Farming – Livid Farm (Members)

Sowing the seeds of livid

There’s nothing natural about the Livid Farm. These crops have been angered, teased and magically twisted into corrupted forms that only its mother, the Jade Vine, could love. Being such extreme vegetation, they need constant care and attention for them to grow; this is where you come in, as you help Pauline Polaris to manage the farm that threatens to grow out of control at any single moment.

The Livid Farm grows at a much faster rate than any other farm patch. It grows and needs harvesting every minute or so, and although Pauline will do this herself, her hands are full and she will welcome anyone who can help. Using your lunar spells, you can help with one or all of the tasks on the farm, gaining Magic and other skill XP as you do.

Location

Location of Livid Farm

The Livid Farm can be found in the north of Lunar Isle, north-east of the Moon Clan settlement.

The advised method of getting to the habitat is by using the Teleport to Lunar Isle spell in the lunar spellbook. This will teleport you to the quay at the south of the island, which is only a short run north to get to the farm itself.

If you do not have the runes to cast the Teleport to Lunar Isle spell, it is advised to travel from Rellekka, calling on the services of one Lokar Searunner: the pirate who happens to have named the livid. His plan is that they will always be remembered as ‘Lokar’s Infernal Vine of Incredible Death’, but few can take the time to call it that…

Requirements

To help Pauline with the Livid Farm, you must have completed Lunar Diplomacy and have all of the following skill level requirements:

  • Magic level 70
  • Agility level 60
  • Farming level 60
  • Crafting level 60
  • Construction level 50

Each task within the Livid Farm (and there are five common tasks in total) requires you to use a spell from your lunar spellbook. This means that you must have your lunar spellbook activated, but, uniquely to Livid Farm, you DO NOT have to have the Magic level required to cast each spell. Instead, you will receive NO Magic XP if you cast a spell in this way. You will, however, still gain XP in a related skill (see the descriptions of each task to find out what these XP rewards are):

  • Curing the livid (Cure Plant) – Magic level 66
  • Bunching the livid (String Jewellery) – Magic level 80
  • Fertilising the soil (Fertile Soil) – Magic level 83
  • Making fenceposts (Plank Make) – Magic level 86
  • Energising Pauline (Energy Transfer) – Magic level 91

Occasionally, a distraction will occur on the farm. Like the common activities of the farm, you will need to cast a lunar spell to receive a reward from them. Read the Distractions section to find out more about these:

  • Help, my ibis is sick (Monster Examine) – Magic level 66
  • When a suqah attacks… (Energy Transfer) – Magic level 91
  • Murky Pat’s revenge (Vengeance Other) – Magic level 93

Recommended Items

It is recommended that you bring runes to cast any lunar spells required in the Livid Farm. If you plan to cast lunar spells that you do not have the Magic level to cast, you will still need to bring the required runes.

No other items – including farming items – are required to use the Livid Farm.

Farming at the Livid Farm

Healing a livid plant

It is recommended that you talk to Pauline Polaris in the Livid Farm to get a more complete sense of what you can achieve here.

Work at the Livid Farm is prodigiously fast. From one minute to another, Pauline will plant a seed, fertilise it, cure the resulting growth, bunch the harvested shoots and put them on a wagon ready for transport. The speed takes its toll on Pauline, and she welcomes anyone who can contribute to these stages and give her a breather.

Each stage of the farming process requires a lunar spell. To rid a livid of disease, for example, it needs to be targeted with the Cure Plant spell. The reason for this is that the livid are so dangerous that manually treating or touching the plants could lead to personal injury. You can cast a spell on a suitable location by either opening your lunar spellbook and casting it conventionally, or simply left-clicking on the location.

Since farming at the Livid Farm is so fast-paced, you will find that tasks completed moments ago are soon ready to be completed again. So, if you have cured all plants in the farm, you need only wait a few moments for more diseased livid to rise up.

As mentioned previously, you do not need the Magic level to cast each spell on the Livid Farm. You will still need the required runes, however. Any spell cast without the required Magic level will earn you XP in Farming, Agility, Crafting or Construction, depending on the task, and will give you half the produce points. Produce points are received by completing any task in the farm, and can be used to buy lunar spells from Pauline Polaris.

Fertilising the livid patches:

Pauline needs you to fertilise the barren Lunar Isle soil. To find a patch that requires fertilising, look for completely empty patches; anything with a healthy or unhealthy livid will not require your aid.

Spell Level
required
Runes required Experience
Fertile soil 83 Astral rune x 3 Earth rune x 15 Nature rune x 2 87 Magic XP
+91.8 Farming XP

Fertilising one patch with the Fertile Soil spell gets you 20 produce points. Casting the spell without the required Magic level gets you 10 produce points.

Curing the livid:

Some of the livid will look haggard and ill. Cast Cure Plant on these plants and you will be asked to tune your spell to a specific strain of livid. This takes the form of an interface that opens in the sidebar, showing four different strains of the livid; simply click the one that matches the plant you aim to cure, and watch as it returns to health!

Spell Level
required
Runes required Experience
Cure plant 66 Astral rune x 1 Earth rune x 8 60 Magic XP
+ 91.8 Farming XP

Curing livid with the Cure Plant spell gets you 20 produce points.

Bunching the livid:

Once the livid have been harvested by Pauline, they need to be taken from their pile of produce to be bunched. Taking from the produce pile puts up to 10 livid in your inventory. Casting the String Jewellery spell will convert 5 livid into a bunch, and you can then manually place the bunched livid into the trade wagon. You will only get the XP once the livid has been placed into the wagon.

Spell Level
required
Runes required Experience
String Jewellery 80 Astral rune x 2 Earth rune x 10 Water rune x 5 83 Magic XP
+ 270 Crafting XP

Bunching five livid gets you 120 produce points. Casting the spell without the required Magic level gets you 60 produce points.

Fixing fence posts:

Fences last only a few moments on the Livid Farm, as a combination of suqah attacks and the sea breeze wears them away into nothingness. To keep the suqah out (and the livid in) you are required to gather lunar lumber from a pile in the north-east of the farm and then cast Plank Make to convert them into fenceposts. These can be used on damaged sections of the fence for a reward of Construction and Magic XP.

Spell Level
required
Runes required Experience
Plank make 86 Astral rune x 2 Earth rune x 15 Nature rune x 1 90 Magic XP
+ 54.6 Construction XP

Fixing fenceposts gets you 20 Produce Points. Casting the spell without the required Magic level gets you 10 produce points.

Energising Pauline:

Pauline works harder than almost anyone else on RuneScape, and that effort is bound to take its toll. If you see Pauline flagging, cast Energy Transfer on her and you will given a choice of phrases, some of which are enthusing and others are just insulting! Choose an enthusing phrase to boost Pauline and your Magic and Agility levels (with a small reduction to your run energy levels).

Spell Level
required
Runes required Experience
Energy transfer 91 Astral rune x 3 Law rune x 2 Nature rune x 1 100 Magic XP
+ 169.7 Agility XP

Energising Pauline gets you 100 Produce Points. Casting the spell without the required Magic level gets you 50 produce points.

Distractions

Talk to anyone who runs a farm or ranch and they will tell you that the unexpected occurs, and does so regularly. The Livid Farm is no different, and it is prone to occasional visits from suqah, pirates and sick familiars! You should treat these in the same way as other actions on the Livid Farm, since they each require a lunar spell to be cast on them. The distractions will happen randomly and occasionally, so you cannot guarantee that they will turn up at any point, and they will always provide you with a rune reward.

Help, my ibis is sick:

There must be something in the air on Lunar Isle, as everything has a tendency to get sick or tired with alarming regularity. To help this ibis to recover, you will need to examine it with the Monster Examine spell, and then talk to Meteora to tell her what is wrong with it.

Spell Level
required
Runes required Experience
Monster examine 66 Astral rune x 1 Cosmic rune x 1 Mind rune x 1 61 Magic XP

Reward: Gives 1 astral rune, 10 water runes, 16 earth runes, 1 cosmic rune and 1 mind rune.

When a suqah attacks…

The suqah and the Moon Clan have an uneasy acceptance of each other, thanks largely to the suqah’s fear of the magical clanspeople and the Moon Clan’s determination to stay peaceful. The suqah, however, still get hungry, and this leads them to raids on food stores and even the Livid Farm! To deter any suqah, use the Energy Transfer spell on Pauline, who will magic the suqah away. This costs half of your special attack bar.

Spell Level
required
Runes required Experience
Energy transfer 91 Astral rune x 3 Law rune x 2 Nature rune x 1 100 Magic XP

Reward: Gives 3 astral runes, 10 water runes, 16 earth runes, 2 law runes and 1 nature rune.

Murky Pat’s Revenge

Murky Pat’s feeling unloved for various reasons, and is looking to improve matters in a truly pirate manner: by getting revenge! Use Vengeance Other to target the person who is giving Pat grief, but make sure you pick the correct dialogue option from the ones he gives you.

Spell Level
required
Runes required Experience
Vengeance other 93 Astral rune x 3 Earth rune x 10 Death rune x 2 108 Magic XP

Reward: Gives 3 astral runes, 15 water runes, 20 earth runes and 2 death runes.

Rewards

Magic and skill XP are not the only rewards you can receive from the farm. With every completed action (not including the distractions), you will receive produce points that are tracked by Pauline (talk to her and you will be able to view your produce points at any time). These points can unlock new lunar spells in your lunar spellbook, to be used outside of the Livid Farm. Your produce points are not lost or spent when you unlock a spell.

Once you have unlocked the last spell, Vengeance Group, the cost of that spell is deducted from your produce points and you are free to spend the rest on wishes. These are skill abilities that last for a short period of time.

You will also gain a one-off bonus reward if you talk to Pauline having earned clothing from the Herblore Habitat…

Wishes:

If you have unlocked all of the spells in the Livid Farm, you can activate Pauline’s ‘wishes’. These are effects that last for a period after they are activated, and they give you a boost to your abilities outside of the farm.

Unlike the spells, wishes cost you produce points.

Farming FAQ

Do Gardening boots affect your Farming abilities?

Gardening boots do not affect the Farming skill or the growth of plants in any way; they are currently only worn for decorative purposes.

How come I got less vegetables or fruit than I did on another Farming patch?

This is because when your crops have grown, it is random how many you get each time. However, you can use compost and super compost on your Farming patches; this helps increase the amount of produce that you harvest.

I’m a novice to the Farming skill. How should I start to increase my levels?

Always keep a varied selection of seeds in your bank, it is always good to plan ahead.

Plant crops in more than one patch and be super efficient, but make sure you keep an eye on them in between other things. Don’t forget to take teleport runes to save tedious walking time. Obviously, plant the highest level seed that you can, this will give you greater experience.

Raking patches and making compost gives Farming experience, too, so if you are of a low Farming level you may want to rake some patches or make some compost while you wait for your plants to grow.

It would also be worth buying an amulet of Farming from a Farming shop…

How do I fill my watering can?

Find a place in RuneScape that has a symbol of a drop of water: this will show the location of a water source. You may use the watering can on the water source to refill your watering can. Possible water sources include fountains and sinks.

My potatoes/onions keep getting diseased!

Plant some marigolds, these will drive off the nasty bugs that cause disease. You can cure your plants by using some plant cure available from the Farming shops and NPCs around the Farming patches.

I don’t want to stand and wait for my patch to grow. Isn’t there something else I can do?

Pay a local gardener with produce to watch over your crops, this saves a lot of effort on your part. For other ways to look after your plants, please see Farming Basics.

Climb up one of them and you should arrive on another floor. One of the rooms should contain Duke Horacio. Talk to him and ask him if he has any quests for you. He will tell you about a strange talisman he found and ask you to deliver it to Sedridor, the Head Wizard at the Wizards’ Tower. Accept his request and he will give you an Air Talisman.

Sedridor

Head to the Wizards’ Tower, just southwest of Lumbridge and directly south of Draynor Village. When you arrive there, enter the western room with ladders in it. Climb the ladder leading downstairs. You should spot Sedridor nearby. Speak to him and tell him that you’re looking for the Head Wizard. He’ll say that he is and ask you to give the Air Talisman to him. Hand it over to him and he will be stunned. He’ll give you a Research Package and tell you to give it to Aubury, located in the Rune shop in Varrock, to the northeast.

Note: If you happen to lose the Research Package, just ask Sedridor for another.

Aubury

Head off to the Varrock Rune shop. Once you arrive there, speak to Aubury. Tell him you’ve been sent to deliver something to him and he’ll ask you to let him study the Research Package. Speak to him again and he will give you some Research Notes.

Note: If you happen to lose the Research Notes, just ask Aubury for another.

Scroll down to the end of the guide to find a ‘Fast Quest Walkthrough’.

——————————————————————————–

Getting Started

To start this adventure, talk to the Guild Master who can be found in the Champions’ Guild. The guild can be found by following the map above.

Ask him about the rune platemail.

Finding Oziach

Oziach can be found in Edgeville. Follow the map above, and he can be found in his house that has a yellow circle surrounding it.

Tell Oziach that the Guild Master told you about him, and the rune platemail. Oziach wants you to prove yourself, by slaying the legendary Elvarg the Dragon. Ask if there is anything you need, and Oziach recommends an anti-dragon shield. Dragons breathe harmful fire, of course! This mother dragon called Elvarg can be found on Crandor Isle, but you will need a map to follow to know how to get there. The map has been torn into 3 pieces, which you will need to find. Oziach will now tell you that the Guild Master has the key to Melzar’s Maze. Find your way back to the start of the quest and talk to the Guild Master. He will give you a maze key!

The Anti-Dragon Shield

To fight a dangerous dragon, you will need a good shield to protect you from the dangerous fire breath. Duke Horacio of Lumbridge has the anti-dragon shield that you will need. To get to Lumbridge, easily cast the Home Teleport spell and you will arrive at the courtyard of the castle. The Duke is located on the second floor of his castle. After a chat, you will receive the anti-dragon shield. Take care of it.

Melzar’s Map Piece

This is the hardest map piece to obtain, as it requires a killing powerful demon. Come prepared with some decent food like lobsters, swordfish or tuna, some good armour and a decent weapon. If you have a high enough magic level, bringing teleport runes will ensure your safety. You do not need the anti dragon shield to fight the demon.

Now that you are prepared with your equipment, it’s time to get the map piece. The map piece is found in Melzar’s Maze, and you’ll need the Maze Key that was given to you earlier by Oziach to enter the maze. The maze can be found by following the map above. Once you arrive, use the maze key with the door to enter. If you have lost your maze key, return to the Guild Master and ask him for another.

Now, you’ll need to kill the giant rats in the room until one of them drops a red key. Once you have the red key, use it with the door in the northwest corner of the room and climb the ladder.

Next, kill the ghosts until they drop an orange key. Once the key is dropped, pick it up and use it on the door second from the north on the east wall. Head up the ladder in the small room after opening the door.

After that, kill the skeletons until they drop a yellow key, which you’ll need to use to open the southwest door. Next, head down the next three ladders.

Finally, you’ll enter a room with several zombies. Begin to kill zombies until they drop a blue key. Use the key with the blue painted door and you will enter a new room.

A level-43 Melzar the Mad will attack you, and he will say all sorts of very funny things. Once he is dead, get prepared for the hardest battle. Once you’re ready, use the key dropped by Melzar with the door and slay the level-82 lesser demon.

It will drop a green key, which you can use on the last door. Now, open and search the chest to obtain the first map piece! Congratulations!

Thelzar’s Map Piece

The holder of the second map piece is the Oracle, who can be found on Ice Mountain (see the above map). The Oracle’s location is the yellow circle. Once you arrive, bring up the subject of the map piece.

She says you’ll need several items in order to enter a room with the map piece inside. The following items are needed:

Wizard’s Mind Bomb - bought from the Falador pub for 3gp.
Lobster Pot - bought from the fishing shops in Port Sarim and Catherby.
Unfired Bowl - made by using soft clay on a pottery wheel and selecting bowl.
Silk - it costs 32gp in a General Store, 2gp from the Silk Trader in Al Kharid if you haggle, and 30gp from the Clothing Store in Varrock.
Once you have retrieved the items, head over into the Dwarven Mines, which can be seen on the map above. Climb down the ladder and go to the door that is in front of the room circled in yellow. Now use each of the items with the door until you only have just a beer glass left. Now you can enter the room.

Enter the room.

Open and search the chest, and you will have Thelzar’s map piece! Congratulations!

Lozar’s Map Piece

We’ve saved the easiest for last! Lozar’s Map Piece requires you simply to have 10,000gp if you don’t have level-31 Magic or higher. Alternatively, if you have level-33 Magic or higher, you’ll need one law rune and one air rune. If you magic level is 31 or 32, bring a Wizard’s Mind Bomb to help boost your magic level. If you are not paying the 10,000gp, items for magic or ranged attacks are needed. Once you have all the required items, head to the Port Sarim jail. Following the map below will bring you there.

Once you get there, go to the third cell south and you will see Wormbrain.

If you have brought magic or range attack and your telekinetic grab runes (with a wizards’ mind bomb if your magic level is 31 or 32), start shooting your spells or arrows at Wormbrain until he is dead. Once he is finished off, cast your telekinetic grab spell then click on the map piece. Congratulations!

If you have brought 10,000gp, simply talk to Wormbrain and buy the map piece for a hefty price of 10,000 coins! Congratulations!

The Boat

Now that you’ve retrieved all of the Crandor map pieces, you need a boat to get to the Island! You need to go back to the Guildmaster. He is in the Champions’ Guild, where you started this quest. Klarense in Port Sarim (where you found Wormbrain) is the answer to your prayers. Follow the map below and Klarense is in the yellow circle.

Talk to him about buying the boat, and he will put a 2,000gp price tag on the boat.

Accept, and the boat is yours! Climb aboard the boat and go below deck and you will see a big hole. It needs to be fixed. To fix the hole you need the following items:

3 planks - planks can be found in the Graveyard of Shadows, which is in level-19 wilderness. They can also be obtained by taking a log with some coins to the Sawmill Operator northeast of Varrock, or picked up on Entrana.
90 steel nails - these can be smithed with a steel bar, or bought from other players.
Once you have obtained those items, go back to the boat with them. Use each plank on the hole and the boat will be fixed! Well done! The Lady Lumbridge is now ready to set sail!

Kitting Up and Going to Crandor

If you use the map pieces with each other, they will turn into a Crandor map. For this next part, you’ll need to talk to Ned, who can be found in his house in Draynor Village.

By following the map above you will be able to find Ned. After talking to him, he’ll take your map and will meet you at the Lady Lumbridge.

Now, you need to prepare your equipment for killing the dragon. Here is a detailed list of things you will need to fight Elvarg:

A combat level of at least 40-50.
An inventory similar to this:

Lobsters or swordfish to heal big amounts of damage. The dragon can hit up to 10 damage! A strength potion is optional but will really help you. You could also bring some emergency teleport runes incase something goes wrong.
Equipment similar to this:

The rune armour can be replaced with adamant armour, as can the weapon. An amulet of power and strength will help a lot, too. Bringing a cape will also provide a small, yet precious, defense bonus. Do not forget the anti-dragon shield, or you are as good as dead! Here is a picture of somebody who forgot their shield:

Note: You can use the dragonfire shield (members only) as well.
Once you’re all kitted up, head to Ned at the Lady Lumbridge. Go below the deck and you will set sail for Crandor! Unfortunately, the dragon will attack the boat with fire breath and kill Cabin Boy Jenkins!

You will be forced to run away, and will wash up on Crandor. Ned appears to be missing, too!

Now, make your way to the cave entrance by following the map below.

Note: If you have fixed the boat and crashed it, you can use the shortcut wall under the Karamja Volcano. It is a much faster way to get to the dragon again if you die.

Once you’ve headed down into the volcano, go southeast for a while until you see a wall.

Now is the time to take a dose of strength potion, if you have one. Wield your anti dragon shield and activate prayers, such as ultimate strength and protection from melee or magic. The dragon uses a mixture of both. Once you’re ready, head into the area and start attacking Elvarg. Don’t let your hitpoints get too low!

After a long battle, Elvarg will hopefully be defeated. If it’s the latter, you will cut off the dragon’s head. You’ll need to find your way back to Oziach, and after talking to him, congratulations, quest complete!

18,650 experience in Strength and Defense.
Ability to wear a rune platemail and dragon leatherbody once you reach the requirements (40 defense for platemail, 40 ranged and defense for the leatherbody).
2 Quest Points
Rune Platemail

Upon completion of the quest, you will have the ability to buy and wield the rune platemail. You can buy it cheap from players or expensive from Oziach for 84,500gp! As you can see, the platemail’s stats are quite impressive!

Green Dragonhide Body

As well as the rune platemail, the green dragonhide body can be worn upon completion of this adventure. As the stats below clearly state, dragonhide provides excellent magic protection. You can buy a green dragonhide body from Oziach, or from another player.

King of the Dwarves

Posted by: cow  //  Category: runescape news

“No band of petty councillors can preserve this city through its darkest days — only a king.”

Those are the words of the Azdaran Fragment, the oldest surviving document in the history of Keldagrim. Keldagrim’s Age of Kings came to an end centuries ago, and even the last king’s statue now bears the face of one of Keldagrim’s current rulers, the Consortium of Mining Companies. But there are still those who would see a return to the Age of Kings — and even more who simply want the Consortium removed from power, without regard for what would come afterwards.

Is the Azdaran Fragment simply a statement of its writers’ beliefs, or will it prove to be a grim prophecy? Facing unrest within the city and enemies outside it, can the Consortium cling to power — and if not, what will replace it? Join Veldaban and new allies as you attempt to answer a long-ignored question: who is the King of the Dwarves?

Posted by: runescape  //  Category: Holiday Guides

This month we welcome a few new faces to RuneScape’s “who’s who” list in the form of giant Slayer beasts. These avatars just happen to be the main focus of our new safe, conflict minigame…Soul Wars! We will also be waving goodbye to a few of our old random events, adding a new feature that will let you sort your quests, building price-checking inventory options for your items, and adding a new distraction and diversion (whose bark is far worse than his bite).

Soul Wars

On the deepest, darkest, most mysterious of our backwater islands, an eternal struggle rages, unknown to the residents of RuneScape until now. Structured much like Castle Wars, this will be a “quick to access, tough to master” conflict-based minigame. The avatars of Destruction and Creation vie for control of the Soul Obelisk, an ancient and powerful artefact used to harvest the souls of the weak and unready. Get ready to grab your blade, staff or bow and battle through Slayer creatures, collecting fragments of their souls to feed to the ever-hungry obelisk. Rewards include combat XP while playing the game, Pest Control-style XP rewards and a few new pets for you to lead.

Random event update

Over the last year we’ve been very keen to make changes to RuneScape’s system of random events. After all, no one likes being forced through a long dialogue with a desperate doctor or an over-enthusiastic security guard while they’re surrounded by aggressive monsters.

The most obvious change in the update will be to the rewards. At the end of most random events, you’ll be handed a random event gift box. When you open the box, you’ll get the chance to choose a reward from a selection of items including coins, runes, ore, seeds, charms and perhaps even a genie lamp. If the random event previously offered emotes or costumes, you’ll be able to choose those from the random event gift box’s menu. So whatever kind of reward you want, there should be something in there for you.

We’re also making a major change to the rate at which random events appear, basing it on your skill total and your record of successfully passing random events. So, if you correctly solve every event you encounter, you’ll experience fewer events in the future. On a related topic, the game will remember which random events you get, so it can aim to give you a greater variety of events, rather than always giving you the same random events over and over again.

Some random events will be removed from the game. Poison-gas chests, smoking rocks, broken pickaxes and ents will become things of the past. The Drunken Dwarf will be retired as a random event, but he’ll still be free to roam the world, handing out kebabs to his mateys. You’ll still be able to obtain shade robes, strange fruit and security books; we do not intend to discontinue any existing rewards.

Other improvements include allowing you to have more than one set of costumes, giving value to old frog tokens (so don’t throw them away!), stopping run energy from draining in the maze and even giving the Sandwich Lady her own café!

Price check

Ever found yourself at the bottom of a lonely, dark, depressing dungeon, with only the sound of your Summoning beast to keep you company, when suddenly out of the bleakness come the infamous words ”price check plz”?. Quite often you’ll want to know how much something is worth, even if you are holding back the forces of darkness at the same time. Because of this often-heard request, we have decided to add it as a permanent feature. So you’ll be able to click on a button beneath your worn items to open a new price-check interface, into which you’ll be able to place objects from your inventory (including stacks) to see their trade value.

Quest list interface

This month we will also be adding a new filtering option to the quest list in game. This means that you will be able to filter out all the quests you don’t yet have the level to do, or filter the list so it displays all your completed quests last – to name just a few options.

Evil Tree

Also this month we will be bringing you a new distraction and diversion affectionately known as the Evil Tree. This twice-a-day event will focus on providing an alternative to your Woodcutting, Firemaking and Farming training. During this event, a small, innocent leprechaun will be appearing in a variety of locations, using his magical divining rod to try to discover the whereabouts of an exciting new species of plant. He knows that the plant grows into a tree at an alarmingly fast rate, and that budding farmers will be able to use their skills to coax it out even faster; but Farming’s not the only skill you will be using…since this tree is EVIL!

Well, perhaps for us that twist wasn’t so surprising (the name kind of gives it away) but for anyone who hasn’t read this it will be quite a shock to see the innocent, naive sapling turn into a menacing and malevolent fiend! Prepare to grab your tinderboxes and axes (the leprechaun has spares), and go toe-to-branch with this new challenge. Evil trees will come with similar level requirements to their less evil counterparts, and will range from normal, simple trees all the way up to elder trees…evil elder trees, of course. Rewards include generous XP in the aforementioned skills, and access to some unique services to complement your Woodcutting training.

Future Content
Mobilising Armies

Work continues on this tactical minigame, and we’ve been busily adding new features and continuously developing the game engine to support this new content. Recent additions include:

Altering the effect that different races of troops can have on your rewards.
Changing the way in which catapults are loaded.
Improving the way in which the camera moves around the battlefield.
Improving the on-screen information so you know what all of your troops are doing.
Updating the tutorial to be more interactive and straightforward.
Changing one of the scenarios to feature TzHaar.
As we have said before, this minigame is different from anything ever seen before in RuneScape. The more we test and play through the content, the more features we know we need to add to make the game work the way we want it to. This means that we’ve not been able to launch it as early in the year as we had initially hoped, but we will give you more news as soon as it is available.

Runescape Runecrafting Guide

Posted by: amber  //  Category: Runescape Guide

Runecrafting is an interesting and fun skill to practice in RuneScape, as there are many different kinds of Runes to make, and several parts to making them using this skill. Often times, you will not be standing in the same spot for a long time, so the skill moves along quickly and you can get a great deal of Runes crafted in a short time.

Before you can start crafting your own Runes, you need to mine some Rune Essence from the Essence Mine. Of course, not just anyone can find this mine, and only several characters in RuneScape can teleport you to it:

Aubury - Located in the Varrock Magic Shop.
Wizard Sedridor - Located in the Basement of the Wizard Tower.
Wizard Distentor - Found in the Yanille Magic Guild.
Wizard Cromperty - Located just northeast of the Ardougne Market.
Brimstail Gnome - Found in a cave in the southwest corner of the Tree Gnome Stronghold.
Once you’re in the mine, just mine some Essence from any Rune Essence rock. You will either get Pure Essence or Normal Essence. These different Essence will be explained later on. After using the nearby portal you will be teleported to the character you spoke before.

You will also need a Talisman, depending on the type of Rune you wish to make. You need to use the correct Talisman with the ruins around RuneScape to be teleported to an Altar to craft your Runes. Check the Talisman and Altar Charts below for more info.

Runecrafting Pouches

After completing the Zamorak Mage’s Runecrafting task, Members will have the ability to obtain Pouches for carrying Rune Essence. There are 4 different sized pouches, each able to hold a certain amount of Rune Essence, but you can only carry 1 of each pouch at a time. The different sized pouches are sometimes found from the loot of the Abyssal Creatures in the Abyss, including Abyssal Leeches (L 41), Guardians (L 59)and Walkers (L 81).

Pouches

Small 1 3
Medium 25 6
Large 50 9
Giant 75 12

Kinds of Rune Essence

As said before, there are two types of Rune Essence in RuneScape: Regular Essence, and Pure Essence.

Regular Rune Essence can be used to Runecraft all of the FreePlay Runes, including Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Mind and Body. Member Runes such as Nature or Law Runes can’t be crafted using this kind of essence.

You will always mine Regular Essence if you are a FreePlayer, or if you’re a member with less than level 30 Mining.

Pure Rune Essence is used to craft all types of Runes, and can only be mined by Members who have level 30 Mining or better.

——————————————————————————–

Talismans

Once you have some Rune Essence, you’re going to need a Talisman so that you can enter the Altar of the Rune you wish to make. Many of them are dropped by enemies around RuneScape, and after you have the one you need, bring it to the ruins of that specific Rune (If you have an Air Talisman, bring it to the ruins of the Air Altar) and use it with the “Mysterious Ruins” to be teleported to the actual Altar.

Tiaras

A Runecrafting Tiara is mostly the same as a Talisman, except for the fact that you can wear it on your head rather than carry it in your backpack. This way, you can save 1 extra space per trip for Rune Essence, which is very helpful for high level Runes. Check out the Crafting guide for info about making Tiaras.

Once you’ve crafted a regular Tiara, it’s time to enchant it. Bring the Tiara to the Runecrafting Altar of your choice, along with the same kind of Talisman. Use the Tiara on the Altar to bind the Talisman and Tiara together to make an enchanted Tiara. This will cause you to lose your Talisman, but it’s very useful in making higher level Runes since you don’t need to use it with the altar to access it (thus saving a space in your inventory).

Runecrafting Altars

Now that you have both your Rune Essence and a Talisman for the kind of Rune you want to make, you need to find the Altar to which the Talisman belongs to. You can choose the “Locate Altar” option for the Talisman itself and be pointed in the correct direction, or follow the directions and look at the maps in the below chart.

Anyhow, just use your Talisman with the “Mysterious Ruins” to be brought to the Altar. To make the Runes, just select the “Rune-Craft Altar” option from the Altar itself to craft all of the Essence in your backpack into Runes.

Tip: You can mouse-over any of the “mini-maps” below to see an enlarged picture of the altar’s location!

Crafting Runes

When you first start Runecrafting, you will only be able to make 1 of each rune per Essence. Upon reaching a certain Runecrafting level, you’ll have the ability to make multiple Runes from a single Essence, since you’ll have more control and skill over crafting them. You will always receive the same amount of experience from crafting each kind of Rune, regardless of the number you make.

Combination Runes

Combination Runes are a newer addition to Runecrafting for Members, and they are very useful to Wilderness Player-Killing. The basic idea is that you can combine 2 Elemental Runes together to make a single Rune. This newly-formed Rune counts as 2 different elements, such as both Water and Air. Only Elemental Runes such as Air, Water, Earth and Fire can be combined. You can create the following Runes:

Mist - Air & Water
Dust - Air & Earth
Mud - Water & Earth
Smoke - Air & Fire
Steam - Water & Fire
Lava - Earth & Fire
Combining Runes

In order to combine Runes, you’ll need a few things including 1 of each Talisman, 1 type of Rune, and Rune Essence. So, if you wanted to make Mist Runes, bring an Air and a Water Talisman, either Air or Water Runes (whichever you wish to use), and Rune Essence. Depending on which Runes you choose to bring along, go to the other Temple (if you’re making Mist Runes and bringing Air Runes, go to the Water Temple).

Enter the temple using the correct Talisman as usual, and then use the other Talisman on the Altar to combine the Runes.

Warning: The Talisman that is the same as the Runes you carry will be used up when combining them! Plan on losing 1 Talisman each time you combine Runes, so it would be wise to bring Runes who’s Talismans you have more of.

Necklace of Binding

The Necklace of Binding will give you a 100% success rate while combining Runes while worn. It can be obtained by enchanting an Emerald Necklace using the Enchant Level 2 Jewelry spell.

Runescape Money making guide 2010

Posted by: cow  //  Category: Uncategorized

There are in fact a lot of ways to make money on Runescape as a F2P account, but many of them are time-consuming to be able to start doing, below I’ve listed skills and tactics to be able to make runescape money.

Combat

Fighting high level enemies means you can get high value drop, my personal favourite is the cockroach soldier in the stronghold of security, but I recommend being around level 70 with food. Cockroach soldiers drop quite a few rune items which are worth a fair amount, e.g. Rune scimitars which sell for around 35k on the Grand Exchange.

Other good enemies to kill are Lesser Demons (Found on Karamja), which occasionally drop Rune med helms which give around 10k with high alchemy,  Ankou (Found in stronghold of security) and Greater Demons (Found in deep wilderness). Another weaker alternative is to kill Hill Giants, which always drops big bones which can be collected and sold for quite a lot of money.

I would highly recommend Cockroach Soldiers though but you need to be a high level to kill them.

Mining

This is a very profitable skill, especially when you reach coal or better yet, level 60 mining which allows you entry to the mining guild which also has 5 mithril ore deposits which can also be mined for profit. This becomes even more profitable after reaching adamantite ore and it sky-rockets once you reach runite ore which sells for around 12k each. Sadly the only place to mine runite ore is deep into the wilderness and there is only one rock, so many miners world hop because it takes a long time to respawn.

Smithing

This is profitable at most levels as long as you’ve mined the ores yourself, otherwise at low levels isn’t very profitable. At higher levels it becomes much more profitable and again, reaching rune will definitely help you as many items are still in heavy demand.

A good tactic I’ve been using lately to make upwards of 200k an hour is to buy nature runes, mithril and coal ores on the Grand Exchange and with a fire staff, use superheat item (requires magic level 43) and make mithril bars, this provides an easy profit whilst also gaining you both smithing and magic experience.

Fishing

I personally find it very hard to make a profit whilst fishing but it is easily achievable by selling lobsters (cooked or raw) and swordfish (again cooked or raw), this is rather time consuming but is best done on Karamja. Personally I sell them raw as it saves time and reduces the risk of burning a fish and therefore not being able

to sell it.

Cooking

A good method for this is to get level 55 cooking and buying plain pizzas and anchovies off the grand exchange and then using them to make anchovy pizzas which sell to make an easy profit on the grand exchange. This is a fast method to make money without having to do much at all.

If you need to get your cooking level up, a good method is to buy raw trout in bulk from the grand exchange, and then cook them to get cooking experience, when you sell them back you make a very small loss, around 1-2 gold for each trout but this money is made back easily by making anchovy pizzas.

Magic

(Look at smelting for tips on how to use superheat item for profit.)

Another method is to use telekinetic grab (telegrab) (which requires magic level 33) on the Wine of Zamorak found north of Falador, the best way to do this is with a staff of air and 28 law runes, when you have 27 wines, drop one and use telegrab then you should have no law runes and should be able to pick up the one you dropped on the floor.

To level magic quickly, get rune essence (either buy it or mine it) and login to world 16 and go to the air altar and find someone to assist you who can do 6x air runes (the higher the better), buy a fire staff and collect mind runes from Lumbridge castle and finally auto-cast fire strike on the lesser demon in the Mage Tower for easy experience.

Runecrafting

This only becomes profitable after level 44 when you can get 5x air runes, buy (or mine) rune essence and take it to the Grand Exchange, then just make continuous runs from Varrock West Bank to the air altar and get a lot of air runes and sell them back on the Grand Exchange.

If you don’t want to spend so long on getting a high runecrafting, then be a runner instead, go on to world 16 and go to the air altar and find someone to assist you who can do 6x air runes (the higher the better) and simply sell the air runes.

Woodcutting

Train until you can cut down yew logs, this takes a long time but can yield high profits, so stick with it as it is usually worth it – that’s all there is to woodcutting really.

Other Tips

When buying and selling, make sure you log how much you buy and for what prices. It’s very easy to make a loss when you’re not watching prices properly and it can be very hard to make back the money you lose.

Always look for a bargain, if someone offers you a good trade, take it and then sell the item for its normal price, it’s easy to tell if you are getting a good deal by looking at the wealth meter during trades or by looking at an items grand exchange price.

110,000
Level 1(30) Mining rune/pure essence
You can mine rune essence at level 1 mining or pure essence at level 30 mining and sell it for around 94 coins each for rune essence or 136 for pure essence (sometimes you need to drop the price a little bit to get it to sell in the Grand Exchange). Essences mine quickly; it usually takes less than a minute to fill an inventory, and then another minute or so is needed to get the mined essence to a bank and return to the mine for another load. For fast banking it is recommended that you use Aubury in Varrock to get to the essence mines and deposit each load of runes in the bank which is just north of his shop. Members with 66 Magic can instead go to Wizard Distentor at the Wizards’ Guild in Yanille, which is closer to a bank.

*****
73,000
Level 1 Mining clay
In the West Varrock Mine, in the Dwarven Mine, or near the Crafting Guild, you can mine clay, which sells for 163 coins each. You can wear a bracelet of clay, which automatically converts mined clay into soft clay. Soft clay sells for 301 coins each.
  • Level 6 Mugger in the mine south-west of Varrock
  • King Scorpions if you enter the Dwarven Mine from the Falador entrance
  • If a player with a higher mining level is also mining the clay, you may not be able to get any
Crafting level of 40 to enter the Crafting Guild
*****
34,000
Level 20 Mining silver
Silver ore sells for 308 coins each, and is found in accessible locations. The best is the West Varrock Mine due to its proximity to a bank, but the Al Kharid mine is also available. Unfortunately, silver ore rocks only respawn every 2 minutes, which means a lot of time standing around waiting for the ore to become available for mining, which greatly reduces the profit per hour.
  • If a player with a higher mining level is also mining the silver ore, you may not be able to get any
  • Level 14 scorpions in the Al Kharid mine
  • Level 6 mugger in the West Varrock Mine

*****
48,000
Level 20 Mining silver (crafting guild)
There are twice as many silver rocks at the crafting guild as at the West Varrock Mine or Al Kharid mine, meaning the mining goes quicker, but its distance from a bank means the final profit is reduced.
  • If a player with a higher mining level is also mining the silver ore, you may not be able to get any
Crafting level 40
*****
43,000
Level 30 Mining coal
At this level you can mine coal and sell it for 266 coins each. Players can use the coal trucks west of Seers’ Village for more efficient mining. At the coal trucks your profit is about 108k an hour assuming you get a single coal ore in 5 seconds and later on sell the coal for 180gp a piece. The Seer’s headbands will increase the amount Stankers will allow in the coal trucks.
  • If a player with a higher mining level is also mining the coal, you may not be able to get any
Seer’s headband 1-3(optional)
*****
18,000
Level 40 Mining gold
You can mine gold ore in the Dwarven Mines, the Rimmington Mine, or in the Al-Kharid mine (each mine has 2 gold rocks). Gold ore sells for 319 coins each. However, this method is not very effective because of the slow respawn rate of gold (approx. 2 minutes). The player can also mine at the Arzinian Mine which has one-hundred and forty-six rocks. A nearby Dwarven boatman, east of the mine entrance, banks the player’s gold ore for a charge of 20% of the gold ores, rounded up. You can also mine at northwest Karamja near Brimhaven, Tzhaar City, and the mine under the Grand Tree (Grand Tree quest required). If you have completed the Forgiveness of a Chaos Dwarf quest, you can mine gold at the North Keldagrim mining area.
  • If a player with a higher mining level is also mining the gold, you may not be able to get any
  • Level 14 scorpions in the Al Kharid mine
  • King Scorpions in the Dwarven Mine
*Gold helmet

  • Ring of charos(a)

*****
29,000
Level 40 Mining gold (Karamja/Crandor)
Although Crandor island and the Karamja volcano would seem to be a good location for members as you can go through to tzhaar city and bank there.

  • If a player with a higher mining level is also mining the gold, you may not be able to get any
90 gold (for the boat); must have reached Crandor island on the Dragon slayer quest.
***** Level 40 Mining Gems (Shilo Village)
This is a very crowded place but you can still make a lot of money. You can get very bad gems like uncut opals, and you can get things like uncut emeralds, rubies, and diamonds which go for about 5k, 7k and 15k respectively. You can get about 200k-400k depending on your luck.
***** Level 55 Mining mithril
Mithril ore sells for 316 coins each, but supply is very limited for non-members. The Mining Guild contains 5 mithril rocks (but requires 60 Mining), and mining from mithril rocks in the Wilderness or Lumbridge Swamp is also possible. There are 3 mithril rocks at the Al Kharid mining area, and there is also mithril on Crandor, although the distance and the presence of aggressive monsters does not make it a convenient place to mine.

***** Level 60 Mining coal (Mining Guild)
Once you can enter the Mining Guild, coal mining speeds up noticeably as there are many coal rocks inside the Guild and the Guild is very close to the eastern bank in Falador.
***** Level 70 Mining adamantite
Adamantite ore sells for 1,131 each and can be found in the Hobgoblin Mine (level 34-37 Wilderness), the west Lumbridge Swamp mines, Crandor, or the Grand Tree mine (members). If you mine in the Wilderness mine, also note that it is a common place at which to find revenants. Do not pass through the Bandit Camp on your way to or from the mine. At First this seems very profitable but with the amount of time to switch worlds or waiting for the ore to re spawn it greatly decreases in profit per hour.Members who have started “The Fremmnik Isles” quest can mine the 11 rocks in the Jatizso mine. These mines are never taken, and can be freely mined on populated worlds without ever catching up to yourself. (tested with lvl 70 mining and a dragon pick on world 2)Also this mine is close to a bankMoney/ore amount scale:

  • 15 Adamantite ore= 16965 coins.
  • 28 Adamantite ore= 31668 coins.
  • 50 Adamantite ore= 56550 coins.
***** Level 77 Concentrated Coal
Coal ore may not be worth much, but you can mine a huge amount of it at the Living Rock Caverns. Refer to below (concentrated gold) for more information (besides money made). This ore is a logical precursor to concentrated gold. Mining it is slightly worse than granite for xp/hour, but you don’t have to drop it, so you make money.
***** Level 80 Concentrated gold
Gold ore may not be worth much, but you can mine a huge amount of it at the Living Rock Caverns. You can make anywhere from 100-200k per hour depending on if you’re using a rune or dragon pickaxe, and if you’re using a summon or not. World 84 has a network of players mining, fishing, and killing rock monsters, so you’re less likely to die there. The experience is also on-par with granite, so this is a great place for xp, cash, or smithing/crafting materials.
Very dangerous for low level players, level 120, 140 and 200 monsters are here
***** Level 85 Mining runite
Runite ore is the most expensive ore in the game, at 17,100 coins each. It is only found in a few locations, including a few rocks in deep Wilderness. This is the only runite location available to free players. The amount of time it takes runite to respawn is dependent on world population; it will spawn quicker on more-populated worlds. Most players who mine runite tend to switch worlds rather than wait for the ore to respawn. Again this is the same as with Adamantite ore. The amount of time world hopping and waiting decreases the profit per hour.Money/ore amount scale:

  • 15 Runite ore= 256500 coins.
  • 28 Runite ore= 478800 coins.
  • 50 Runite ore= 855000 coins.

Effectiveness Level required Details Other Requirements
***** Level 4+ Buy 10 opal bolts off the ge for 14 each, a cosmic rune for 87 (you will only need 1 cosmic rune for every 10 bolts enchanted) and a staff of air for 893. The higher your mage level, the better bolts you can enchant and in turn making more profit.
***** Level 7 Buy sapphire necklaces for 3,756 coins, cosmic runes for 87 coins each, and a water staff, which costs 839 coins. Enchant the sapphire necklaces and sell them for 3,937 coins, pocketing the difference. This is much more effective if you start out with a bit of cash. Non-members can do the same with Sapphire amulets, making Amulets of Magic. However, this will make less profit.
***** Level 25-58+ Teletabs can be made and sold for both magic experience and profit, provided you have access to a lectern. You can visit a friend’s lectern also. A dedicated world for house parties is currently World 31. The different teletabs you can make depends on your Magic level and the type of lectern you use. Assuming all materials are purchased (including runes and soft clay), each teletab gives the following profit: Varrock Teleport (372 coins), Lumbridge Teleport (432 coins) Falador Teleport (415 coins), Camelot Teleport which is the best way to make money with theis methode (262 coins), Ardougne Teleport (229 coins), and House Teleport (586 coins). Level 77+ Casting Superglass Make can be very profitable. Each cast converts all pairs of buckets of sand and seaweed in your inventory to approximately 1.33 molten glass per set. Each cast uses 2 astral runes, 10 air runes and 6 fire runes. The most efficient inventory is to use an air rune-supplying staff and have astral and fire runes in your inventory, along with 13 buckets of sand and 13 seaweed. You can complete upwards of 200 casts per hour this way.If you follow the alternate method here, you can roughly double the amount of casts per hour.Note: The amount of glass obtained per inventory can vary significantly (between 13 (a 1:1 ratio) and 22 (a 1:1.7 ratio)), so be aware as your profit may vary. Requires Lunar Diplomacy.
