Woodcutting - Vegetation Types

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Uncategorized

Types of Vegetation

There are different types of vegetation within the world of RuneScape and not all of them can be chopped down using a hatchet. Some will need to be trimmed back with machetes. You will receive logs, bark or a thatching spar when you have successfully cut down a tree or jungle growth.

To cut down the teak or mahogany trees on Karamja you will need to earn trading sticks. This can be done in Tai Bwo Wannai Clean-Up.

Woodcutting - The Basics

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Uncategorized

Introduction

Chopping down a tree One of the simplest ways in which people make a living in RuneScape, is by cutting down trees. The Woodcutting skill can benefit you in many ways, many of which involves using your logs for Firemaking, or members can use them to fletch items.

To chop down a tree, just click on one and select ‘Chop down tree’. If you have a hatchet in your inventory and a sufficient Woodcutting level, you will attempt to chop down the tree. Although Woodcutting is not a members’ skill, some items that can be cut using this skill require member status.

This symbol indicates the location of the rarer trees on your maps.

Tools

Woodcutters need to be familiar with the tools of their trade. In RuneScape there are two types of tools used.

The most common Woodcutting tool is the hatchet. The other tool for this purpose is the machete. Hatchets are used to chop down the different types of trees found throughout RuneScape, whereas machetes are used to hack away at light, medium and dense jungle mainly during the Tai Bwo Wannai Clean-Up.

Note: The better the quality of your Woodcutting hatchet or machete, the quicker you will be able to cut logs from trees, this also applies to the dragon hatchet, which has a faster Woodcutting speed than rune hatchets.

Machetes - Members Only

Machetes can be obtained in either of the following ways:

Bought from Gabooty using the local currency, trading sticks.

They can be made if you bring the raw materials to Safta Doctor. He will make the machete for a lower price than Gabooty.

Normal machetes can be obtained from the following places:

You can buy it from the store north west of Tai Bwo Wanna.

You can buy it from the store in Shilo Village.

Hunter - Falconry (Level 43+)

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Uncategorized

Elegant masters of the air, falcons have been tamed in some corners of the RuneScape world for the purpose of sport and hunting. Often used by wealthy merchants on their trips near the Piscatoris Fishing Colony, these beautiful birds of prey will bring down even the speediest of kebbit.

To have a go with the falcon, you will need to pay its owner for the privilege. Matthias, the falconry area owner near Piscatoris, will let you have a go for a princely 500gp, for as long a period as you feel necessary. You will also need to be level 43 or higher in Hunter to be trusted with his falcons.

When holding the bird, left-click on one of the kebbits to the north of its enclosure to cause the falcon to fly speedily towards it and hold it down with its talons. A swift walk to the falcon and downed kebbit will produce pelts that can be used to create lightweight clothing for furthering non-Hunter skills.

Falconry Locations

This way to the falconry area Matthias and his falconry area lie far away from the bustling centres of RuneScape, past the Gnome Stronghold and near the Piscatoris Hunter Area. His prized falcons are available for a price, and only to those he feels are skilled enough to handle them - which is level 43 in the Hunter skill. None may take his falcons from the falconry area, however.

This will restore them fully, although you must have a Crafting level of 64 to repair gloves of silence.

Hunter - Box Trapping (Level 27+)

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Uncategorized

Box Trapping

Setting a box trap in the undergrowth Box trapping is perfect for trapping small creatures alive, and suits those animals that could be useful to you. This method allows you to trap ferrets, penguins, pawya, grenwalls and the notorious chinchompa; a critter that can be later used as a form of ranged explosive.

To begin, you must first buy a box trap from a Hunter store. Next, you have a simple choice: complete the Eagles’ Peak quest, which will allow you to trap ferrets at level 27, or raise your level to 53 and trap chinchompas.

When box trapping, the first task is to lay the box near a clutch of box trap animals and then open it up, ready for catching the chosen creature. It is wise not to lay the trap and move away quickly, as the trap will not be properly set. Once opened it is possible to bait the trap - chinchompas love spicy mincemeat and spicy tomato (see Hunter - FAQ for how to make these dishes) the ferret loves raw meat, pawya adore papaya and the grenwall enjoys little more than raw pawya - and move away, awaiting the curious creature to walk inside.

It is advised that you visit the Piscatoris Hunter area to start box trapping - if doing so without completing Eagles’ Peak - as the chinchompa here are of a lower level than the red chinchompa of the Feldip Jungle.

This trap can be smoked with a torch to remove your scent, increasing your chance of success when box trapping. To do so you will need a torch, bought from the Hunter stores of Yanille and Nardah, and a Hunter level of 39 or above. Lighting the torch and using it on a set-up box trap will greatly increase the chance of snagging yourself a reward.

Additionally, being camouflaged will help to remove your scent and make you blend in to your surroundings; when in the correct area, of course. Wearing suitable camouflage gear, garnered from the fur of tracking and pitfall creatures and made into costume sets by the fancy dress shop owner in Varrock, will make it more likely that you are successful when box trapping. A complete set of the suitable gear (woodland camo-top and camo-trousers when in woodland, for example) will increase those chances even further. Note, though, that the pawya and grenwall are suffused with the magic of Isafdar and, as such, see through such simple ruses as camouflage.

A warning before you embark on box trapping adventures, though; attack the chinchompa at your peril! Once the killing blow has been dealt then the chinchompa will explode, causing you damage.

Only so many box traps can be laid at one point, depending on your Hunter level:

Hunter level Maximum Traps
27 - 39 Two traps at a time
40 - 59 Three traps at a time
60 - 79 Four traps at a time
80 - 99 Five traps at a time

If you have reached your maximum number of traps then one will have to be dismantled before another can be laid. It is also possible to wait for a trap to dismantle itself, which will happen after a length of time.

Box Trapping Locations

For maps and detailed locations of the tracking creatures for Hunter, visit the Hunter - Locations page.

Box trap creatures can be found at the following Hunter areas around RuneScape: the chinchompa and the ferret at the Piscatoris Hunter area, just north of the Gnome Stronghold; the red chinchompa in the Feldip Jungle, just south of the Feldip Hills and Gu’Tanoth; and the pawya and grenwall in a variety of locations around Isafdar.

It is also possible to use the Herblore Habitat of Karamja to trap jadinkos using the marasamaw plant trap: a naturally growing box trap. To trap these creatures, you will need to first attract them to the ecosystem, which will require a high Farming level.

Level Ranged Bonus Location

Chinchompa 45 + 45 Woodland Hunting Training Area

Red chinchompa 55 + 70 Jungle Hunting Training Area

The chinchompas have three different attack styles: short, medium and long. These determine the length of fuse, so a ‘long fuse’ attack style will have more chance of success at long distances, and so forth. This makes using the chinchompa quite a tactical choice, with a user having to shift attack styles according to their approach.

The ferret, lithe and vicious, is an ideal and reusable Hunter aid for snaring rabbits. It is best to use the ferret on a rabbit hole with a rabbit snare laid in anticipation.

Pawya meat can be used to trap grenwalls. Aside from the hefty experience earned by catching these wary creatures, the spikes that grenwalls drop can be used with feathers to make headless arrows. Pawya are also known to occasionally drop papaya seeds, and grenwalls sometimes drop a variety of herbs or pawya meat.

Hunter - Deadfall (Level 23+)

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Uncategorized

The deadfall trap uses a well-propped boulder to catch a creature. This method can only be used on particularly stupid targets, and as such, are only available for use on particularly stupid kebbits. Penguins, which can be caught after completing Hunt for Red Raktuber, are smarter than kebbits, and will nimbly dodge out of the way, avoiding death but trapping a foot.

You can ‘Set-trap boulder’ while holding any form of log and a knife in your inventory. Propping the boulder will cause you to lose your log (dismantling the trap will not get the log back).

It is then time to step as far away from the trap as possible, perhaps even standing behind an obstacle to get optimum effects. Any creature that knocks the prop will have an unfortunate demise (except for penguins, as noted above), leaving rewards for your use.

Deadfall prey will be drawn to the trap by specific baits. See below in the creature’s table to see what bait suits which kebbit.

This trap can be smoked with a torch to remove your scent, increasing your chance of success when deadfalling. To do so you will need a torch, bought from the Hunter stores of Yanille and Nardah, and a Hunter level of 39 or above. Lighting the torch and using it on a set-up deadfall trap will greatly increase the chance of snagging yourself a reward.

Additionally, being camouflaged will help to remove your scent and make you blend in to your surroundings; when in the correct area, of course. Wearing suitable camouflage gear, garnered from the fur of tracking and pitfall creatures and made into costume sets by the fancy dress shop owner in Varrock, will make it more likely that you are successful when deadfalling. Deadfall Locations

For maps and detailed locations of the deadfall creatures for Hunter, visit the Hunter - Locations page.

Deadfall creatures can be found at the following Hunter areas around RuneScape: sabretooth kebbit at the Rellekka and Trollweiss Hunter area, north of Rellekka; the wild and prickly kebbit at the Piscatoris Hunter area, just north of the Gnome Stronghold; and the barbtailed kebbit in the Feldip Jungle, just south of the Feldip Hills and Gu’Tanoth. The penguin can only be tracked if you have completed Hunt for Red Raktuber, and only on the Iceberg Hunter area.

Deadfall creature Rewards

The kebbit rewards that you get from deadfalling have a variety of uses, all of which can help train your other skills.

The wild kebbit provides kebbit claws which can be used, with level 32 Crafting, to make spiked vambraces. These give a slight +2 bonus to your Strength, but can only be added to leather and dragonhide vambraces.

The barbtailed kebbit will provide a barbtailed harpoon which can be wielded, meaning that fishers can free up one more inventory space for their harpooned catches!

The prickly kebbit provides spikes to be made into kebbit bolts for use with the Hunters’ crossbow. These bolts cannot be poisoned or enchanted, but are invaluable as the only ammunition for the Hunters’ crossbow. See the Hunter - Extra Features page for more information about the Hunters’ crossbow.

The sabretooth kebbit provides kebbit teeth, which can be crushed using a pestle and mortar to make kebbit teeth dust, which in turn can be mixed with avantoe to make a Hunters’ potion.

In not-so-recent times, Azaz conducted a successful project to define an often misunderstood group of users, administrators. A project to define an even more “mysterious” group of users, bureaucrats, is currently being conducted by Liquidhelium. I believe that our community would benefit from understanding what a real anonymous user is; not just a vandal, but a niche of editors that many of us - especially our newer editors - do not know about.

Runescape Money making guide 2010

Posted by: cow  //  Category: Uncategorized

There are in fact a lot of ways to make money on Runescape as a F2P account, but many of them are time-consuming to be able to start doing, below I’ve listed skills and tactics to be able to make runescape money.

Combat

Fighting high level enemies means you can get high value drop, my personal favourite is the cockroach soldier in the stronghold of security, but I recommend being around level 70 with food. Cockroach soldiers drop quite a few rune items which are worth a fair amount, e.g. Rune scimitars which sell for around 35k on the Grand Exchange.

Other good enemies to kill are Lesser Demons (Found on Karamja), which occasionally drop Rune med helms which give around 10k with high alchemy,  Ankou (Found in stronghold of security) and Greater Demons (Found in deep wilderness). Another weaker alternative is to kill Hill Giants, which always drops big bones which can be collected and sold for quite a lot of money.

I would highly recommend Cockroach Soldiers though but you need to be a high level to kill them.

Mining

This is a very profitable skill, especially when you reach coal or better yet, level 60 mining which allows you entry to the mining guild which also has 5 mithril ore deposits which can also be mined for profit. This becomes even more profitable after reaching adamantite ore and it sky-rockets once you reach runite ore which sells for around 12k each. Sadly the only place to mine runite ore is deep into the wilderness and there is only one rock, so many miners world hop because it takes a long time to respawn.

Smithing

This is profitable at most levels as long as you’ve mined the ores yourself, otherwise at low levels isn’t very profitable. At higher levels it becomes much more profitable and again, reaching rune will definitely help you as many items are still in heavy demand.

A good tactic I’ve been using lately to make upwards of 200k an hour is to buy nature runes, mithril and coal ores on the Grand Exchange and with a fire staff, use superheat item (requires magic level 43) and make mithril bars, this provides an easy profit whilst also gaining you both smithing and magic experience.

Fishing

I personally find it very hard to make a profit whilst fishing but it is easily achievable by selling lobsters (cooked or raw) and swordfish (again cooked or raw), this is rather time consuming but is best done on Karamja. Personally I sell them raw as it saves time and reduces the risk of burning a fish and therefore not being able

to sell it.

Cooking

A good method for this is to get level 55 cooking and buying plain pizzas and anchovies off the grand exchange and then using them to make anchovy pizzas which sell to make an easy profit on the grand exchange. This is a fast method to make money without having to do much at all.

If you need to get your cooking level up, a good method is to buy raw trout in bulk from the grand exchange, and then cook them to get cooking experience, when you sell them back you make a very small loss, around 1-2 gold for each trout but this money is made back easily by making anchovy pizzas.

Magic

(Look at smelting for tips on how to use superheat item for profit.)

Another method is to use telekinetic grab (telegrab) (which requires magic level 33) on the Wine of Zamorak found north of Falador, the best way to do this is with a staff of air and 28 law runes, when you have 27 wines, drop one and use telegrab then you should have no law runes and should be able to pick up the one you dropped on the floor.

To level magic quickly, get rune essence (either buy it or mine it) and login to world 16 and go to the air altar and find someone to assist you who can do 6x air runes (the higher the better), buy a fire staff and collect mind runes from Lumbridge castle and finally auto-cast fire strike on the lesser demon in the Mage Tower for easy experience.

Runecrafting

This only becomes profitable after level 44 when you can get 5x air runes, buy (or mine) rune essence and take it to the Grand Exchange, then just make continuous runs from Varrock West Bank to the air altar and get a lot of air runes and sell them back on the Grand Exchange.

If you don’t want to spend so long on getting a high runecrafting, then be a runner instead, go on to world 16 and go to the air altar and find someone to assist you who can do 6x air runes (the higher the better) and simply sell the air runes.

Woodcutting

Train until you can cut down yew logs, this takes a long time but can yield high profits, so stick with it as it is usually worth it – that’s all there is to woodcutting really.

Other Tips

When buying and selling, make sure you log how much you buy and for what prices. It’s very easy to make a loss when you’re not watching prices properly and it can be very hard to make back the money you lose.

Always look for a bargain, if someone offers you a good trade, take it and then sell the item for its normal price, it’s easy to tell if you are getting a good deal by looking at the wealth meter during trades or by looking at an items grand exchange price.

Runescape - Area Guides - Cities and Towns - Seers’ Village (Members)

Posted by: cow  //  Category: Uncategorized

The Seers’ Village is a small town that was originally settled by a number of people with a particular gift for seeing the future. There are still a few of them around, but they’re a bit of a minority. You can always tell them by their white clothes and hair.

The town also plays host to Camelot, which has settled in RuneScape while it waits for its glorious return to England. In the meantime, the Knights of the Round Table are happy to wander about the grounds while they wait for a quest.

Location

A map of Seers’ Village

The Seers’ Village lies on the narrow strip of land that connects Kandarin to Asgarnia, and Kandarin to the Fremennik Province.

The capital of Kandarin, East Ardougne and West Ardougne, lies far to the south-west of the Seers’ Village.

To the north, beyond Sinclair Mansion, is Rellekka, home town of the Fremennik people.

Just east lies Catherby, and to the west, past the Baxtorian Waterfall, is the Tree Gnome Stronghold.

Points of Interest

Seers’ Village’s points of interest

The Seers’ Village is made for Fletching. There are a wide range of trees around the village, and a flax field. Combined with this, there is a spinning wheel upstairs in the seers’ house. Pacing up and down the main street is a Town Crier, who is more than happy to explain the Rules of Conduct and the role of Player Moderators.

There is also Camelot, an impressive castle filled with noble and chivalrous knights, as well as King Arthur and Merlin the wizard. If you have completed King’s Ransom, you will have access to the knights’ training room at the top of the castle.

Coal can also be brought to the village from a mine beyond McGrubor’s Wood by using the coal trucks.

Personalities

King Arthur
King Arthur is the legendary king of England who, since retiring from ruling the nation and questing for the Holy Grail, has decided to settle in RuneScape. He is the very symbol of honour and chivalry.

Merlin
Merlin was once the most powerful wizard in the world, but his powers have been greatly weakened by his clashes with Arthur’s half-sister, Morgan le Faye. He is now imprisoned in a giant crystal, unable to aid King Arthur or the knights.
King Arthur can be found in Camelot, pacing around the Round Table.   Merlin can be found in the top of the south-east tower of Camelot.
Sir Lancelot
Where would Arthur be without Lancelot, his most skilled knight? Possibly in better shape, as it was Lancelot that wooed Guinevere away from Arthur, leading to the King having a son, Mordred, with Morgan. Lancelot is a powerful knight, though, and Arthur is lucky to have his loyalty.

Sir Kay
Before Arthur was recognised as King of England, he lived with Sir Kay’s family and worked as Kay’s squire. Kay wasn’t particularly nice to Arthur then, but when Arthur was announced to be the true king of England, Kay was among the first to declare his loyalty.
Lancelot can be found on the first floor of Camelot.   Sir Kay can be found in Camelot’s courtyard.
Sir Gawain
When the Green Knight came upon Sir Gawain he instructed Gawain to kill him with a single blow, which he did. The Green Knight, however, could not be killed so easily, and a year later Gawain had to return the favour. Luckily for Gawain, he was wearing a magic girdle that protected him.

Sir Lucan
Sir Lucan is one of King Arthur’s most devoted knights. His devotion is such that, should King Arthur ever require it, he would gladly lay down his life.
Sir Gawain can be found near the Round Table.   Sir Lucan can be found near the Round Table.
Sir Palomedes
Sir Palomedes is most famous for hunting the Questing Beast, a vile creature with the head of a serpent, the body of a leopard, the back legs of a lion, and the hooves of a hart. The Questing Beast nearly defeated Sir Palomedes, but his strength and skill saved him in the end.

Sir Tristram
Sir Tristram first came to Camelot having already defeated Sir Palomedes in a joust, and before he was admitted to the Round Table he also knocked Arthur from his horse in another joust. Sir Tristram is probably the finest jouster in the court, perhaps equalled by Sir Lancelot.
Sir Palomedes can be found near the Round Table.   Sir Tristram can be found on the first floor of Camelot.
Sir Pelleas
Sir Pelleas was a bit of an unfortunate figure during his time in England. He fell in love with a woman who did not like him, and then was enchanted to fall in love with a sorceress. Now that he is in RuneScape, he is freed from such nastiness.

Sir Bedivere
Sir Bedivere is King Arthur’s oldest knight, and has aided him on more than one occasion. Together they slew the Giant of Mont St Michel, and it was Bedivere that returned the sword Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake.
Sir Pelleas can be found on the first floor of Camelot.   Sir Bedivere can be found on the first floor of Camelot.
The Poison Salesman
The Poison Salesman aims to eventually be able to sell his poisons and other concoctions across RuneScape. His main method of salesmanship, though, seems to be his red hair and giving his products long names like ‘Peter Potter’s Patented Multipurpose Poison’.

Phantuwti Fanstuwi Farsight
Despite having an almost unpronounceable name, Phantuwti Fanstuwi Farsight is the leader of the Seers. This must mean that he is full of wisdom, but it’s difficult to prove.
The Poison Salesman can be found either in the town tavern, or at the road junction heading north from the Seers’ Village.   Phantuwti Fanstuwi Farsight can be found in the seers’ house, south of the tavern

Go to Falador Park and talk to Sir Tiffy Cashien. He will ask you to go and talk to Sir Amik Varze, to have him deputise you. Go to the White Knight’s Castle, which is just to the Southeast of the Rising Sun Inn Pub, over the bridge. You will find Sir Amik Varze on the West side of the 2nd floor. Sir Amik asks you to be his squire. Refuse this and ask him if he can deputise you instead and he will accept. Ask him if there are any jobs available. He will say no, because there isn’t any crisis at the moment. Go back to Sir Tiffy. Sir Tiffy will tell you about a crisis that’s starting to take shape. He will also tell you about a dangerous criminal, and asks you to go back to Sir Amik. Sir Amik will tell you that Evil Solus Dellagar has returned, and will ask for your help. Accept and he will fully deputise you into the White Knights Order. Go back to Sir Tiffy Cashien. Sir Tiffy will now give you a Communications Orb. You can either bring him a law rune, a slayer gem and some molten glass (To make molten glass, you’ll need some seaweed, a bucket, some sand, and access to a range and a furnace. Refer to our Crafting Guide for more information) and he will make one for you, or you can buy one from him for 10,000 gold coins. When you have your orb, right-click on it and to contact Savant. Ask her about your assignment. Then right click your Orb once more, and watch the two recordings Savant has provided you. Once you have finished watching the two recordings, head out to the Taverley Dungeon to the Black Knight Headquarters. At the Black Knight Headquarters, talk to Lord Daquarius. He won’t tell you anything. Kill some of the black knights around him, and after a while he’ll have no choice but to talk to you. After talking to him a second time, you’ll see that you can’t get any more information from him. Now you’ll need to find the Mage of Zamorak. Make your way to the level 3 - 5 Wilderness just North of Edgeville, and talk to the Mage of Zamorak there. If he tells you not to bother him, take off all god clothes and armour you are wearing. He’ll tell you to meet him at the Chaos Temple in Varrock. Now teleport or walk to Varrock, and go the the temple located in the Southeast corner of the city. Talk to the mage of Zamorak at the temple. He says he will give you information in exchange for 20 rune essences. Bring him 20 essences and he will give you some information. If you haven’t talked to him before, you have to do the Abyss minigame. He will tell you that Solus Dellagar has moved to the East from his location. After getting his information your character knows where Solus is. You will now know that Solus Dellagar is in Canifis. Walk to Canifis, or use your ectophial to get there quickly. When you enter Canifis, Savant will talk to you about Slow Teleporting, and will tell you to scan in Canfis. When you scan using the “Scan“ option on your Communications Orb, you will be shown a recording involving Solus. Savant will then retrieve an item from the slow teleport. The item will be one of twelve possible items, and the item will give you a hint about where you need to go next. See the list below to match your item with Solus’ location. Each time you get to a new location, you will have to scan to get the next item and the corresponding location. Before scanning, make sure you have one free inventory space.
