Trade margin increase

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Runescape Community

From today we have doubled (in some cases tripled) the flexibility of the player trade system. All players will notice an increase in the amount they can trade with other players.

This means accounts with fewer than 10 quest points will be able to earn or lose up to 5,000 coins in wealth every 15 minutes from trading, free players will be able to earn a maximum of 10,000 coins every 15 minutes by completing the free quests and members will have access to a maximum of 60,000 coins per 15 minutes if they have 270 quest points. Your trade margin will increase with each quest point after 10 - for example, at 100 quest points you’ll have a margin of 24,038 coins, and at 200 quest points you’ll have a margin of 45,192 coins.

This was added to the game because we wanted to offer our players more flexibility when trading or helping friends out, without increasing the threat of real-world trading.

Lead Designer - RuneScape

Note: Currently there are only 269 quest points available in the game, so no player will be able to reach the 60,000 coin margin until our next quest update, scheduled for a few weeks’ time. The trade margin does scale up to that, though, so players a few quest points short of 270 will have a trade margin only slightly below it.

Doric’s Quest

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Runescape Quests

Start: Speak with Doric by following the Northern road leaving Falador.
Skills: None!
Quests: None!
What You Need: 6 Clay, 4 Copper ores and 2 Iron ores.

Scroll down to the end of the guide to find a ‘Fast Quest Walkthrough’.

——————————————————————————–

Getting Started

To start this quest, first speak to Doric, the friendly Dwarf located in a small house North of Falador. Ask him if you can use his anvils, and he says that he will let you use them if you get some things for him. He needs 6 Clay, 4 Copper ores and 2 Iron ores.

Getting the Ores

Each of the required materials that Doric needs can be mined from the Dwarven Mines, a short distance from where this quest begins. If you aren’t a high enough level to mine Iron, you can either buy the ores from the Drogo Dwarf’s Mining Shop in the mines, or trade them from other players.

The shop is to the east when you first enter the mines, and you can buy iron for around 1gp each. The shop will also sell copper in small amounts, so it’s best to mine the ores yourself. Once you’ve got all of the needed ores, just head back to Doric, give him the ores and you’re finished the quest.

Rewards

180 coins
1,300 Mining experience
You can now smith items on Doric’s anvils.

The Fremennik Trials

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

The council would like to inform our citizens that our recent restoration work on the footpath leading to the Barbarian town of Rellekka, North-west of Sinclair Mansion, has now been completed.
Those traders and adventurers who have been seeking access to this (slightly backwards) region of RuneScape may now do so using the provided footbridge.
The council would also like to make it’s citizens aware that this large barbarian town has its own laws and customs, and those seeking fortune in these strange lands may be required to first prove their worth in The Fremennik Trials.

Extra Clues and Clue Rewards
We have introduced more clues into the mix of random clues. Those who know most of the answers will now have new challenges.
Due to the bigger variety of clues, we have also added some new treasure trail rewards for people to find.

Happy treasure hunting!

The Flamtaer Hammer

We have introduced a new hammer into the game which should help you with your temple building in Mort’ton.
This can be bought from Razmire for 10,000 coins.
You’ll need slightly less people to build your temples if you have the hammer. You will still need a team, and that team can still be smaller if you have a higher crafting level, but the numbers of people you need at lower levels will be less.

This we hope will address problems we may have in the future, when the update isn’t so new and less people will be in the area because they are trying out other new updates.
We have also changed the rewards you get from the chests in this area.
Amongst other things there has been a small increase in the chance of getting cloth.

Music Looping

We now have an extra button on the music interface. Click the loop button, and the tune you are listening to will start again when it ends.

Potion Emptying

Potions now have a right click “empty” option on them, so if you need the vials you don’t have to spend a long time drinking potions to empty them.

Money making guide/Prayer

Effectiveness Level requirement Details Other requirements
***** Level 1 Players can buy unblessed symbols at the Grand Exchange for 40 coins each. If they have completed the Observatory Quest, they can also have their unblessed unholy symbols blessed by the spirit of Scorpius, turning them into Unholy symbols. Completion of Observatory quest
***** Level 40 Climb up the tower in the ranging guild and turn on protect from ranged. Collect the arrows they shoot. Go to the side with the higher levelled archers for better arrows. Ranged level of 40; access to Rangers’ Guild
***** Level 31 Players can buy unblessed holy symbols at the Grand Exchange for 40 coins each. Unblessed holy symbols can be blessed by Brother Jered in the monastery, turning them into Holy symbols. Access to Monastery
***** Level 50 You can buy the Unblessed symbol in the Grand Exchange for 40 coins each. You will need an Unholy book for unholy symbols or a Holy book for holy symbols (The Book of balance can bless either symbol), an inventory of unblessed or unpowered symbols, a minimum of 4 prayer points, and an altar close to a bank (Some places with altars near banks include Ardougne, Varrock, or a Player-owned house in Yanille. You will need the altar to recharge your prayer as each blessing takes at least 4 prayer points to bless. The use of prayer potions would cost more than profit made from blessing the symbols. This will give you a profit of 89 for a Holy symbol and 159 for an Unholy symbol. Completion of Horror from the Deep
***** Recommended Level 60 You can use the ability of the blessed silver sickle from your worn equipment tab next to logs in Mort Myre Swamp and then pick up the fungi that appear on the log. These can be sold for 1,502 each. It is recommended to use teleport to house tabs if you have an altar and a Kharyll teleport (must have done Desert Treasure quest) in your Player Owned House. However if you do not have an altar, teleport to Kharyll and/or have level 60 prayer, bring a prayer potion — although prayer potions bring down the profit of this if you buy them off the Grand Exchange. Alternatively, you can recharge your prayer points at the altar in the Nature Spirit grotto. Using prayer potions it is possible to make up to 450,000 coins per hour at the current price for the mushrooms (1,502 coins each). Completion of Priest in Peril

Effectiveness Mining level requirement Details Risk factors Other requirements
*****
110,000
Level 1(30) Mining rune/pure essence
You can mine rune essence at level 1 mining or pure essence at level 30 mining and sell it for around 94 coins each for rune essence or 136 for pure essence (sometimes you need to drop the price a little bit to get it to sell in the Grand Exchange). Essences mine quickly; it usually takes less than a minute to fill an inventory, and then another minute or so is needed to get the mined essence to a bank and return to the mine for another load. For fast banking it is recommended that you use Aubury in Varrock to get to the essence mines and deposit each load of runes in the bank which is just north of his shop. Members with 66 Magic can instead go to Wizard Distentor at the Wizards’ Guild in Yanille, which is closer to a bank.
  Rune Mysteries completed.
*****
73,000
Level 1 Mining clay
In the West Varrock Mine, in the Dwarven Mine, or near the Crafting Guild, you can mine clay, which sells for 163 coins each. You can wear a bracelet of clay, which automatically converts mined clay into soft clay. Soft clay sells for 301 coins each.
  • Level 6 Mugger in the mine south-west of Varrock
  • King Scorpions if you enter the Dwarven Mine from the Falador entrance
  • If a player with a higher mining level is also mining the clay, you may not be able to get any
Crafting level of 40 to enter the Crafting Guild
*****
34,000
Level 20 Mining silver
Silver ore sells for 308 coins each, and is found in accessible locations. The best is the West Varrock Mine due to its proximity to a bank, but the Al Kharid mine is also available. Unfortunately, silver ore rocks only respawn every 2 minutes, which means a lot of time standing around waiting for the ore to become available for mining, which greatly reduces the profit per hour.
  • If a player with a higher mining level is also mining the silver ore, you may not be able to get any
  • Level 14 scorpions in the Al Kharid mine
  • Level 6 mugger in the West Varrock Mine

*****
48,000
Level 20 Mining silver (crafting guild)
There are twice as many silver rocks at the crafting guild as at the West Varrock Mine or Al Kharid mine, meaning the mining goes quicker, but its distance from a bank means the final profit is reduced.
  • If a player with a higher mining level is also mining the silver ore, you may not be able to get any
Crafting level 40
*****
43,000
Level 30 Mining coal
At this level you can mine coal and sell it for 266 coins each. Players can use the coal trucks west of Seers’ Village for more efficient mining. At the coal trucks your profit is about 108k an hour assuming you get a single coal ore in 5 seconds and later on sell the coal for 180gp a piece. The Seer’s headbands will increase the amount Stankers will allow in the coal trucks.
  • If a player with a higher mining level is also mining the coal, you may not be able to get any
Seer’s headband 1-3(optional)
*****
18,000
Level 40 Mining gold
You can mine gold ore in the Dwarven Mines, the Rimmington Mine, or in the Al-Kharid mine (each mine has 2 gold rocks). Gold ore sells for 319 coins each. However, this method is not very effective because of the slow respawn rate of gold (approx. 2 minutes). The player can also mine at the Arzinian Mine which has one-hundred and forty-six rocks. A nearby Dwarven boatman, east of the mine entrance, banks the player’s gold ore for a charge of 20% of the gold ores, rounded up. You can also mine at northwest Karamja near Brimhaven, Tzhaar City, and the mine under the Grand Tree (Grand Tree quest required). If you have completed the Forgiveness of a Chaos Dwarf quest, you can mine gold at the North Keldagrim mining area.
  • If a player with a higher mining level is also mining the gold, you may not be able to get any
  • Level 14 scorpions in the Al Kharid mine
  • King Scorpions in the Dwarven Mine
*Gold helmet

  • Ring of charos(a)

*****
29,000
Level 40 Mining gold (Karamja/Crandor)
Although Crandor island and the Karamja volcano would seem to be a good location for members as you can go through to tzhaar city and bank there.

  • If a player with a higher mining level is also mining the gold, you may not be able to get any
90 gold (for the boat); must have reached Crandor island on the Dragon slayer quest.
***** Level 40 Mining Gems (Shilo Village)
This is a very crowded place but you can still make a lot of money. You can get very bad gems like uncut opals, and you can get things like uncut emeralds, rubies, and diamonds which go for about 5k, 7k and 15k respectively. You can get about 200k-400k depending on your luck.
***** Level 55 Mining mithril
Mithril ore sells for 316 coins each, but supply is very limited for non-members. The Mining Guild contains 5 mithril rocks (but requires 60 Mining), and mining from mithril rocks in the Wilderness or Lumbridge Swamp is also possible. There are 3 mithril rocks at the Al Kharid mining area, and there is also mithril on Crandor, although the distance and the presence of aggressive monsters does not make it a convenient place to mine.

***** Level 60 Mining coal (Mining Guild)
Once you can enter the Mining Guild, coal mining speeds up noticeably as there are many coal rocks inside the Guild and the Guild is very close to the eastern bank in Falador.
***** Level 70 Mining adamantite
Adamantite ore sells for 1,131 each and can be found in the Hobgoblin Mine (level 34-37 Wilderness), the west Lumbridge Swamp mines, Crandor, or the Grand Tree mine (members). If you mine in the Wilderness mine, also note that it is a common place at which to find revenants. Do not pass through the Bandit Camp on your way to or from the mine. At First this seems very profitable but with the amount of time to switch worlds or waiting for the ore to re spawn it greatly decreases in profit per hour.Members who have started “The Fremmnik Isles” quest can mine the 11 rocks in the Jatizso mine. These mines are never taken, and can be freely mined on populated worlds without ever catching up to yourself. (tested with lvl 70 mining and a dragon pick on world 2)Also this mine is close to a bankMoney/ore amount scale:

  • 15 Adamantite ore= 16965 coins.
  • 28 Adamantite ore= 31668 coins.
  • 50 Adamantite ore= 56550 coins.
***** Level 77 Concentrated Coal
Coal ore may not be worth much, but you can mine a huge amount of it at the Living Rock Caverns. Refer to below (concentrated gold) for more information (besides money made). This ore is a logical precursor to concentrated gold. Mining it is slightly worse than granite for xp/hour, but you don’t have to drop it, so you make money.
***** Level 80 Concentrated gold
Gold ore may not be worth much, but you can mine a huge amount of it at the Living Rock Caverns. You can make anywhere from 100-200k per hour depending on if you’re using a rune or dragon pickaxe, and if you’re using a summon or not. World 84 has a network of players mining, fishing, and killing rock monsters, so you’re less likely to die there. The experience is also on-par with granite, so this is a great place for xp, cash, or smithing/crafting materials.
Very dangerous for low level players, level 120, 140 and 200 monsters are here
***** Level 85 Mining runite
Runite ore is the most expensive ore in the game, at 17,100 coins each. It is only found in a few locations, including a few rocks in deep Wilderness. This is the only runite location available to free players. The amount of time it takes runite to respawn is dependent on world population; it will spawn quicker on more-populated worlds. Most players who mine runite tend to switch worlds rather than wait for the ore to respawn. Again this is the same as with Adamantite ore. The amount of time world hopping and waiting decreases the profit per hour.Money/ore amount scale:

  • 15 Runite ore= 256500 coins.
  • 28 Runite ore= 478800 coins.
  • 50 Runite ore= 855000 coins.

***** Level 4+ Buy 10 opal bolts off the ge for 14 each, a cosmic rune for 87 (you will only need 1 cosmic rune for every 10 bolts enchanted) and a staff of air for 893. The higher your mage level, the better bolts you can enchant and in turn making more profit.
***** Level 7 Buy sapphire necklaces for 3,756 coins, cosmic runes for 87 coins each, and a water staff, which costs 839 coins. Enchant the sapphire necklaces and sell them for 3,937 coins, pocketing the difference. This is much more effective if you start out with a bit of cash. Non-members can do the same with Sapphire amulets, making Amulets of Magic. However, this will make less profit.
***** Level 25-58+ Teletabs can be made and sold for both magic experience and profit, provided you have access to a lectern. You can visit a friend’s lectern also. A dedicated world for house parties is currently World 31. The different teletabs you can make depends on your Magic level and the type of lectern you use. Assuming all materials are purchased (including runes and soft clay), each teletab gives the following profit: Varrock Teleport (372 coins), Lumbridge Teleport (432 coins) Falador Teleport (415 coins), Camelot Teleport which is the best way to make money with theis methode (262 coins), Ardougne Teleport (229 coins), and House Teleport (586 coins). In general, it is possible to craft about 900 teletabs per hour if a butler is helping you. 40 Construction (less if you have tea)
***** Level 33+ The Mage Training Arena is a decent place at which to train Magic for profit. Though cost of runes to earn points may seem high, infinity robes sell for high amounts of coins, ultimately resulting in profit. The best things to buy are the infinity boots and the mage’s book. This proves to be an extremely good source of money for those who can do this minigame for a long time, averaging up to 500K per hour.
***** Level 65+ Killing iron or steel dragons can be a very good profit maker as they both drop the draconic visage! High defence will help.
***** Level 68+ Humidify fills vessels in the players inventory with water. It can make up to 100k coins per hour. Dream Mentor and Lunar Diplomacy
*****
240,000
Level 77+ Casting Superglass Make can be very profitable. Each cast converts all pairs of buckets of sand and seaweed in your inventory to approximately 1.33 molten glass per set. Each cast uses 2 astral runes, 10 air runes and 6 fire runes. The most efficient inventory is to use an air rune-supplying staff and have astral and fire runes in your inventory, along with 13 buckets of sand and 13 seaweed. You can complete upwards of 200 casts per hour this way.If you follow the alternate method here, you can roughly double the amount of casts per hour.Note: The amount of glass obtained per inventory can vary significantly (between 13 (a 1:1 ratio) and 22 (a 1:1.7 ratio)), so be aware as your profit may vary. Requires Lunar Diplomacy.

Money making guide/Fishing

Effectiveness Fishing level requirement Details Other requirements/fishing equipment
***** Level 5 Sardines sell for about 34 coins each if raw, and around 4 coins when cooked. These can be fished from the Catherby shore, the southern shore of Al-Kharid, and Draynor Village.
***** level 10 Herring sells for about 42 coins each if raw, and around 14 coins when cooked. However while fishing these sardines are also caught, worth half as much. These are fished in the same spots as sardines.
***** Level 15 Catch anchovies in the same spot as herring and sardine with a small net. Anchovies sell for about 60 coins each, while the cooked versions sell for 59 coins each. Shrimp is adviseably dropped being worth much less than anchovies.
***** Level 35 Tuna can be caught at level 35 fishing in either Catherby or the Fishing Guild. . They sell for 146 when cooked, and 170 when raw. Also the higher your agility the more chance you have of catching two Tuna at a time.
***** Level 38 At this level, cave eel are caught in the same spots as slimy eel. Raw cave eels sell for 437 coins each, while cooked they sell for 222.
***** Level 40 Fishing lobsters is a popular way to make money for both free-to-play members and lower level pay-to-play members. There are two popular places to catch them; Karamja or Catherby. Caught at Karamja, bank is quick in TzHaar city, caught in Catherby, Catherby bank is close. One other place is Jatizso. You need to start Fremennik isles quest but it is really close to a bank and is most of the time unpopulated.
***** Level 50 At this level Swordfish may be caught and sold for 575 when cooked and 575 when raw. Tuna, however, is caught with them. Locations include Catherby, Fishing Guild, or Jatizso(completion of The Fremennik Trials required) Also the higher your agility the more chance you have of catching two swordfish at a time.
***** Level 62 Monkfish are found at the Piscatoris Fishing Colony. They tend to be caught faster than sharks, even at high levels, and sell for around 598 coins each when raw, and about 653 coins when cooked. In an hour, 250-320 monkfish are caught, depending on Fishing level. See this monkfish analysis for a breakdown of efficiency. Swan Song completed
***** Level 65 At this level Raw karambwan may be fished, which are worth 640 coins each. Keep in mind that the Karambwan will sometimes steal the bait from the vessel. If this happens often, it lowers profit. Tai Bwo Wannai Trio completed
***** Level 76 At this level sharks may be fished. Sharks are caught fairly slowly even at high levels, so it is advisable not to fish them with a fishing level lower than about 80. Raw sharks sell for around 1,477 coins each, and cooked sharks fetch for about 1,640 coins each. At 95+ Fishing 1,000 sharks are caught in 7 hours or less; on average, only about 150 sharks can be caught in an hour, even with 99 fishing. It is still arguable that this is the best conventional method of making money by fishing except possibly Rocktail fishing. Also the higher your agility the more chance you have of catching two sharks at a time. 80 Cooking (optional)
***** Level 81+ The Fishing Trawler minigame provides Manta rays and/or sea turtles from level 81 if the boat lasts 10 minutes without sinking.  Unlike other fish, cooked sea turtles and manta rays fetch higher prices than their raw counterparts. Cooked manta rays can sell for about 3,387 coins each while cooked sea turtles sell for about 3,029 coins. If the boat doesn’t sink, normally approximately 20 manta rays are acquired, leading to 60,000gp every 10 minutes. This is only if the player is with a good team, the boat not sinking. 91 cooking (optional)
*****150k-200k/hr Level 85 The Living Rock Caverns is an area in the dwarven mines where high level fishers and miners can train their skills. At level 85, you are able to catch a new type of fish - Cavefish. To catch this fish, you will need normal fishing bait and good armour to defend yourself from aggressive high-level rock creatures. A raw cavefish has a market price of 1478 gold pieces and a cooked cavefish sells for 1577 gold pieces. You can gain 40,000-50,000 experience per hour fishing Cavefish and 150,000-200,000 cash. 88 Cooking (optional)
*****250k/hr Level 90 Just like Cavefish, you can catch another high levelled fish in the Living Rock Caverns - Rocktail. To catch this fish, you will need some bait called Living Minerals. The market price of living minerals is currently 265gp (1 April 2010). Again, you will need some good armour to defend yourself from the aggressive living rock creatures. The market price for raw rocktail is 2547gp and the price for cooked rocktail is 2517gp. This is much faster experience per hour than lobsters and monkfish, reaching to 60,000 xp/h maximum. You are able to make over 250,000 gold pieces per hour using this method. 93 Cooking (optional)

Effectiveness Firemaking level requirement Details Other requirements
***** None In some locations where fires are helpful but hard to come by, you can “sell” fires to the players there by bringing a tinderbox and some logs and offering to light a fire for a fee. A common location for this is the fishing spot at Musa Point on Karamja Island in free-to-play worlds, where few regular trees are found and there is no nearby bank.
***** Level 5 Cremating shades in the Shades of Mort’ton minigame not only gives Firemaking experience, but may also yield keys that can be used to get access to many valuable items. These include fine cloth, which sells for 10,100 coins and is used in making splitbark armour. Players with higher level Firemaking can make better profit from this as the higher level shades and pyre logs yield better rewards. Fiyr shades yield rune armour and weapons as well as occasional Level 3 clue scrolls. 40 combat, Shades of Mort’ton quest
***** Level 40 Kill vyrewatches and cremate their corpses (see the Shades of Mort’ton article to learn how to do so). They can only be cremated with teak pyre logs or higher, but cremating vyre corpses yields a Columbarium key, which can be used to get access to many valuable items in the Columbarium, including trimmed rune armour, snapdragon seeds and more. PvP World Changes

Posted by: cow  //  Category: runescape news

Players who enter a PvP or Bounty World will now automatically become skulled and unable to use the Protect Item prayer. The skull will not disappear over time or when a player dies, unless they go to a non-PvP world, in which case the skull behaves like normal. Note that this means you will always lose everything you are carrying if you get killed by another player, and that there is no way for you to keep any items on death while in a PvP or Bounty World.

Additionally, on members’ worlds, your victims must now lose at least 75,000 coins’ worth of items (increased from 25,000) for your earning potential to be applied to the drop. On free-to-play worlds, the amount the victim must lose remains at 25,000 coins.

Please note that you will have to be in a safe area before you can next log into a PvP or Bounty World. You will need to log into a non-PvP/Bounty World in order to move to a safe area. This is to ensure nobody logs in risking more than they are aware of. A message will explain this on login if you try to enter these worlds. This only applies to your next PvP/Bounty World login; from then on, you will be able to log in as normal.
