Trade margin increase

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Runescape Community

From today we have doubled (in some cases tripled) the flexibility of the player trade system. All players will notice an increase in the amount they can trade with other players.

This means accounts with fewer than 10 quest points will be able to earn or lose up to 5,000 coins in wealth every 15 minutes from trading, free players will be able to earn a maximum of 10,000 coins every 15 minutes by completing the free quests and members will have access to a maximum of 60,000 coins per 15 minutes if they have 270 quest points. Your trade margin will increase with each quest point after 10 - for example, at 100 quest points you’ll have a margin of 24,038 coins, and at 200 quest points you’ll have a margin of 45,192 coins.

This was added to the game because we wanted to offer our players more flexibility when trading or helping friends out, without increasing the threat of real-world trading.

Mod Mark
Lead Designer - RuneScape

Note: Currently there are only 269 quest points available in the game, so no player will be able to reach the 60,000 coin margin until our next quest update, scheduled for a few weeks’ time. The trade margin does scale up to that, though, so players a few quest points short of 270 will have a trade margin only slightly below it.

Would you like to see My Arm

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Holiday Guides

Trolls have never been renowned as farmers. But Burntmeat the troll cook has heard a rumour that humans are able to grow goutweed, and he’s keen to give it a try. In the kitchen of the Troll Stronghold, Burntmeat is hoping for a kind adventurer to teach his assistant this skill.
If you’ve done Eadgar’s Ruse and The Feud, come back to the Troll Stronghold and meet My Arm, Burntmeat’s exasperating young assistant. With My Arm by your side, prepare for a memorable voyage to sunny Karamja as you discover exactly how stupid a troll can be! This bizarre quest features jungle villagers, seafarers, dung and trolls aplenty.

If you can survive all that and help My Arm grow his own goutweed, you’ll earn yourself a nice xp reward, plus a little something to help you get more out of the Farming skill.

But watch out for an encounter with the biggest bird ever seen in RuneScape…

A note about the Quest Point Cape:

Now that we’ve just released a new quest, all the players who’d got the new QP cape or hood will find that they’ve no longer got the right to wear these items since they haven’t got all the available quest points. If you were wearing the QP cape or hood when you logged off before the update, the items will try to take themselves off you when you log back in.

If there was not sufficient space in your inventory or bank for the items to appear, you will be able to retrieve them from the Wise Old Man of Draynor Village free of charge. You will be able to wear them again as soon as you have the maximum possible number of quest points.

——————————————————————————–

In other news…

The new Fletching cape is now available from Hickton in Catherby rather than the Ranging Guild. This allows players with level 99 fletching to buy the cape even if they have never gained access to the Guild.

If you have completed Darkness of Hallowvale and One Small Favour, you can now save an extra bankspace by storing the Meiyerditch short-cut key on your keyring.

Players who have completed the Rag and Bone Man quest, but who have not yet found all the bones on the wish-list, will now see a little yellow asterisk (*) on their quest list to remind them that they still have more work to do if they want to earn all the quest points available from the Odd Old Man.

Many people have requested that costumes stored in their houses’ costume rooms should be protected in some way by the Bank PIN system. Although we have not yet made this change, we are working on it, and it should be released in the near future.
In the meantime, we’d like to remind you all that the Bank PIN is NOT a substitute for other forms of account security, and players still need to make sure no-one finds out their passwords. Visit our Knowledge Base to learn about keeping your account secure.

Scroll down to the end of the guide to find a ‘Fast Quest Walkthrough’.

——————————————————————————–

Getting Started

To start this adventure, talk to the Guild Master who can be found in the Champions’ Guild. The guild can be found by following the map above.

Ask him about the rune platemail.

Finding Oziach

Oziach can be found in Edgeville. Follow the map above, and he can be found in his house that has a yellow circle surrounding it.

Tell Oziach that the Guild Master told you about him, and the rune platemail. Oziach wants you to prove yourself, by slaying the legendary Elvarg the Dragon. Ask if there is anything you need, and Oziach recommends an anti-dragon shield. Dragons breathe harmful fire, of course! This mother dragon called Elvarg can be found on Crandor Isle, but you will need a map to follow to know how to get there. The map has been torn into 3 pieces, which you will need to find. Oziach will now tell you that the Guild Master has the key to Melzar’s Maze. Find your way back to the start of the quest and talk to the Guild Master. He will give you a maze key!

The Anti-Dragon Shield

To fight a dangerous dragon, you will need a good shield to protect you from the dangerous fire breath. Duke Horacio of Lumbridge has the anti-dragon shield that you will need. To get to Lumbridge, easily cast the Home Teleport spell and you will arrive at the courtyard of the castle. The Duke is located on the second floor of his castle. After a chat, you will receive the anti-dragon shield. Take care of it.

Melzar’s Map Piece

This is the hardest map piece to obtain, as it requires a killing powerful demon. Come prepared with some decent food like lobsters, swordfish or tuna, some good armour and a decent weapon. If you have a high enough magic level, bringing teleport runes will ensure your safety. You do not need the anti dragon shield to fight the demon.

Now that you are prepared with your equipment, it’s time to get the map piece. The map piece is found in Melzar’s Maze, and you’ll need the Maze Key that was given to you earlier by Oziach to enter the maze. The maze can be found by following the map above. Once you arrive, use the maze key with the door to enter. If you have lost your maze key, return to the Guild Master and ask him for another.

Now, you’ll need to kill the giant rats in the room until one of them drops a red key. Once you have the red key, use it with the door in the northwest corner of the room and climb the ladder.

Next, kill the ghosts until they drop an orange key. Once the key is dropped, pick it up and use it on the door second from the north on the east wall. Head up the ladder in the small room after opening the door.

After that, kill the skeletons until they drop a yellow key, which you’ll need to use to open the southwest door. Next, head down the next three ladders.

Finally, you’ll enter a room with several zombies. Begin to kill zombies until they drop a blue key. Use the key with the blue painted door and you will enter a new room.

A level-43 Melzar the Mad will attack you, and he will say all sorts of very funny things. Once he is dead, get prepared for the hardest battle. Once you’re ready, use the key dropped by Melzar with the door and slay the level-82 lesser demon.

It will drop a green key, which you can use on the last door. Now, open and search the chest to obtain the first map piece! Congratulations!

Thelzar’s Map Piece

The holder of the second map piece is the Oracle, who can be found on Ice Mountain (see the above map). The Oracle’s location is the yellow circle. Once you arrive, bring up the subject of the map piece.

She says you’ll need several items in order to enter a room with the map piece inside. The following items are needed:

Wizard’s Mind Bomb - bought from the Falador pub for 3gp.
Lobster Pot - bought from the fishing shops in Port Sarim and Catherby.
Unfired Bowl - made by using soft clay on a pottery wheel and selecting bowl.
Silk - it costs 32gp in a General Store, 2gp from the Silk Trader in Al Kharid if you haggle, and 30gp from the Clothing Store in Varrock.
Once you have retrieved the items, head over into the Dwarven Mines, which can be seen on the map above. Climb down the ladder and go to the door that is in front of the room circled in yellow. Now use each of the items with the door until you only have just a beer glass left. Now you can enter the room.

Enter the room.

Open and search the chest, and you will have Thelzar’s map piece! Congratulations!

Lozar’s Map Piece

We’ve saved the easiest for last! Lozar’s Map Piece requires you simply to have 10,000gp if you don’t have level-31 Magic or higher. Alternatively, if you have level-33 Magic or higher, you’ll need one law rune and one air rune. If you magic level is 31 or 32, bring a Wizard’s Mind Bomb to help boost your magic level. If you are not paying the 10,000gp, items for magic or ranged attacks are needed. Once you have all the required items, head to the Port Sarim jail. Following the map below will bring you there.

Once you get there, go to the third cell south and you will see Wormbrain.

If you have brought magic or range attack and your telekinetic grab runes (with a wizards’ mind bomb if your magic level is 31 or 32), start shooting your spells or arrows at Wormbrain until he is dead. Once he is finished off, cast your telekinetic grab spell then click on the map piece. Congratulations!

If you have brought 10,000gp, simply talk to Wormbrain and buy the map piece for a hefty price of 10,000 coins! Congratulations!

The Boat

Now that you’ve retrieved all of the Crandor map pieces, you need a boat to get to the Island! You need to go back to the Guildmaster. He is in the Champions’ Guild, where you started this quest. Klarense in Port Sarim (where you found Wormbrain) is the answer to your prayers. Follow the map below and Klarense is in the yellow circle.

Talk to him about buying the boat, and he will put a 2,000gp price tag on the boat.

Accept, and the boat is yours! Climb aboard the boat and go below deck and you will see a big hole. It needs to be fixed. To fix the hole you need the following items:

3 planks - planks can be found in the Graveyard of Shadows, which is in level-19 wilderness. They can also be obtained by taking a log with some coins to the Sawmill Operator northeast of Varrock, or picked up on Entrana.
90 steel nails - these can be smithed with a steel bar, or bought from other players.
Once you have obtained those items, go back to the boat with them. Use each plank on the hole and the boat will be fixed! Well done! The Lady Lumbridge is now ready to set sail!

Kitting Up and Going to Crandor

If you use the map pieces with each other, they will turn into a Crandor map. For this next part, you’ll need to talk to Ned, who can be found in his house in Draynor Village.

By following the map above you will be able to find Ned. After talking to him, he’ll take your map and will meet you at the Lady Lumbridge.

Now, you need to prepare your equipment for killing the dragon. Here is a detailed list of things you will need to fight Elvarg:

A combat level of at least 40-50.
An inventory similar to this:

Lobsters or swordfish to heal big amounts of damage. The dragon can hit up to 10 damage! A strength potion is optional but will really help you. You could also bring some emergency teleport runes incase something goes wrong.
Equipment similar to this:

The rune armour can be replaced with adamant armour, as can the weapon. An amulet of power and strength will help a lot, too. Bringing a cape will also provide a small, yet precious, defense bonus. Do not forget the anti-dragon shield, or you are as good as dead! Here is a picture of somebody who forgot their shield:

Note: You can use the dragonfire shield (members only) as well.
Once you’re all kitted up, head to Ned at the Lady Lumbridge. Go below the deck and you will set sail for Crandor! Unfortunately, the dragon will attack the boat with fire breath and kill Cabin Boy Jenkins!

You will be forced to run away, and will wash up on Crandor. Ned appears to be missing, too!

Now, make your way to the cave entrance by following the map below.

Note: If you have fixed the boat and crashed it, you can use the shortcut wall under the Karamja Volcano. It is a much faster way to get to the dragon again if you die.

Once you’ve headed down into the volcano, go southeast for a while until you see a wall.

Now is the time to take a dose of strength potion, if you have one. Wield your anti dragon shield and activate prayers, such as ultimate strength and protection from melee or magic. The dragon uses a mixture of both. Once you’re ready, head into the area and start attacking Elvarg. Don’t let your hitpoints get too low!

After a long battle, Elvarg will hopefully be defeated. If it’s the latter, you will cut off the dragon’s head. You’ll need to find your way back to Oziach, and after talking to him, congratulations, quest complete!

18,650 experience in Strength and Defense.
Ability to wear a rune platemail and dragon leatherbody once you reach the requirements (40 defense for platemail, 40 ranged and defense for the leatherbody).
2 Quest Points
Rune Platemail

Upon completion of the quest, you will have the ability to buy and wield the rune platemail. You can buy it cheap from players or expensive from Oziach for 84,500gp! As you can see, the platemail’s stats are quite impressive!

Green Dragonhide Body

As well as the rune platemail, the green dragonhide body can be worn upon completion of this adventure. As the stats below clearly state, dragonhide provides excellent magic protection. You can buy a green dragonhide body from Oziach, or from another player.

Runescape Bank space and game tweaks

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Beginners' Guide

Need a break from the harsh world of furniture building? Try reading the May edition of the Postbag from the Hedge instead. In this issue we look carefully at how the lizards around the minimap got hired, ask Glough what he’s up to, take pictures of evil penguins, give fashion coach bags聽tips to zombies and much more besides…

Game tweaks

We have added 3 more rows of bank space to the game for members only. This now gives you a grand total of 376 slots to store your stuff!

As a result of adding another skill to the game, you’ll have noticed that we had to change the layout of some of the interfaces.
Your combat level is now shown on the Combat interface where you select your combat style.
Your number of quest points is shown on the Quest list interface, right at the top.

More plank spawns have been added around the world.

A small number of Teak and Mahogany trees have been added to the Kharazi Jungle, Ape Atoll, Uzer and the woodland just south of Castle Wars.
Please note: Miscellanian resources and the Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup minigame remain effective ways to collect these valuable logs.

Mort’ton general store now sells timber beams instead of planks. Timber beams can now be used in place of planks to build the Flamtaer Temple.

Runescape WOLF WHISTLE QUEST STRATEGY

Posted by: cow  //  Category: Runescape Quests

Starting location: Pikkupstix’s house in eastern Taverley.
Quest difficulty level: Easy.
Reward: 276 Summoning, ability to use Summoning skill, 275 gold charms.
Quest points gained: 1.
Required Quests: None.
Required Skills: None.
Required Items: 2 set of wolf bones.
Monsters: Wolpertinger.
NPC: Pikkupstix.

WOLF WHISTLE QUEST WALKTHROUGH

Start by heading to Taverly and talking to Pikkupstix, who is located in the house with the quest icon on it. He will tell you about a little problem upstairs with a rampant creature. After finding out it is a rabbit-like creature, say you can take care of it. Head upstairs, and a short cut scene of an frightening, evil rabbit of doom will play. Go back downstairs, before the monster notices you.

Talk to Pikkupstix again, and you will find out that the rabbit-like creature is called a Wolpertinger. He will tell you that to kill it, you need a Spirit wolf pouch. He has all the materials necessary to create one, except wolf bones. Collect two wolf bones from locations such as White Wolf Mountain (to the west) or behind Gu’Tanoth. You can search the remains of his assistant, Stikklebrix, who can be found on the pathway up White Wolf Mountain, or simply kill two wolves.

Return to Pikkupstix’s house and talk to him. He will give you the rest of the required items: Spirit shards (14), Gold charms (2), Pouches (2) and a Trapdoor key. The spirit shards go into the pouch to attract a certain familiar you want. You then find out you need to make two summoning pouches.

Open the trap door, on the east side of the house, and continue down into the dungeon. Use your materials on a nearby obelisk that is active; that is, the options should be “Infuse-Pouch” and “Renew-Points.” Select to make two Spirit wolf pouches. Then use one pouch with the obelisk again, and create ten Howl (spirit wolf) scrolls.

Now go back upstairs to the Wolpertinger’s level. Summon the Spirit wolf by using the “Summon” option of the pouch. Use the howl ability with your summoned wolf, by selecting the special ability button. This will use one of your Spirit wolf scrolls. After that, you will feel drained from using your summoning abilities. Talk to Pikkupstix, who will tell you to go down and renew your points at the obelisk. Finally, return to Pikkupstix to complete the quest.

Runescape WITCH’S HOUSE QUEST STRATEGY GUIDE

Posted by: cow  //  Category: Runescape Quests

Starting location: Talk to the little boy at Taverly.
Quest difficulty level: Medium.
Reward: 6325 Hits xp.
Quest points gained: 4.
Required Items: Gloves (spawn south of Edgeville bank, or in the quest it is possible to search the boxes for one), Cheese (spawn at the house in Draynor).
Monsters: Witches Experiment (levels 19, 30, 42 & 53)
NPC: Nora T. Hagg, Boy.

WITCH’S HOUSE QUEST WALKTHROUGH
First of all you need to make your way to the gate entrance of Taverly. Just past it you will see a little boy standing by the hedge. Talk to him and he will ask you if you can get his ball back for him. Go around the hedge and you will come to the door of the house. You will find that the door is locked and you will find the key under the first pot to your left. Go in the door and go upstairs and look around for the diary and read it. Go back downstairs and into the basement. Wear your leather gloves, if you do not have the gloves yet, search crates until you get a pair. Go through the gate and search the cupboard for the magnet. Go back upstairs and into the little room with the door that leads to the garden and drop your cheese and a mouse will come out. Attach the magnet to the mouse and it will unlock the door. Be cautious: the mouse goes away in about 20 seconds and you lose your cheese if you fail to attach the magnet in time. Now you are in the garden you will see the witch patrolling. The trick here is not to let her see you. If she does she will teleport you outside of the house, take away the magnet from the mouse and you will have to go in again. Go all the way round until you reach the fountain. Search around the sides of the fountain, you will find the key to the shed. It may take several attempts to find the key, but it is there. Please note: You have to read the whole of the diary to find the key. Go to the shed and use the key on it. Try to take the ball and a shape shifter or ‘Witches Experiment’ will appear and turn into 4 different monsters, each one harder than the other: Its original form, a spider, a bear and a wolf. Once you beat the Shape Shifter, collect the ball. Be careful not to get caught on your way out. When you have the ball, you may still not be seen by the witch. If she sees you, you鈥檒l be teleported out, and you will lose the key to the shed, and the ball. Give the ball to the boy. This completes the quest and you will never be able to re-enter the witch’s house again.

Runescape WHAT LIES BELOW QUEST STRATEGY

Posted by: cow  //  Category: Runescape Quests

Starting location: Speak to Rat Burgiss at the crossroad on the path south of Varrock.
Quest difficulty level: Medium.
Reward: 8000 Runecrafting, 2000 Defense, Beacon Ring, alternative route to the chaos altar.
Quest points gained: 1.
Required Quests: Rune Mysteries.
Required Skills: Level 35 Runecrafting.
Required Items: Bowl, 15 chaos runes.
Monsters: Outlaw (Level 32), King Roald (Level 47).
NPC: Rat Burgiss, Surok Magis, Zaff.

WHAT LIES BELOW QUEST WALKTHROUGH
Speak to Rat Burgiss at the crossroads of Lumbridge and Varrock. While traveling to Varrock, his cart was ransacked by outlaws. These outlaws took five pages of some very important papers. Offer to get them back for him. He heard the outlaws say they were heading to a camp site northwest of Varrock. Burgiss provides a folder to put the pages in, after you have reclaimed them. Head up to the outlaws camp - due east of the Edgeville fairy ring and southwest of the Spirit Tree. Kill five Outlaws (Level 32) and use the papers they drop on your folder. Return to Burgiss and give him his folder.
Burgiss will tell you a secret. Your response makes him decide to instead give you another task which is delivering a letter that is incomprehensible to you. The letter is to be given to Surok Magis, a wizard residing in the Varrock Palace Library, so head up and speak to him. Upon giving him the letter, he will immediately destroy it and offer to let you in on a secret - he has discovered a way to turn clay into gold bars. He only needs a few more things so he can create enough gold to share with you: a bowl and a wand with the power of the chaos altar in it. He will give you a metal wand and a diary written by one Sin’keth, a follower of Zamorak who helped in the creation of the Tunnel of Chaos, hidden beneath a statue of Saradomin. Surok Magis will also tell you of a historic tome somewhere in the library which contains details on a shortcut to the Chaos Altar. Search the bookcases until you find the Dagon’hai history; this book also points to the statue of Saradomin as the entrance to the Tunnel of Chaos.

Take 15 chaos runes and the metal wand to the Chaos Altar. There are three ways to go:

The Abyss - Like any normal abyss trip, go through the abyss and into the Chaos portal.
The Wilderness - Head north and west from Edgeville and enter the Chaos Altar with a talisman or tiara.
The Tunnel of Chaos (Level 42 Mining Required) - You will need a Chaos talisman or tiara for this path. Head out the east gate of Varrock and follow the path north to the Saradomin statue.
The Saradomin Statue Use a bronze pickaxe to excavate the statue. If you don’t have one speak to Anna Jones who will give you one on Surok’s orders. Use the wand on the Chaos altar to infuse the runes. Return to Surok with the Infused wand and bowl. He must now prepare the spell, which will take some time.
To occupy you during the wait, he has a letter for you to deliver to Rat Burgiss. Head to Rat and give him the letter - after reading it he will decide to let you in on his secret. It turns out he is really the Commander of the Varrock Palace Secret Guard, acting on suspicions that Surok was trying to control King Roald. It appears in your vain wishes for gold, you have really helped Surok to finally get the items needed for his mind-control spell. The only person with the knowledge to counteract this spell is Zaff, the owner of the staff shop in Varrock. Speak with him, saying that Rat Burgiss sent you. The spell developed to counteract Surok’s mind-control spell will only work if King Roald is made incredibly weak beforehand. Zaff will give you some instructions and a beacon ring, used to summon him when King Roald is appropriately weakened. Though Surok will most likely refuse to an arrest, you have been made an honorary member of the Varrock Palace Secret Guard so you are able to arrest him.

It is time to return to the Varrock Palace Library and confront Surok. He, of course, refuses to go quietly. Instead, he orders King Roald - already placed under his spell - to attack you. In a cut scene, Surok will summon King Roald (Level 47), who, after brief disorientation, decides he must kill you. Fight him until your chatbox says “Now would be a good time to summon Zaff!” Operate the Beacon Ring, and Zaff will cast the counter-spell, then teleport King Roald out of danger. Surok will attempt to escape, but his teleportation spell will be corrupted by Zaff. Zaff has instated a permanent teleblock on the library, stopping Surok from ever leaving. All that is left is to go to Rat and tell him of the mission’s success. Though it is expected he will no longer be a problem, a closer watch is now being kept on Surok. Burgiss gives you the reward, mentioning that one day there may be a place for you in the Varrock Palace Secret Guard.
