nature Dropped by hobgoblins, jogres, moss giants, green dragons, zombies and creatures in the Abyss

Death Obtained after completing Mourning’s Ends Part II. Dropped by dark beast

Blood You find a blood talisman during Legacy of Seergaze.

Elemental Dropped by monsters dwelling in the Abyss

Talismans are also required when making Combination runes.
Tiaras

Tiaras perform the same function as talismans - they allow you to gain access to a Runecrafting altar. Tiaras have an advantage over talismans, however, in that you can wear tiaras on your head, freeing an extra space in your inventory to carry essence. To make a tiara, see the silver section of the Crafting guide.

Once you have crafted the tiara, you can enchant it to allow you to access the altar of your choice.

To enchant a tiara you must:

Take your silver tiara to your chosen altar. You will also need the matching talisman to the altar.
Use the tiara on the altar and your talisman will then disappear from your inventory and your tiara has now been enchanted.

Runecrafting - The Basics

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Runescape Skills

Introduction

Runes are the main components of casting magical spells. Using different combinations of runes will allow a player to cast different spells.
Requirements

The air altar The first thing you will need is some rune essence. This is the only compulsory item for Runecrafting. If you want to mine rune essence for yourself, you will need to complete the Rune Mysteries quest. Once you’ve done that, you can find more details by reading the Mining - The Rune Essence Mine article. Alternatively, you could purchase rune essence from other players.

Before you can craft certain runes, you need to meet some requirements. To craft cosmic runes you will have to complete The Lost City, to craft blood runes you must complete the Legacy of Seergaze quest, and to craft death runes you will need to complete Mourning’s End Part II.

Runecrafting takes place at rune altars. Each type of rune altar converts rune essence into runes of the altar’s type. For instance, the fire altar will convert rune essence into fire runes.

There are various ways to access the rune altars. Players that want to access the rune altars through the mysterious ruins need a matching talisman (or tiara). However, players using the Abyss to runecraft do not need a talisman or tiara to access rune altars.
Rune Essence and Pure Essence

Before you can mine rune essence, you must undertake the Rune Mysteries quest, in which you help the wizards of the Wizards’ Tower uncover the secrets of Runecrafting. They will then grant you access to the source of rune essence.

Rune essence

Rune essence can be used to make air, water, earth, fire, mind and body runes only.
Rune essence cannot be used to make member-only craftable runes such as law or combination runes.
Mining on free worlds, or while having a Mining level under 30 on a members’ world, will not produce pure essence but rune essence instead.
Rune essence may be traded to any other player.

Pure essence

Pure essence can be used in Runecrafting without restriction on which runes can be created given the player has the necessary level.
Mining on a members’ world, with a Mining level over 30, will produce pure essence rather than rune essence.
On members’ worlds, monsters which would normally drop rune essence will drop pure essence instead.
Quests or situations where rune essence would be used will accept either pure essence or rune essence.
Pure essence can only be traded with members.

The rune essence mine The following people are the only ones that can teleport you to the essence mines:

Wizard Sedridor on the lower level of the Wizards’ Tower south of Draynor Village.
Aubury in the rune shop in Varrock, just south of the east bank.
Wizard Cromperty in East Ardougne, just to the north-east of the Marketplace.
Wizard Distentor in the Magic Guild in Yanille.
The gnome Brimstail in a cave in the Tree Gnome Stronghold (north-west of Ardougne). To find his cave, head north-west in the Stronghold until you see a small bridge on the west side of the Stronghold. Brimstail’s cave is inside a large hollow rock a little to the east of that bridge.

Rune essence and pure essence can be obtained in the following ways:

Can be mined from the rune essence mine - please see Mining - The Rune Essence Mine.
There is also a rune essence mine on Lunar Isle, although you must have completed Lunar Diplomacy to gain access to the mine.
Pure essence is dropped by certain monsters e.g. Banshees.
Bought from other players.

Prayer FAQ

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Runescape Skills

Why is it that my protection prayers do not always work against another player?

The protection prayers will always work against monsters. These prayers do work against other players, but it will reduce the damage you receive by 40%.

My Protect Item prayer didn’t work. Why is this?

I’m sorry to hear of your loss. Remember that your ‘Protect Item’ relies on your Prayer points. There are instances where a player’s Prayer points will run out before they die, rendering the prayer useless. Also, the Protect Item prayer will not work in the Wilderness on high-risk Wilderness worlds.

Why can’t I use any prayers in the Abyss?

Upon entering the Abyss, it will drain your Prayer stat to zero.

Is it possible to regain Prayer points within the Abyss?

Yes, you can regain Prayer points as normal. Simply drink a Prayer potion and you will be able to use your prayers again.

Does the dragon scimitar special attack affect the Protect Item prayer?

The dragon scimitar special attack only affects the Protect From prayers (Magic, Ranged, Melee and Summoning). It has no effect on the Protect Item prayer.

If I use the dragon scimitar special attack to stop a player’s protect prayers for five seconds, does the damage on the special hit count with the player having prayers on or off?

The damage and chance to hit is calculated with the opponent using the Protect From prayer.

When I recharge my Prayer points at an altar or with a potion, my Prayer level is the maximum number of Prayer points I can have. How can I get extra Prayer points?

Here are a few places where this is possible:

* The monks’ altar upstairs in the Monastery (talk to Abbot Langley).
* The Nature Shrine in Mort Myre (after the Nature Spirit quest).
* Oo’glog sulphur spring (after As a First Resort).
* The altar beneath the Digsite (after Temple at Senntisten).

The first two will give you two extra Prayer points. Oo’glog’s sulphur spring boosts your Prayer points by 10%. Senntisten Altar boosts your Prayer points by 15%. Also, don’t forget that a Prayer skillcape can boost your Prayer level to 100.

What’s the best way to increase my Prayer level?

Get in the habit of burying every bone and scattering all the demon ashes you see. Regardless of how little experience you may seem to be getting, it all adds up! Train your Construction skill high enough and you can build an altar in your POH, which multiplies how much XP you get from each bone buried. Finally, worshipping the Ectofuntus in Port Phasmatys is another fast way to gain Prayer XP.

How does the Prayer statistic work?

Next to your minimap, you will see the Prayer stat. If you are using prayers to fight monsters or players, then it will drain through use. Some items of armour or other equipment can boost this (look at your equipment bonuses by clicking the ‘Show Equipment Stats’ button in your worn inventory). The higher the Prayer boost is, the longer your prayers will last. For more information on Prayer-boosting equipment, see Prayer - Holy Attire and Equipment.

Prayer - Extra Features

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Runescape Skills

The Monastery

Location of the Monastery
Once you have a Prayer level of 31, Abbot Langley will allow you to enter the Monastery, located west of Edgeville.

Inside there is an altar, which gives a temporary boost to your Prayer, and monks who will heal you for free. You will also be able to ask Brother Jered to enchant any holy symbols you make, as well as some monk’s robes laying around that you can take.

Senntisten Altar

Location of Senntisten Temple
Once you have completed The Temple at Senntisten, you will be able to use the altar at Senntisten, which provides a 15% boost above your maximum Prayer level.

Summoning Familiars

Using the Summoning skill, you’ll find that there are a few familiars that might be useful for training your Prayer. Of particular note is the abyssal parasite, who slows the Prayer drain you get while in the Abyss.

Ghasts

If you have completed the Nature Spirit, you will be able to train on ghasts as a way of increasing your Prayer level.

Fighting the Ghasts
For more information about the Nature Spirit, please visit the quests area of the Manual.

You will need to ensure that you have a blessed silver sickle and a druid pouch full of flowers, gathered using ‘cast bloom’ from the sickle.

You can simply walk about until a ghast attacks you, or you can use the druid pouch on a ghast to make it attackable. If you defeat it, you will receive 30 Prayer experience as well as any normal experience you would receive for engaging in combat.

More powerful ghasts exist in the deep swamps of Mort Myre, although these routes are usually only taken by experienced guides aiding villagers from Burgh de Rott in Temple Trekking. These ghasts are known to give Prayer experience in the range of 80, 110 and 140 depending on the creature you run into.

Note: If you go to the grotto and pray at the altar, you will temporarily gain 2 extra Prayer points.

For more information about surviving Mort Myre, please read the Terrain Survival Guide.

The Ectofuntus

Use Ectofuntus to increase your Prayer level
If you have completed the Priest in Peril quest, then you are able to use the Ectofuntus to increase your Prayer level.
You can use either bones or demon ashes at the Ectofuntus. Bones will first need to be put through the bone grinder up the stairs from the Ectofuntus, then for the resulting bonemeal to be collected in an empty pot; demon ashes require no such preparation. The next step is to fill up a bucket with ectoplasm from the very bottom level of the temple and return to the main floor (the one with Necrovarius and the Ectofuntus in).

With a bucket of ectoplasm and a pot of bonemeal/some ashes on you, click on the Ectofuntus and choose the ‘Worship’ option. One bucket of ectoplasm and one lot of bonemeal/ashes will be destroyed in the process, but you will received four times the normal amount of XP you would have done from burying that bone or scattering those ashes.

It is possible to use this function up to fifty-three times before having to speak with a disciple to receive your ecto-tokens (a form of currency used in Port Phasmatys). It is also possible to get more than one batch of ectoplasm and bonemeal with each trip, so make sure you use your time wisely.

The amount of experience you gain depends on the type of bones or ashes you use.

Poison Book - Prayer of Deliverance from Poisons

During The Great Brain Robbery you will find a Saradomin prayer book that can be used to ward off poison.

If you are poisoned: first, equip a blessed symbol of Saradomin, then simply right-click on the book and choose the “Recite-prayer” option. It will cost you some Prayer points, relative to how badly you are poisoned, but you will be cured.

Prayer Restoring

[image] It is possible for Members to drink prayer restore or super prayer potions to restore any lost Prayer points. Please see the Herblore section of the Manual for more details.
[image] Biscuits can be gained from any level of treasure trail, and will restore 1 prayer point (and 10-30 life points) with each bite. These are stackable (200 can be held at one time) and are untradable.
[image] You can use the Reverence aura, available through the Members Loyalty Programme, to reduce prayer drain by 3%. This aura also increases the amount of prayer restored by any potions you use. Auras are untradable.

Player Owned Houses

Chapels built in your house can be used to train Prayer as well; click here for more information.

The Shades Of Mort’ton

Once you have completed the Shades of Mort’ton quest, then you will be able to cremate shades as a way of increasing your Prayer level and receiving various rewards.

To learn how to burn shades, see the Shades of Mort’ton activity page.

The Paterdomus Columbarium

If you have completed Legacy of Seergaze, you will also be able to burn Vyrewatch remains in the Paterdomus Columbarium using pyre logs. Vyrewatch corpses can only be burnt using teak pyre logs or better.

Prayer Training in Dungeoneering

It is possible to train all of your skills while dungeoneering, and Prayer is no exception. Plenty of creatures drop bones in Daemonheim, and you can receive four times the amount of Prayer XP if you take your monster bones to an altar within Daemonheim.

* To find out more about skill doors and the basics of dungeoneering, please click here
* To find tables with Prayer requirements and XP levels, click here

Quests Giving Prayer Experience

For information on which quests reward you with prayer experience see the Prayer Rewards page.

Pyre Ships

Those that have learnt most of the Barbarian Training methods will discover a new way to boost their Prayer experience: burning pyre ships.

Click here to find out more about pyre ships.

Burning a pyre ship will grant you a bonus to your Prayer experience depending upon which type of logs you use to construct the ship. You will receive a 300% bonus to Prayer experience the next few times that you bury bones.

The Skeletal Horror

If you have completed Rag and Bone Man, Fur ‘n’ Seek, and both of the Odd Old Man’s wish lists, you will be able to face a creature known as the skeletal horror. The first time you defeat it, you will receive 10,000 Slayer XP and 7,000 Prayer XP.

Once you’ve laid the skeletal horror to rest, the Odd Old Man will lay out all of its bones and set about rebuilding it (for ‘research purposes’, apparently), and would be thankful for your help in defeating it again, one week later, so it doesn’t get out and destroy the world or something. (Bad skeletal horror, bad!)

Every time you defeat it after the first will award you with 1,250 Slayer XP and 1,000 Prayer XP. To make it easier on your legs, after completing Fur ‘n’ Seek, he’ll even enchant your bonesack or ram skull helm, giving it slightly better stats and the ability to teleport you to his shack, once per rebuild.

Spirit Shields

The spirit shield is a reward for completing Summer’s End, and can be used as it is, blessed, or combined with sigils to make it even stronger. Click here to see what each variant is capable of.

Making a blessed spirit shield
You can combine a spirit shield with holy elixir at a Saradomin altar, provided you have at least level 85 Prayer. In addition to the shield, you will receive 1500 Prayer experience. If you don’t have the Prayer level required, you can take it to Brother Jered in the Monastery, who will charge for the remarkably strenuous effort.

Holy elixir is dropped by the Corporeal Beast.
Arcane spirit shield
You need 90 Prayer and 85 Smithing to make an arcane spirit shield. It is constructed by using an arcane sigil on a blessed spirit shield at an anvil (for obvious reasons, you will also need a hammer), which will also reward you with 1800 Smithing experience.

Arcane sigils are dropped by the Corporeal Beast.
Divine spirit shield
You need 90 Prayer and 85 Smithing to make a divine spirit shield. It is constructed by using an divine sigil on a blessed spirit shield at an anvil (for obvious reasons, you will also need a hammer), which will also reward you with 1800 Smithing experience.

Divine sigils are dropped by the Corporeal Beast.
Elysian spirit shield
You need 90 Prayer and 85 Smithing to make an elysian spirit shield. It is constructed by using an elysian sigil on a blessed spirit shield at an anvil (for obvious reasons, you will also need a hammer), which will also reward you with 1800 Smithing experience.

Elysian sigils are dropped by the Corporeal Beast.
Spectral spirit shield
You need 90 Prayer and 85 Smithing to make a spectral spirit shield. It is constructed by using a spectral sigil on a blessed spirit shield at an anvil (for obvious reasons, you will also need a hammer), which will also reward you with 1800 Smithing experience.

Spectral sigils are dropped by the Corporeal Beast.

If you find yourself unable to attach a sigil to a shield, and thus require the services of someone both skilled with an anvil and blessed with remarkable faith, you may find Brother Bordiss a useful dwarf to visit.
Bonecrusher

If you have a tendency to leave bones on the ground and not bury them, then the bonecrusher might be to your taste. This item can be bought with dungeoneering tokens from the reward trader of Daemonheim, and will automatically bury any bones that you would have received from a monster drop. The item needs only to be kept in your inventory for it to take effect.

Random Events

While training your Prayer in RuneScape, you may notice the occasional random event happening to you. They can occur at any time and any place - beware!

Introduction

Prayer interface
Prayer is a skill which works best alongside your primary combat style (be it Magic, melee or Ranged). Through the use of prayers you can temporarily increase stats, reduce damage, and protect against various attacks.

To view what prayers are available to you in game, simply click on the Prayer icon. This can be found either at the top-right corner of the in-game menu (windowed mode) or at the bottom-right of the screen (resizable or full-screen mode). You should now have a list of all the prayers, with those currently available to you being lit up.

(m) These prayers are for members only.
+ These prayers will not stack with better versions of themselves (e.g. no Rock Skin + Steel Skin).
* These prayers cannot be used at the same time as each other.
~ Hold time is not reduced against Ancient Magick ice spells.

Each of the prayers can be turned on or off individually, and while in use will grant your character the advantages as listed above. To activate a prayer, left-click the icon in question and it will have a light appear around it, which lets you know that the prayer is in use. To deactivate it, simply click on it again.

At any one time you may have a single protect prayer (Protect from Magic, Protect from Melee, Protect from Missiles) active, as well as one of the following options:

* Strength and Attack prayers (only one of each at a time)
* One Magic prayer
* One Ranged prayer
* Protect from Summoning

So you can only use one attack-method prayer at a time (Attack and Strength combined count as melee-style here), and only one Defence prayer.

Effect of active prayers
At the bottom of the prayer interface is the show/hide stat adjustment button. If you click it, a small box will pop up within the prayer interface that shows you the cumulative effect your currently activated prayers are having on your Attack, Strength, Defence, Ranged and Magic stats. It also factors in any negative effects being caused to you by other people’s prayers. The percentage shown in this pop-up box is displayed rounded towards zero (e.g. an 11.5% boost would display rounded down to 11%; an -11.5% drain would display rounded up to -11%).

Pray at an altar to restore your prayer points
While any of your prayers are active, your Prayer points will start to slowly drain towards zero. The more prayers you use at once and the more powerful they are, the faster your points will be drained. When you run out of Prayer points, all prayers will automatically stop working and you will need to either pray at an altar or drink a Prayer potion before you are able to use them again (if you die this will also reset them). As your level increases the amount of Prayer points you have available to you will also increase.

Quick Prayers

Selecting quick prayers
Being useful things, you may find it handy to know that you can set up the Prayer icon next to your minimap to automatically switch a set of prayers on and off with a single click.

To use this feature, right-click on the prayer status globe next to your minimap and choose ‘Select quick prayers’, this will change your side interface to something like that shown to the right. Here, you can choose which prayers will be turned on or off when you click the status globe. All of the usual rules about which prayers can be used simultaneously still apply.

Note that using this feature will turn off any other prayers you are using.

Getting Prayer Experience

Unlike other skills, you do not gain Prayer experience through the act of praying (i.e. using Prayer or praying at an altar). Instead, you gain experience by burying the bones of creatures you (or another) have killed or by scattering the ashes of any demons you have banished.

Once you have obtained your bones/ashes, you can bury/scatter them by left-clicking on them in your inventory. This will automatically bury the bones/scatter the ashes on the spot where you are standing. Alternatively, you can right-click on the bones/ashes within your inventory and select the ‘Bury’/'Scatter’ option.

Different monsters may sometimes drop different types of bones/ashes, which will give you higher experience. It is possible to buy a bonecrusher (a reward from Dungeoneering), which will automatically bury any bones you would have received from monster drops. Ashes aren’t scattered with the bonecrusher, but can instead be automatically collected in urns and teleported away, which grants a bit more XP than if you’d just scattered them.

Zogre bones are obtained by killing zombie and skeleton ogres, of which there is a plentiful supply within Jiggig.

The other bones can only be obtained through picking the locks, or using appropriate keys on caskets found strewn throughout the area. It will require a Thieving skill of at least 20 to successfully pick the locks on these coffins. Be warned, failure will result in your Thieving skill being temporarily drained, as the dead wreak their vengeance upon you.

Ourg bones can be gained by killing General Graador in the God Wars Dungeon, if you are feeling brave enough!

Melee - Warriors’ Guild

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Runescape Skills

Introduction

The Warriors’ Guild The Warriors’ Guild is only accessible to RuneScape Members.

Harrallak Menarous has founded a guild for melee warriors after his numerous treks around the world. Strange devices for animating armour, huge catapults that fling missiles at you and dummies to test your combat skills are just a few of the many things you can train on here.

Explore the guild and meet the staff while honing your melee skills and maybe you could earn enough tokens to enter the cage on the top floor…

Location

The Warriors’ Guild is a massive building located just west of Burthorpe. You can get to Burthorpe by using a charge on a gaming necklace, if you have one.

If you do not have a gaming necklace, you can always walk to Burthorpe. Burthorpe is located north of Taverley, which is a short walk north-west of Falador.

If you are coming from Catherby or the west, you will need to navigate over or under White Wolf Mountain to get to Burthorpe.

Requirements

Only true warriors may enter this guild, so you will find that you will not be allowed to enter unless you meet one of the following criteria: level 99 Attack, level 99 Strength, or a combined Strength and Attack level of at least 130.

Recommended Items

As you will be participating in combat-related games, you will find that you take damage if unprepared. For this it is best to take good armour and weaponry. Please note that if you die in the Warriors’ Guild, you will not retain your items.

Games of the Guild

There are many games to participate in at the Warriors’ Guild, from which you can earn tokens (explained a little later in this guide). As well as this, there are many shops to buy items, food or potions, there is even a bank!

This massive guild has three floors, which are outlined below.

Ground floor
Activities:
Dummy Room - see ‘Activities’ section below.
Animation Room - see ‘Activities’ section below.

Shops/other:
Bank
Lidio’s food shop sells trout, bass, pizza, cheese potatoes and stew.
Lilly sells Attack, Strength and Defence potions for a very fair price.

First floor
Activities:
Catapult Room - see ‘Activities’ section below.
Shot Put Room - see ‘Activities’ section below.
Jimmy’s Challenge - see ‘Activities’ section below.

Shops/other:
The Armoury on this floor has a large stock of battleaxes, swords, daggers, maces, two-handed swords, chainbody armour and medium helmets.

Top floor
This is what the Warriors’ Guild is all about: earning your tokens so you can speak with Kamfreena and earn time and the right to enter the room containing the cyclopes.

For more information about earning tokens to enter this room, read on…

The Games

Animation room (ground floor)

How good is your armour? Would you be able to kill it? Find out when you use the armour animators to bring your armour to life! Hone your combat skills on these animated hunks of metal and earn tokens when you kill them.

As you are fighting your armour, there is a small chance of losing a piece, so make sure you only use items that you are willing to lose or can easily replace. The stronger the material you are fighting, the less chance there is that it will be destroyed.

To make your armour live, bring a full helm, platebody, and platelegs and use any piece with the animator. Make sure you only bring standard armour, as using other armour (trimmed, white, etc.) will not work. If you manage to defeat your armour, you can pick it up again, along with the tokens you earn for defeating it.

Armour type Bronze Iron Steel Black Mithril Adamant Rune
Combat level 11 23 46 69 92 113 138

Dummy room (ground floor)
In this room you are required to test your abilities in attack styles. Dummies will appear and you will have to act quickly and choose the correct attack style in order to whack them successfully.

For each dummy you correctly hit, you will be awarded 15 Attack experience, as well as Warriors’ Guild tokens. Be careful when you are attacking, if you get it wrong the effects can be stunning and you’ll be the dummy!

There is a poster in the entrance room and in the room itself outlining what attack styles you will need to use on each dummy.

The dummies will popup randomly, but each style will always appear in the same place, so if you memorise the location of each one, and each style needed to hit it, then you can quickly change styles to maximise your tokens.

Catapult room (First floor)
Dwarves are short and angry, and this one likes to throw large objects at humans.

You will need to speak with the dwarf outside this room to receive your two-handed defensive shield. This shield can only be equipped in the target area of the Warriors’ Guild, nowhere else.

When equipped, make sure you act quickly and look at the ammunition being hurled at you to select the appropriate defence style to use with your shield. Each successful defence grants 10 Defence experience and some Warriors’ Guild tokens.

Shotput room (First floor)

Behind the large iron door are two shotput lanes; how far can you throw a large lump of metal?

What technique will you use? You can earn tokens and Strength experience depending upon how far you manage to throw a shot. Go on, give it a go!

If you are having trouble with throwing shots, you can get a pestle and mortar and use them with some ashes. Doing so will create ground ashes which will help your efforts in this game if you dust your hands with them.

Jimmy (First floor)
Jimmy is by no means the soberest person in the Warriors’ Guild. He was meant to be guarding the store room on the first floor, but ended up popping in for a drink or two. When Jimmy gets drunk, he gets quite competitive and loves to show off his Strength, so be prepared to use your Strength in a drunken challenge to earn some tokens!

Rewards

As you have probably gathered, you will be rewarded with tokens from all the activities in the Warriors’ Guild, which will be stored by the warriors of the Warriors’ Guild. If you head to the top floor, you can speak with Kamfreena who will explain how you can use these tokens to get the ultimate prize: defenders.

Defenders are off-hand weapons wielded in the shield slot, providing Attack bonuses. To earn a defender, you must go into the room on the top floor and battle the cyclopes, who will drop defenders on the odd occasion. You must spend tokens to access this top floor, and these are taken every minute you spend on the top floor. The number of tokens taken is dependent on whether you have chosen to play in single token mode (taking only one type of token) or in multi token mode (taking all types of token):
In single token mode, 20 tokens will crumble away per minute. You must have 200 tokens of that type to play.
In multi token mode, 3 of each token type will crumble away per minute (making a total of 15). You must have at least 30 of each token to play.

When you first enter the room, you will be asked if you want to contribute one type of Warriors’ Guild token at a time in solo mode or if you want to contribute all five types of token at once in multi mode. If you contribute all five kinds of token in multi mode, then you will receive the following bonuses when you fight:
You will spend fewer tokens per minute in the cyclops room (15 per min. rather than 20 per min.)
Certed drops from the cyclopes will be for the maximum amount
You will have a greater chance of receiving a defender from a cyclops
You will have a greater chance of fighting a cyclossus
You will have a +2 damage bonus whenever you do damage to a cyclops or cyclossus

By fighting and defeating cyclopes, you gain a chance that they will drop a defender, among other items. The first defender you get will always be bronze. When you have this, return to Kamfreena and show her it. When you enter again, she will say that the cyclopes will now drop the next one up (iron). Again, you will have to kill them until you are lucky enough to receive this drop. Continue this for steel, black, mithril, adamant, rune and finally dragon. The hallowed dragon defender is much more likely to be dropped by a cyclossus, which can only be defeated while wielding a dragon or rune defender.

Important: If you die and drop your defender, you will need to start over. Because of this, it is wise to keep the other defenders in your bank, so you can show Kamfreena and start on the defender you dropped. For example, if you lose your rune defender, but have an adamant defender in the bank, you can show her it and only have to work for the rune one, not all of them again.

Mining FAQ

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Runescape Skills

General

I cannot mine any ore from a rock, what am I doing wrong?

If someone else is mining the rock as well as you, you may find the player with the higher Mining skill and/or equipment will get the ore.

What skill levels are required to mine the gem rocks in Shilo Village?

There is a level 40 Mining requirement on the Shilo Village gem rocks.

Where can I find the Mining Guild?

The Mining Guild can be found in the deepest corner of the Dwarven Mine. It can also be accessed from Falador. Go to the east bank and just behind it is a building. In the courtyard are ladders which lead down to the Mining Guild.

I want to increase my Mining level. How can I do this?

We recommend that you always wield the highest level pickaxe that you can afford (and use) and find a Mining spot close to a bank so that you can deposit the ore fast and carry on Mining.

Can I mine dragon ore or black ore?

No.

Where can I find a dragon pickaxe?

Dragon pickaxes are dropped by chaos dwarves within the Chaos Dwarf Battlefield, a cavern in the south-west of Keldagrim.

Does the cave goblin Mining helmet help me mine quicker?

No. The Mining helmet, lit or unlit, is purely worn for display, it will not help boost your Mining.
