The Dwarven Mine

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

Dwarves are legendary throughout RuneScape for their mining prowess, so where better to hone your Mining skills than in the Dwarven Mine itself? The Dwarven Mine was created long ago after dwarven prospectors discovered an abundance of essential resources running through the rock. The dwarves are fiercely proud of the cavernous tunnels, and they are still working hard to harvest the ores that remain trapped within the rocks.

Be careful not to get lost in this subterranean labyrinth; there are plenty of creatures in here that are waiting for the chance to catch an unsuspecting adventurer. The mine is populated by dwarf miners that will put up quite a fight if you decide to attack them. The mine is also home to overgrown scorpions that skitter about amongst the mining rocks.

Location

Location of the Dwarven Mine

The Dwarven Mine is situated deep in the ground between Falador and Ice Mountain. There are several entrances to the Dwarven Mine. The mine can be accessed from the north by climbing down the ladder in the southern foothills of Ice Mountain. There are two entrances in Falador; one south of the bank and one east of the Party Room. The other entrance can only be used by those with access to the Mining Guild. Entrance to the guild requires a Mining level of 60.

Points of Interest

Interesting areas of the Dwarven Mine

In the Dwarven Mine, novice miners can train their skills on the tin and copper rocks; crafters can mine clay; more experienced miners can gather iron and coal; while advanced miners can chip away at gold, mithril and adamantite.

In addition to lots and lots of lovely mining rocks, the Dwarven Mine is home to a number of traders that can provide you with essential tools or brutal weapons.

Once you have smelted the ores that you have gathered, you can take them to the Smithing anvil that can be found near the centre of the mine. Simply bring a hammer and your bars and you’re ready to go.

Advanced miners can access the Mining Guild. If you have a Mining level of 60 or above, head down to the most southern part of the mine and enter the guild. The guild gives you access to a host of coal and mithril rocks, with the added bonus of scorpion-free mining. The red dot on the map shows the location of the Mining Guild door, while the green, yellow and blue dots mark the main entrances to the mine itself.

A series of caverns has recently been discovered towards the northern end of the mine – there is a rope climb down to it near to the mine cart tracks. Running ice water from the melting peaks of Ice Mountain has opened up these caverns, which have been closed off for so long that a strange species of living rocks has evolved down there. The caverns offer excellent opportunities for experienced miners (and fishers). Be warned, however, that the living rocks are tough, aggresive and not fond of visitors from above.

Personalities

Nurmof
Nurmof is a purveyor of high quality pickaxes. He can sell you a shiny new pickaxe, from bronze up to rune, and he will also buy any that you no longer require. Nurmof can also repair broken pickaxes, for a fee.

Drogo
Drogo runs the Dwarven Mine’s Mining Emporium. He does a great trade in ores and metal bars, but make sure you treat him with respect. Drogo doesn’t take too kindly to anyone calling him ‘shorty’.
Nurmof can be found in the north-west of the mine, north of the general store dwarf.   Drogo can be found in the north of the mine, in the cave to the east of the Ice Mountain entrance.
Hammerspike Stoutbeard
You don’t want to get on the wrong side of Hammerspike and his gang members. Hammerspike is a ruthless gangster, and has terrible manners.

Boot
Boot received his name due to a childhood habit of sleeping in a large item of footwear. Unsurprisingly for a dwarf, he knows a lot about gold.
Hammerspike can be found in the far west of the mine.   Boot can be found in the west of the mine, in a cave to the west of Hura’s crossbow shop.
Hura
A master crossbow craftsman, Hura is a useful source of knowledge for those who are looking to produce their own crossbow and ammunition. Hura can also sell you some crossbow components to start you on your way.

Cart Conductor
The Cart Conductor is an employee of Keldagrim Carts and he will happily sell you a cart ticket to Keldagrim.
Hura can be found in the west of the mine, in a cave to the south-west of the smithing anvil.   The Cart Conductor can be found in the north-west of the mine, north of the general store.
Quests

There are no quests to start in the Dwarven Mine.

Dangers in the Dark

Scorpion (Level 14)
These over-sized hunters thrive in dark, damp spaces, making the Dwarven Mine an ideal habitat. Low-level players should treat these scorpions with caution. Be sure to bring a weapon with you when you mine.

King Scorpion (Level 32)
King scorpions love nothing more than attacking unsuspecting miners as they attempt to gather precious ore. These super stingers are very aggressive, and guard the higher-level rocks.
The scorpions’ territory covers the area north of the Mining Guild, right up to the most northern coal rocks.   The king scorpions patrol the iron, mithril and adamantite rocks in the area north of the Mining Guild door; and the coal and tin rocks west of the Falador house stairs.
Miscellaneous

  • You can use the carts in Keldagrim to travel to the Dwarven Mine. Buy a ticket from a cart conductor in Keldagrim and select Ice Mountain as your destination.
  • If you have an Agility level of 42, you can take advantage of the shortcut between the two main chambers of the Dwarven Mine.
  • Players with level 15 or 45 Dungeoneering will be able to find mysterious entrances in the Dwarven Mines.

Where is the Wilderness? How can I get there?

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

The Wilderness covers a huge space to the north of RuneScape. To get there from the surface, you will likely travel north from Varrock, Falador or Edgeville, crossing the Wilderness wall that warns players of the dangers ahead. If you accept these dangers, you will jump over the Wilderness wall and enter a small ‘safe haven’ area adjacent to it, where you cannot attack or be attacked by other players. Once past this area, you are in the Wilderness and ready to start player-killing! A skull icon appears on the side of your game screen to note that you are in the Wilderness, and you are given an indication of your Wilderness depth (but more on this later).

Many players cluster and prepare for battle in Edgeville before wandering into the Wilderness, so you may wish to join them here. You can enter the Wilderness from beneath, too: Edgeville Dungeon has a Wilderness gate that can be passed through (again, you will receive warnings before you may do so), taking you into PvP areas beneath the Wilderness.

Easter 2008 - For All Players

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

It seems that the problem-prone Easter Bunny is once again experiencing difficulties. He’s spent so much time redecorating his warren that he hasn’t noticed critters burrowing in and devouring his entire chocolate stockpile.

Now, devoid of cocoa stocks, the chocolate egg production has ground to a halt and the forecast for Easter celebrations looks bleak. No need to worry, though - the Easter Bunny is an inventive sort, and has come up with an eggs-emplary new idea: use a chocatrice! These fearsome creatures, incubated from a chocolate-coated cockatrice egg, can turn their targets into chocolate with one lethal, chocifying gaze.

It falls to you, then, to create this curious creature. You’ll need to track down some of the lost chocolate to make a chocatrice egg and then carefully incubate it. The critters who ate the chocolate supply are sealed in the Easter Bunny’s tunnels and will prove a suitable target for your chocatrice.

So, this Easter, you will come to the aid of chocolate lovers everywhere, incubating your own chocatrice, guiding it around the Easter Bunny’s tunnels and turning the greedy rats into something altogether more delicious…

In other news…

The music system now has a counter which keeps ‘track’ of how many songs you’ve unlocked. You’ll have the Air Guitar emote in no time!

Players will now always receive a TzHaar fire cape and 8,000 TokKul after defeating TzTok-Jad. You can keep any extra fire capes you win as spares in case you lose them, or speak to TzHaar-Mej-Jal, master of the Fight Cave, who will purchase spare fire capes from you for 8,000 TokKul a piece.

We’re constantly looking at item prices on the Grand Exchange and how they match up with similar items and those that are unfinished versions of other items. Prices for some of these sorts of items have been adjusted following this pattern. For example, an unstrung amulet will more closely follow the price of the strung version.

You might have found in the recently refurbished Edgeville Dungeon that fighting chaos druids was a slow process. The death animation has been reduced so you don’t have to spend as much time waiting before picking up your loot!

The Knight’s Sword

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Minigame Guides, Runescape Guide, Runescape Quests

Start: Talk to the Squire in the Falador White Knight Castle.
Skills: You need at least 10 Mining, and the ability to defend against level 57 Ice Warriors and level 53 Ice Giants.
Quests: None!
What You Need: A Redberry Pie, Portrait of Sir Vyvin’s sword, a Blurite Ore and 2 Iron bars.

Scroll down to the end of the guide to find a ‘Fast Quest Walkthrough’.

——————————————————————————–

Getting Started

Firstly, speak with Sir Vyvin’s Squire who can usually be found wandering the Falador Castle garden. Ask him how life as a squire is, and he says that he’s lost Sir Vyvin’s sword. Tell him that you will try and make him a new one, and he says that the sword was made by the Imcando Dwarves.

Now ask the Squire if the Dwarves will make him another, and he tells you to ask Reldo, the librarian of Varrock Castle about them. Tell him that you’ll find out about the Dwarves and try to help.

Finding the Dwarf

Head over to Varrock and look for Reldo, the helpful librarian of Varrock Castle. He’s usually found in his library towards the north side of the castle, and ask him about the Imcando Dwarves. He explains to you that they were almost completely wiped out from the Barbarian attacks, but some may still exist.

Reldo tells you to check the cliffs near Port Sarim, and that you’ll probably need a Redberry Pie to get the Dwarf to help you. You can either buy a Redberry Pie from another player, or cook it yourself, provided that you have level 10 Cooking.

Once you’ve got the pie, head to Port Sarim, just a short distance south of Falador. Continue walking south until you reach a cliff where you should see a small house and a Dwarf named Thurgo. Ask him if he’d like some Redberry Pie, and speak with him again to ask if he will make you a sword. He says that if you get him a picture, he could probably smith it for you.

The Knight’s Sword

Now go back to the Squire in Falador and ask him if there’s a picture of the sword. He tells you that Sir Vyvin has one in his cupboard in the Castle. Go inside through the main entrance and climb up the ladder. Climb up the stairs in the next room, and upstairs should be a small room to the south. Open the cupboard inside and search for a Portrait of the sword.

Now that you’ve got the portrait, bring it to Thurgo to let him look at it. He says that he needs 2 Iron bars and 1 Blurite ore to make a copy of it. You can either smith or buy the iron bars from another player. Blurite ore can be found in the cave right near Thurgo’s house, but it may be a little tricky to get at.

Inside the cave entrance are Muggers, which you can probably slip by quite easily. Next is a group of Pirates, which are more difficult, along with a few Hobgoblins. After following the passage for awhile you will come across an area covered in ice. Toward the east side of the cave can be found 2 Blurite rocks, guarded by many level 57 Ice Warriors and several level 53 Ice Giants. It may be wise to bring some food, and hopefully you will leave with a Blurite Ore .

Hint: If you want to get an extra sword, get 4 Iron bars and 2 Blurite ores. After Thurgo makes the first sword, drop it and have him make another. Before you talk to the Squire, drop a sword or he will take both. (thanks for the tip, Grogrim!)

When you have the needed items, give them to Thurgo who will make you a Blurite Sword to bring back to the Squire. After giving him the sword, you’re finished!

Runescape Smithing Guide

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Runescape Quests

There are two main parts to smithing in RuneScape: making the metal bars, and smithing them into useful items. Before you can start smithing your weapons and armor, you should first either mine the ores you need, or buy them from other players. Buying the ores or bars from other players may be faster than mining them, but it can be quite expensive.

In order to make a metal bar, you need to have the correct amount of ores, and many of the metals require another type of ore to make a bar. For a complete list, you can refer to the Smelting Chart. Each item you make will need a different number of bars to smith it, and that info can be found in the Smithing Chart for the specific metal.

Dwarven Stouts

These helpful drinks can be bought in the Rising Sun bar in Falador for 3gp per drink. They will raise your Smithing and Mining levels by 1 point for a limited amount of time, allowing you to smith objects a level higher than your actual level.

Mature Stouts & Beer

As a reward from the Forgettable Tale (of a Drunken Dwarf) Quest you will get 2 Mature Dwarven Stouts which will increase your Mining and Smithing levels by 2, not just the ordinary 1 level. When Brewing Beer there is a chance that it will become Mature and give extra bonuses. To make it more likely that it becomes Mature you can add “The Stuff” which is something you can buy as a reward from Trouble Brewing.

——————————————————————————–

Smelting Ores

Now that you’ve got all of your ores together, you should smelt them into bars so that you can make weapons and armor out of them. Just bring the ores to a Furnace, and choose the ‘Smelt’ option. You’ll be able to choose which kind of bar to make, as well as the number of bars to smelt. By right-clicking the bar, you can make 1, 5, 10 or ‘x’ bars. You can also use an ore with the furnace to smelt 1 bar at a time.

Smelting with Magic

Another way to smelt all of your metal bars is to cast the ‘Superheat Item’ spell on the ores. This of course requires 4 Fire Runes and 1 Nature Rune, but it can be much faster than walking to a furnace to smelt your bars of metal. If you smelt Iron ore with Magic, all ores will be smelted.

Smelting Chart
Picture Metal Bar Smithing Level Smithing Experience Ore # of 2nd Item
Bronze 1 6 Copper 1 Tin
Lunar 1 - Lunar -
Blurite 8 8 Bluerite -
Iron 15 12.5 Iron 50%
Silver 20 13.7 Silver -
Elemental 20 7.5 Elemental 4 Coal
Steel 30 17.5 Iron 2 Coal
Gold 40 22.5 (56.2) Gold -
Mithril 50 30 Mithril 4 Coal
Adamantite 70 37.5 Adamantite 6 Coal
Rune 85 50 Rune 8 Coal

Smelting Notes

The 50% for smelting Iron ore means that you will only get about half of the ores that you try to smelt. The other ores are wasted and just disappear into the furnace if they aren’t good enough.
By wearing a Ring of Forging, you’ll have a 100% chance to smelt Iron into bars, and each ring has 140 uses.
Smithing Gauntlets - Members have a chance to have their Steel Gauntlets enchanted into GoldSmith Gauntlets. When you smelt a Gold Bar while wearing these, you’ll earn 56.2xp per bar.
Elemental Bars require you to have completed the Elemental Workshop Quest.
Blurite Bars require you to have finished the Knight’s Sword Quest.
Furnaces

You’ll find a number of Furnaces throughout RuneScape:

Free-Play furnaces can be found in Al Kharid, Lumbridge, Falador, and in the Wilderness north of Edgeville.
Member’s furnaces can be found in Ardougne, Shilo Village, Entrana, Port Phasmatys, Rellekka and Tyras’ Camp.

——————————————————————————–

Smithing Items

With your metal bars in hand, it’s time to make some armor, right? Not quite. You first need a Hammer to work the metal with, and you can buy one from any local General Store. Now you can begin smithing items by finding an Anvil and using a metal bar with it. This will bring up a graphical menu with all of the different weapons, armor, and other items you can make. When the menu comes up, pay attention to the colors of the names and number of bars:

White Name - You’re a high enough level to smith the item.
Blacked-Out Name - You need a higher smithing level to smith the item.
# of Bars in Green - You have enough bars to make the item.
# of Bars in Red - You need more bars in order to smith the item.

Now you can choose the item you wish to smith, and if you have enough bars and a high enough level, you will smith it. You can right click on an object in the smithing item and select to make multiple items at once. This is much faster than just making one item at a time.

Anvils

There are many Anvils that can be found throughout RuneScape. Freeplayers can find Anvils in Varrock, the Dwarven Mines, Doric’s Anvil building, and south of Port Sarim. Members can find them in Yanille, West Ardougne, Port Khazard, Seer’s Village, north of Tai Bwo Wannai and Port Phasmatys.

Claws

These can be smithed after completing the Death Plateau Quest.

Runescapemoney.ws Runescape money making guides

Posted by: cow  //  Category: Making Runescape Money

There are many ways to make money on Runescape, from making bars to player killing. The only thing that stands between you and the money is “you”. The only way to receive the money is by building a skill in which you like, the area that you like, and the amount you need to collect. Without these three, this equation or article would have not existed. So by now you must have questions like, “How do I build a skill?” or “where do I begin? Well you should begin with the basics, the equipment.

Would you go to the wilderness without a sword? When building a skill, if you do not have the equipment you are nothing. If you like woodcutting: keep an axe, mining: always keep a pickaxe, smithing: you need ores and a furnace, and fighting: your sword is your best friend. (This will not go over fighting skills; I will soon write a paper for that and how to train fast if you are a non member.)

The first skill that is in the list of nonmember skills is woodcutting. This skill is one of the only skills that gain experience quickly and easily. The trees that you can chop depend on you level, and the cost of the logs depend on how rare the tree. If the logs are rare you get the more money you will get. If you are a level 1(tree) woodcutter the best place to start is at the grand exchange, where are a lot of trees for beginners. Also you may sell the logs or bank them for another use. For level 10- 20 (dead tree and oak) woodcutters, cut oaks in Falador and use the bank at your advantage. To the south there will be two oak logs cut them and bank them, it is easy and I found it affective for me. For level 30-60 woodcutters (willows) there are two choices you may make, bank for sell or drop for experience. If you want to sell go to Draynor village to cut willows to bank them, if you want to chop and drop go to Lumbridge and cut at one willow tree. To do the chop and drop method, you must avoid getting your inventory full. The solution for this is when the tree is gone drop as much as you can before the willow reappears. For level 60 (yews) the best place to cut yews if you just reached this level is Port Sarium. You cannot miss it there is one yew tree, best place for any level woodcutting; to make this less of a hassle you need to be able to teleport to Verrock. The closest bank for the yew tree close to Port sarium is in Draynor Village. You may run back and forth or just walk; it takes a while for the tree to respawn. Another area that has 4 yew trees is at Remington;

Runescape SLUG MENACE QUEST STRATEGY

Posted by: cow  //  Category: Runescape Quests

Starting location: Talk to Sir Tiffy Cashien in Falador Park.
Quest difficulty level: Medium.
Reward: 3500 Crafting, 3500 Runecrafting, 3500 Thieving, Promotion to Temple Knight Proselyte.
Quest points gained: 1.
Required Quests: Sea Slug, Wanted!.
Required Skills: Level 30 Crafting, Level 30 Runecrafting, Level 30 Slayer, Level 30 Thieving.
Required Items: Comm Orb, one Swamp paste, 10+ Essence, Chisel, means to access mind and 4 elemental runecrafting altars (talismans, tiaras, or use of Abyss), equipment to fight level 62 melee monster.
Monsters: Giant Lobsters (level 45), Slug Prince (level 62).
NPC: Bailey, Brother Maledict, Col. O’Niall, Ezekial Lovecraft, Jeb, Jorral, Holgart, Mayor Hobb, Mother Mallum, Savant, Sir Tiffy Cashien.

Speak to Sir Tiffy Cashien to start the quest and receive an updated Commorb. He will tell you to go meet Col. O’niall in Witchaven and use the password “in Falador, the geese fly backwards on Tuesday.” Head to Witchaven which is just east of the dock in Ardougne and speak to Col. O’niall who can be found on the Eastern dock. Use all the speaking options. You will be told to talk to 3 people, Mayor Hobb, Brother Maledict, and Holgart. Speak to Brother Maledict first, who can be found in the centre of Witchaven in the Chapel. Use all the speaking options with him and then make your way to Mayor Hobbs located just West of the Chapel. Speak to him and say that you’re there to relax, then use all the remaining options. Finally make your way to Holgart just to the North then return to Col. O’niall.
When you tell Col’ O’niall the news he will tell you to investigate the Shrine. Head west a bit and you’ll see a dungeon icon on your map head into the ruins. Search the wall there and push it open then walk through. Make your way through the corridor to the Imposing Doors. Do not touch the door. Simply walk up next to it and Savant will tell you to scan it with your Commorb. Once you do this you will be given a scroll to take to Jorral. Pick up a Dead Sea Slug from beside the door. Jorral can be found Northwest of Ardougne at the Outpost near the Arandar pass. Speak to him and after conversing for a bit he will give you information about the scroll and its meanings. Once you leave the outpost Savant will contact you again on the Commorb and tell you to ask the Witchaven townspeople for clues.

Return to Witchaven and speak to Col. O’niall. He suggests speaking Brother Maledict again. When you get near the Chapel you will see a cutscene with Mayor Hobb saying “Welcome to the family” and leaving Brother Maledict. When you speak to him you will notice that he too is under the sea slugs spell. He tells you to recover 3 missing Saradomin pages. The first page can be found in Mayor Hobb’s desk by searching it. The second can be attained by speaking to Ezekial Lovecraft in the fishing shop. The final page is received from Col. O’niall, although it is in 3 pieces and you must repair it. Attempt to use swamp paste on the pages to bond them and Savant will stop you and tell you that Bailey on the fishing platform will know a method that won’t destroy the pages. Speak to Jeb to get to the fishing platform. Bring your Dead Sea Slug with you, if you haven’t already picked one up get it from the Imposing Doors in the Ruins from earlier. Speak to Bailey who can be found West once you get to the fishing platform. He will give you a glue in exchange for your dead sea slug. Use this glue on the torn page and you will get an interface to place the pages together. The page with the Red star should be at the very top, the long triangle piece goes underneath it on the left, and the smaller piece fits in between them on the right. Just line them up right and you will have a complete page.

Now you must shape rune essence or pure essence. To do this right click a page with your essence and a chisel in your inventory and go to “make (rune)” make 3-5 of each type (fire, water, air, earth and mind) you can fail this step destroying your essence so have extra essence ready. Once you have all 5 shapes you can go to each of their altars and use them on the altar to enchant them. You can also fail this step, if you do then your shaped essence will be destroyed. Once you have all of you Shapes enchanted return to the ruins and the Imposing Doors. Be prepared to fight. It won’t be difficult because it is only a level 62 monster but armor should be used and also some food if you are of a low combat level. Use all 5 shapes on the door and it will open revealing a cutscene followed by a battle with a Slug Prince (Lvl. 62). Note that ranged attacks will not work on the Slug Prince. After you defeat him there will be another cutscene where Savant saves you by teleporting you out before the Mother Mallum can take over your brain. You will end up in Falador park next to Sir Tiffy Cashien. Speak to him to finish the quest.

Speak to Lakki the Delivery Dwarf north of Falador on the path connecting Falador with Barbarian Village. Lakki was supposed to be delivering parts to the new power station but has lost a crate along the way. Offer to help him find it. Head west along the path toward the steps. Search the bushes you see beside the path. The crate will be in one of them, though it is random for each player. So search all the bushes until you find it.

Once you have recovered the crate, head up to the power station on southern end of the mountain. It is the grey building on minimap west of the Dwarven Mine entrance. Speak to Drorkar and give him the crate. Drorkar will ask you to deliver a letter to Bordiss, who can be found in the monastery to the north east. Accept the task and make your way to the northern garden of the monastery.

Speak with Brother Bordiss and give him Drorkar’s letter. Bordiss will be enraged by the letter and tell you about Drorkar’s “Zamorakian smoke machine.” Just as he is calmed down. Brother Aldric’s roses die. Speak to Brother Aldric and offer to help him. Use a bucket of compost and your watering can on the dead roses to save the flowers.

After a cutscene head back to Dwarven Mountain and up the snowy central peak. Find Professor Arblenap on the southern end of the snowed peak and speak with him. Arblenap will tell you how Drorkar’s machine is killing the Icefiends. Offer to help him save them. Wield the net the Professor gives you and capture four baby Icefiends. Give the Icefiends to the Professor who will thank you and teleport just as an avalanche occurs.

Head to the northern end of the mountain and speak with the Oracle. Offer to fix her demolished tent, which has been swept down the mountainside to the east. Head down from the ice peak and pick up her broken tent from the avalanche snow. Head back up the mountain to the Oracle and use the tent on the remains with a hammer, 2 planks, 2 nails and a saw in your inventory to fix it. The Oracle will tell you how the melting snow will cause the end of civilization and insist you must prevent it.

Head down from the peak and south to the power station to speak with Drorkar. Tell him he must shut down the power station as it will cause the end of civilization. He will not be swayed and tells you to speak with Nurmof. Head east and down the ladder into Dwarven Mine. Make your way to Nurmof’s pickaxe shop and tell him he must shut the power station down. Nurmof refuses but says Bordiss had an alternative design but never turned up with the plans. Head back to the monastery and speak with Brother Bordiss. He will tell you he kept the plans is his chest and it seems Drorkar took the key while he was drunk.

Head back to the power station and pickpocket Drorkar for the chest key. Make your way to the east and down the ladder into the mines. Head immediately east into Drogo’s shop. Use the key on the chest to retrieve the plans. Bordiss Chest Take the plans to Nurmof and use them with him. He will assess the design and realises it will work. Watch the cutscene of the new environmentally friendly power station. The quest is now complete.
